Not as good as I thought it would be. I hope Sega makes improvements on the next mini console they make.

I have other retro units and this is my least favorite. The wireless controllers are not responsive and it is lacking many classic games.

Controller stopped working after 5 min. I switched them out and the second one quit after 2-3 min. Picture quality is horrible. Wish that I could give half of a star.

This console is good for who want to relive the 90s or want to share the 90s with their children. For retro gamers have a real genesis ready in case you want to play sonic 3. There is slightly more clarity than on the original genesis. Best to buy original genesis controllers as the wireless ones are too laggy. Overall a good console christmas present for people who don't want to break their bank. Bonus games are useless and could easily be left out.

It's a terrible product. The controllers are suceptible to constant interference, meaning dropped signals and laggy input...why they run on the same 2.4Ghz band as pretty much every wireless router out there is beyond me. If you are close to your neighbors, no amount of router channel-hopping will save you.
The cartridge slot reads games about 50% of the time, and of the 50% where the game ROM is loaded to the console, it plays 50% of the time and you get a black screen the other 50% of the time...so your odds of loading a clean game in good condition are about 1 in 4.
On top of the bad controllers and bad cartridge slot, this unit features bad emulation. If the SEGA Genesis was anything, it was smooth...smooth graphics, smooth gameplay, and of course, no loading. This system plays all games at about 75% the normal frame rate, meaning everything is choppy, and, combined with input lag, make most games unplayable. Trying to hold a button and input a diagonal direction (which activates 2 contact pads inside the controller) equals 3 simultaneous button presses...which the emulator and controller cannot handle. It makes games like Quackshot and Rocket Knight Adventures utterly unplayable. Sonic 3 is not supported in any form.
It's the usual trash from AtGames and its going back to the store on Monday.
Spend five bucks on a Pi Zero, grab ROMs for the games you already own, get a Sega Saturn USB controller and microSD card online, and you will have a great HD Genesis machine that runs right on a big screen tv.

I've got the same Genesis from back when I was a kid, I still play it off and on but having a HDMI solution to playing my old cartridges would be great.
Firstly the system does this alright, @games isn't known for quality when it comes to sound or it's TV based consoles. The sounds are always awful and while they're not accurate in the game's I've played they're better than they used to be.
The games are emulated, the console copies the cartridge and loads it into memory and it takes a short bit to do that. The included games are good ....well the ones that are ACTUALLY oldschool Sega Genesis games. There's some weird shovelware in this that ..yeah, not impressed. It's padding numbers to boast on the box when they should just stick to GOOD games vs piling garbage into old school gold.
The build quality of the unit ...is kind of lacking. It just feels cheap. Considering the price I'd hoped for more. It just doesn't feel like it's going to last.
This extends to the controllers...Yes, while you can use your own/buy other Genesis controllers. The ones included just, do not feel good. Compared to the old ones or just in general. They don't seem responsive at times. They don't feel like they'll last. So if you do buy this, just know you'll probably have to shop around for some replacements as these things are not good.
This isn't retro-snobbery, the controllers genuinely are laggy, wonky and bad.
I wish I could recommend this, TVs are ditching analog inputs so it's getting harder and harder to get the old consoles on TVs easily. This would have been a good solution ...if it was worth it, but I don't think it is sadly.

Considering that this system is running a version of Android OS, it is matter of time that it will eventually be unlocked (we may be able to add games later). Once that happens, a better emulator could be installed.

I had high hopes for this system, even after it's delay. But when I got it in the mail my excitement soon went to disappointment.
Pros: can be used to play old cartridge games. 85 games, but about 10 good ones.
Cons: flimsy unit. Awkward remotes that are wireless but no way to charge them. Batteries are mandatory. And it used this DC plug instead of what OTHER mini retro units use, usb, to power.
Overall, it's great they came out with yet another retro Sega callback unit, upset I cannot stage them next to my other mini retro units for it cannot compare. Hopefully next time they can get it right.

This is AtGames latest attempt to ride the wave of nostalgia that Nintendo's Mini series has done so well.
There are several new improvements this go around, namely new wireless controllers (The old ones relied on IR, seriously?) and actual HDMI support.
That said, most of the issues are still here. The controllers are cheap, from it's overall feel to how the buttons press (several times the buttons stuck, right out of the box). Sometimes button presses simply don't register at all.
And worst of all is the sound. Every game in this collection sounds far worse than it's original hardware counterpart, off-key and out of tune. Some sounds, especially higher pitched tunes, are now full-on screeches. Sonic's Green Hill Zone has never sounded so terrible.
If you're looking for an old-school fix, I suggest looking anywhere else than this.
