I own an embarrassing number of headphones priced from $20.00 to $700.00. Among them are Grado RS1i's, Beyerdynamic T90's, Hifiman HE 400i's, AKG Q 701's, Philips X2's, Sennheiser 598's,600's, 650's, Audio Tecnica MSR 7's, Bang and Olufsen H6's and Bowers and Wilkens P7's. While I love the sound of all of those mid fi cans and thought you couldn't do much better than those for sound quality. Well man was I wrong. The 700'sound when matched with a nice amp are much better. They have a huge soundstage with great width and depth. Details are fantastic with great decay. Instrument separation is exceptional. Bass is very much present but accurate and not artificialy boomy. Mid's are flavorful and smooth. High's are outstanding. These headphones are just a must for critical listening. The 700's match up especially well with tube amps.

I collect headphones and own an embarrassing number of headphones and iem's. These Sennheiser's have become a favorite of mine. The sound of these is simply top class. They present a balanced aural arrangement where bass,mid's and high's compliment each other rather than compete against each other. Bass goes deep without bloat or overwhelming the mid's. It is accurate without artificial boominess. Mid's are creamy smooth and lush. High's sing a beautiful song, accurate and detailed. The sound stage on these is huge with width and depth. Instrument separation is exceptional without a hint of congestion. The HD 700's have placed my much loved Grado RS1i's in the second fiddle position due to their larger soundstage. Beyerdynamic T90's compete well with the HD 700's but also can't match the sound stage of the Sennheiser's. They also outperform their kin the HD 650's , HD 600's, HD 598'S and Momentum's with better accuracy, detail and instrument placement. To truly appreciate the performance of these cans you need to listen to high resolution files with a good amp. These cans match especially well with a tube amp.

For the price I paid for these headphones, these are the best deal out there for a non-electrostatic audiophile headphone, Yes, the HD800's are better quality but at less than half the price, the HD700's are an excellent 2nd choice

Comparing with Sennheiser costs money on the package, I am so surprised that the producer even doesn't attach an adapter in the box ! I checked with BestBuy but didn't find any. Finally I spent a week to receive it by ordering from web. The cord is really long long long .... kindly mess in my place ! The quality of sound is very good, but seriously not far from my other Sennheiser headphones or earbuds, generally they are very close. The sound is not that natural for listening classic music. The quality of sound is far better than some other popular brands. But for Sennheiser itself, for the remarkable price ( now it is cheaper by on-sale ), it could be better.

Great audio quality even without a mix amp, and more comfortable than any headset I’ve owned. Doesn’t get ears sweaty or leave your head aching after prolonged use.

First the down side. It is an "open" style headset (the first I have ever owned) and as such, it does not provide the acoustic isolation that I am use to and prefer. Having said that, they are simply AMAZING! The frequency response rivals my main speakers (AR-90s) and was simply blown away. The clarity and presentation is better than every other headset that I have ever tried. A real plus is the long cord length. With every other head set I need one or two extensions, but with this long cord I can work at my desk, go around to my printer, or sit in my easy chair and listen to the music. It is great that someone has the good sense to realize that we will not be sitting within a couple of feet of the amplifier! It is a real joy to listen with this headset. It took me a long time to make up my mind to buy them because of the price (and being "open") but they are worth it and I am very glad that I purchased them - and would do it again if the need arose!

Great quality of sound I’m looking for a head phone. Crisp and clear sound!

It's not my first Senheiser headphones, they go on an on even better. Great and transparent sound.

Hopefully this will be a short review packed with some worthwhile information. Summary: This is my first pair of "high-end" headphones. I have not owned any other Sennheiser products, nor did I have much experience in high end headphones. I do have experience with higher end home audio on the other hand. I spent a lot of time researching this product and noticed some debates about what people think of the HD700. Some people seem to love it, and some seem to hate it. Most recommended trying before buying, but I understand that many people are unable to do so. Hopefully I can clear things up and give a bigger picture to what your are purchasing. What you need: These headphones are rated at 150 Ohms and only come with a 1/4" jack so they are not necessarily meant to be portable. They will need an amplifier, and optionally a DAC (for less noise, and better sound quality). Many people recommended getting a tube amp to help suppress some of the harshness. I have read that mulitbit DACs also can provide a difference in sound for the headphones. Most were described as "meatier, or fuller sound." If you don't plan to spend extra on multibit, then the modi 2/modi 2U will be very good as well. Another thing to note, I decided to use higher quality cables due to better shielding and lower interference with other equipment that I have near my computer. Sound out of the Box: When I first opened them and fired them up they sounded good, not great. The sound seemed a little off in my opinion. It had an amazing sound stage, but seemed that it was lacking bass, and the treble did seem a little harsh. After previously reading about this, I came to almost expect it. They are everything that I expected and more. I would definitely know what to expect when you are looking into them. If you have some patience, then it will be worth the investment. Other things to mention: Comfort is top notch. Very lightweight, premium materials used, and breathable. These are open back headphones, so sound will leak out, and you will hear things around you. Cable is 10' long. No 1/4" to 1/8" adapter in box. Box is also the case for them, good quality with a hinge. Final $.02 Awesome purchase, but if you are starting from scratch, then you need to invest in other equipment to get the most out of these. You may also need to mess around with these for a little bit to get them to sound how you want them to. Overall, I am very happy with them, and plan to use them for many years to come. Would definitely recommend if you are looking to get serious about your audio.

The Sennheiser HD 700 has an absolutely huge sound stage and delivers on the promises of it being in between the Dark HD 650's and Sennheiser's flagship HD 800. The HD 700 has an amazing top end the middle to match, although i did find some issues when watching some movies and particularly listening to jazz. The treble will peak quite high and is sometimes painful if you have the volume to high. The bottom end of these guys is also amazing responding quite accurately and hard although, it will be missing if you do not have proper amplification. Currently i have a Fiio e10 DAC going into my Little Dot 1+, which in my opinion is under powering them. However i have tried them on an O2 and they did generate a larger bottom. Finally about the sound and my favorite part about these headphones is that are supremely detailed and clear (given the right source.) Lastly and my only negative about them is that they have this beautiful, fine silver looking mesh that has been designed to help with air flow so that the transducer isn't affected by turbulence. These parts are extremely fragile and dent very easily. Over all i cannot fault these headphones over a little build quality when they deliver some of the best sound quality i have heard and some what prefer to some of its opponents. (LCD-2, AHD-7100)

I paired this with Apogee Groove USB DAC/amp and the music really stands out. I can hear every bit of instrument/s used. Every music I throw at it, oh my goodness, the sound stage is awesome. My ears simply loves it and super comfortable as well. I think it just awakened my long asleep audiophile ears.
