Best in the Price Range

Sennheiser has a fantastic heritage of great products, however i know, like most German brands, they usually sound great on classical, jazz, light rock, aka very little bass because the music is dominated by mids and highs. To my VERY pleasant surprise, the headphones carry a very good bass response to them without mudding down the mids or crisp highs. These were 70 in-store, which is a terrific value, espec. compared to the 80 Sony's touting the ultimate bass experience, which left me questioning whether or not Sony testers understood bass, but that's a whole different topic. Bottom line, these are fantastic headphones, and are definitely the best in-stores, perhaps with or behind the AE2 or the Dre Series, which are double or triple the price. These are also very very comfortable because they exert very little pressure on the ear, however this is the ONLY fault in them. They exert so little pressure that a perfect seal isn't created which causes a slight musical leak to the surrounding. For $70, these are a fantastic buy, and worth the extra 20 over the trendy skull candy's.

So after 3 years my Sony DJ series headphones broke, and I am not one opposed to change so I looked outside just Sony to other brands and found this pair. Again I reached out to some of my friends in the Music industry and found varying opinions but none of them had a bad thing to say about Sennheiser in general. So with that in mind I set out doing more research and found several others had very good opinions of these headphones.
Sound quality is great, keep in mind these are headphones they are not going to reproduce sound as well as say a studio monitor. They have a very clean sound with a good amount of bass. It's not overpowering in the low frequency range which is good. They are very good at keeping out noise around me while listening to music or gaming.
If I had to pick out one bad thing, the cord is a tad short for my tastes but that should not discourage anyone from these. Overall time will tell if these turn out to be as good as they seem now but I have confidence they will be a great set of headphones and would recommend them to anyone searching for a good set of headphones for gaming/music or basic computing.

Gamer and Drummer.... I love them!

I almost never write reviews because I'm not one to write a lot... but I love these. I use them for gaming because it makes you feel like you are actually in the game and the bass is perfect. I drum with them when because the isolation is so fantastic. I've also taken them on an airplane. My sibling laughed at me because of their size and cord but I couldn't hear the plane noise at all and got lost in my movie (like it should be).
Have recommended them to all my friends.

I am going to write this review the way I like to read reviews - short and sweet and to the point. The price is awesome considering you're getting a great set of headphones made by a great company, they sound awesome (especially when extra power is thrown at them - not just an ipod or mp3 player), they are comfortable (I wear them 5-8 hours straight and could go longer), and they are not going to break from everyday use like some other headphones that cost three times more (cannot believe Dre would put his name on that product).
These headphones will not let you down - if they do, return them.

Theses headphones are great! Nice sound. Not too heavy considering they are circumaural. They cover ears very well. Great sound reduction even though are not noise canceling. I could wear them as my hearing protection at work. Comfortable and I have a huge noggin.

First of all, one person on here has no clue what they're talking about. I got these to mix live sound and to use in the studio. I also use the when listening to my ipod at night. They're some of the most comfortable headphones I've ever worn. There;s a reason why they're one of the most used pair of headphones in Pro Audio. Overall, they are an excellent pair of phones. The only thing I would like is a case or pouch to carry them in. oh well, they're great!

Wonderful sound, deep solid bass. You cannot go wrong with these headphones. They sound loud regardless of what MP3/CD player you use, or any sound source for that matter.
I was surprised when I read they are made in Ireland, not Asia. They take quality seriously with these babies. This impressed me.
What you get with these headphones, is the most bang for your buck bar none! I guarantee they will go head to head with Bose headphones, for 40 bucks less! I doubt very much the Bose compare in the bass arena. The Sennheisers reproduce bass incredibly. You will hear sub Hz levels. NO kidding.
I suppose the only downfall is, you cannot listen to these phones anywhere. Your just going by what you read about them. Rest assured they are excellent sound and quality.

Best headphones for the money

These headphones are incredible. Sound is extremely accurate, and the isolation is amazing. The one problem is they are a little tight. This aids in sound isolation, but makes them a little less comfortable. That being said I can still wear them for hours without difficulty. The cord is probably the best I've had in a pair of headphones. I'm not sure why other sets don't do coiled cords.

