This movie gives those of us who did not live through this period a real glimpse of history. I think the actor's did well and the story line was great.

A handsomely made film about the right to vote

"Selma" explores the racially turbulent years 1964-1965 as black people stood up for their right to vote. The systematic persecution and injustice of black people was going unanswered and this was largely due to black people being deliberately kept out of the democratic process. In this dramatization of MLK and company, the film explores the tactics used by the civil rights leader and his associates to peacefully fight for their right to vote. The film also serves as a dark mirror in 21st century America, that while great strides have been made in the struggle for justice and equality for people of color, the resisters of equality for all are still ever present today to voice their innate superiority beliefs. As an avid lover of films depicting the struggle of black people in America, I highly recommend you add this film to your collection.

This movie is a history lesson that everyone needs to remember. Every scene was so true and very sad. It brought back the memories I lived through for the time period. And not much different than what is happening in south today.

I'll sum up this review on this note after watching this phenomenal, incredibly well directed and produced art form. Kudos to the All Star Cast, Director and Producers! I was moved, touch and overrun with emotion to confirm what I know already about why authoritative abuse is still evident and wide spread in modern day society, with no end in site! My hope is that this movie will break the frozen mentality of those who say, "things are so much better and there is no need to change anything". I strongly encourage everyone from all ethnicities to watch this movie and maybe then society will become more focus and less tolerant of acceptance. Maybe this excellent movie will serve as a precursor to invoke change! Another good buy from Best Buy!

My GOD, this it a great great great movie that's based on the true events. I'm from Atlanta and I absolutely know that this is a very honest telling of many truths during this time. I'm not much for civil rights type films, even stay away for the most part. But this film at it heart is very true to events. Also it tells of Malcolm X, David Abernathy, Hosa Willams and others. A great movie.

Selma touched my heart. Some of the actions in the film took me by surprise and made me cry. I went through several emotions while watching Selma, parts of the film were upsetting, heartwarming, uplifting, and thought provoking. Selma is a must see film, especially for those who want to know more about and understand the Civil Rights movement.

Great historical drama of black citizen’s struggle/fight to register and vote unencumbered. I saw this movie in the theater and purchased the blue-ray copy for my media library. I would have like to have seen more of the original footage included in the film. The music is inspiring, I also purchased the CD. Should be viewed with family followed by a discussion on the importance of voting.

Thisnis an incredible story they should have been made a long time ago. Seeing as how Martin Luther King is my favorite historical figure, it was interesting to see another story of his being told on the screen. David oleywelo is fantastic as Martin Luther King and I would love to see him in a proper biopic on the man who died for the civil rights of black people.

Selma is an excellent movie for all to see. It is history and I think everyone should see this movie. It brought tears to my eyes and a lot of unpleasant memories, but, it is part of history. I have to grandchildren and this is history they needed to know about. My oldest granddaughter understood a lot more than I thought she would. She asked a lot of questions.

This movie is based on the true story of Selma, a historic march that forever changed the rights of African Americans. The movie is graphic at times, and painful to watch, but something that should be watched with the entire family, as to help bring discussions about different ethnic races. In my personal opinion, it should have received an Oscar for best picture.

Saw this movie in the theaters and knew immediately that I had to own it. A powerful look into a historical event that still resonates today. Watching this movie is a great way to teach our young people the struggles and sacrifices made by our elders and shows a pathway, though not easy, that we still must follow to achieve a better world.

An excellent view, especially for those that are not familiar with this aspect of the Civil Rights Movement. Remember it's a Hollywood movie and some information may be questionable, but this should inspire one to research further not only the events around Selma, but the prominent characters involved in this important movement.

This movie well represented what Martin Luther King went through in championing equal rights to vote for African Americans during the 1960s. It was good from the beginning until the end. You will not be disappointed with the actors who portrayed MLK, Coretta Scott King and John Lewis and the direction from Ms. Ava Duvernay!

I originally saw this in the movie theaters last year and was brought to tears. It only made it natural that I would purchase this for my collection because it is definitely a collector's item. It moves you and gives you a great look into the events leading up to Bloody Sunday. It should have won an Oscar for best film.

At first I thought this was going to be another watered down Black history film like Lee Daniel's The Butler or The Help. It portrayed rawness that I safely assumed Hollywood was moving to shy away from. This is a film that transcends African-American Rights - this is about humanity as a whole. Excellent movie!

I did not have a chance to catch this in the theater when it came out. Instead of renting, I felt the need to buy it. When I got to Best Buy it appeared that it was sold out. Staff workers helped me to find it. One of the best purchases ever.

Based on an era in history that we still struggle with, this movie allows the younger generation to see what it was like for their parents and grandparents went through. Great for everyone to see that we are.all human, we all have failures, but we can still rise above them and treat each other with respect.