Clearly The Best I've Had So Far

The Sennheiser HD280 Pro is one very serious headphone. Everything from the unusually deep accurate bass to the midrange to the treble seems to all be there. For example, there isn't much of that booming bass continually trying to drown out the mids and highs like what happens to some headphones. The coiled cord is much longer than it looks. I found this out while listening to my laptop computer and having to walk around a little. The connector is the now standard 3.5 mm to 6.35 mm convertible type. That makes listening to most devices a non issue. Some may be concerned about the non detachable cord, but that wasn't an issue with me. Concerning their comfort, I found the HD280 a little heavy. But, the headphones very big ear cups fit around the ears - which is what I like. By the way, the ear cups fold flat or upward for easy transport. I wasn't looking for that pleasant surprise. When you get into this price range and go up, there is quite a lot of quality to be had from many headphone makers. The Sennheiser HD280 Pro is one fine example of what can be had for about $100.

These are by far the best headphones I have used for both comfort and sound quality and durability. I have used numerous brands over the years and these beat them all. The clarity is remarkable. When gaming I can hear every footstep, leave crackle. It's a great advantage to have quality headphones when gaming. Music and Movies are exceptionally brilliant. Sennheiser just keeps doing it right.

I bought these to use with a new keybd I purchased so I could practice without disturbing anyone. I had some cheaper phones that I used before with other keyboards and to listen to music on my laptop, but these are MUCH better! Very comfortable over-the-ear, excellent sound with my Yamaha MOX8 keybd, and a nice long, coiled cord.

I've had a pair of these head phones for over 3 yrs. now and they still sound amazing. The highs and lows are very crisp and clear.
The only thing that's happened with mine is the plastic coating around the earpieces are tearing. But to me, that's not that big of a deal. It doesn't affect the sound quality or the level of comfort. It's more of an aesthetic thing than anything else.
Overall, this is a GREAT set of headphones.

A Good Value

General Observations:
- I've read reviews where people say the cord is too short. I disagree.
- The earmuffs do a good job of isolating sound without being noise-cancelling.
- People have complained that the bass is substandard. Again, I disagree. Bass capabilities are not bad.
- As for comfort, everybody's head is different. Mine is kind of large but I can wear these for a few hours without wanting to take them off.
I mostly got them for listening to mp3's and occasionally playing video games, for which, they work great. For my applications, I wasn't ready to break that $300 mark. If you're looking for a decent set of headphones that won't break the bank, then I think you'll be satisfied.

These headphones were everything I hoped they would be when I read the reviews. Very easy to use, comfortable when on for extended periods of time (wore it for about 2 hours and only felt slight uncomfortable feeling), and the sound covers highs and lows quite nicely. I would definitely recommend these to anyone who is interested in a high quality set of headphones but for an average to low price.

I love these headphones! Some minor problems are that the cord is a little too long for my preference and the headphones are a little bulky. I have never gotten a headache or felt that the headphones were too tight.
I listen to a huge variety of music and they all sound great! You cannot go wrong with Sennheiser.

I am a drummer and initially purchased these for sound isolation. In this respect, they work fine. I also have a pair of Shure 535 IEM's and in regards to sound isolation, they're almost as good.
It's when I used these for music enjoyment where things got really ugly for me. :-)
To my ears, these seem to push the bass a wee-bit too much for me. I like my headphones to sound somewhat rich, but neutral - I don't like headphones, or speakers that "color" the sound. These headphones seem to have this OOOM kind of bass tone. Not sure if it's how they're "tuned", or if it's the fact that they're a closed-back design (these are the only closed-back cans I have).
I also do not like the coiled cable, which inevitably ends up getting tangled. I also have a pair of Sennheiser HD590's that I use for music enjoyment which has a straight cable that also disconnects (nice feature).
On the plus side, these phones are really efficient (you don't have to crank your source) - I have used them with a portable MP3 player and a portable DVD player with NO issues.
IMO, these would work fine for a gamer, or movie watchers (who don't want to disturb other people, or for music lovers who want a "fun" headphone (ie lots of bass, etc.). I wouldn't recommend these for audiophiles, or any critical listening, which is ironic, because when I purchased these years ago, I think they were touted as "professional studio/recording" phones.

These headphones by Sennheiser are just amazing for the price, the sound quality is great on all levels all though if you live for bass you may be slightly disappointed. Vocals sound really good, but keep in mind these are monitoring headphones. The coiled cord is really great and it's comfortable and shipping was fast. Although they sound awesome, if you're looking for better headphones sound quality wise you'll have to spend at least twice as much money. But these are the best for the price and Sennheiser really proves how good they can make their products with the HD 280 Pros.
