Love these headphones!
I use them in a studio setup instead of monitors for the time being (I know not ideal but it saved me $$$) They reproduce audio very accurate and bring out the bass that my computer and some computer speakers just cannot.
They are not noise canceling but are designed well enough where as outside noise is not much of an issue.
I also love that if plugged into a source you cannot tell that the headphones are on and working untill audio is played. For example. cheaper headphones sometimes create noise or buzz when plugged inot a source. These have no backround noise or intrusions which make editing and mixing so much better!

Good Sound, Not So Good Build...

I purchased these after much research and can say that Sennheiser hasn't let me down. I put them on and the sound was crisp and impressed me from the beginning. However...my one complaint is the way they fit. They're comfortable and all, but when I glanced into the mirror I realized how ridiculous I looked b/c of how far they bowed out from my head. I plan on wearing these in public on occasion and honestly wouldn't feel comfortable doing so with this particular pair. This shouldn't discourage ppl from purchasing them unless they're avid public users, I just personally feel a little silly. I think I will exchange for something a little more snug.

ONE OF THE TOP RECOMMENDED CANS

The HD280 are a great pair of reference cans. They can best used in the studio for musician as well as engineer, especially for referencing in live sound application. In addition, they are great for listening to a movies.
However, as for being played on an mp3 player/ iPod, they need more ampflication or power to reproduce the lower end of the headphone. The mp3 players and iPod don't have enough output to gives these headphone their true sound. To solve this issue, I would like Best Buy to carry more portable headphone amplifers.

I've been on the fence about buying over-ear headphones for about a year. I have Klipsch S4 for travel and use at school, and Harman/Kardon Soundsticks III in my room. I knew Sennheiser made great products, but I'm pretty money-concious. That's another reason why I chose these over H/K BT headphones ($250!!!)!!!
Today I went in to Best Buy to buy some printer ink and decided to get these. I was assured if I didn't like them I could return them in 60 days. I'm not going to return them! The sound quality is awesome: great for electronic, classical, and metal. They also look great: nothing complicated and ugly like most headphones nowadays. I'm very satisfied with them, especially for $100.

Great Sound Quality

I bought these headphones to replace a set that met an untimely end. I generally look for over-ear headphones with a good sound quality that block out most of the ambient noise.
These headphone did not disappoint. The ear pieces are snug, not tight. The speaker provide a rich sound quality. The coiled cord is the most unsung hero of quality headphones.
For 100 bucks, you really can't beat this pair of headphones. For someone that owns many pairs of quality, professional headphones, these are a great pair for daily use.
As a DJ by night, I wouldn't use these in a club. However, as someone that expects that quality in my headphones, these are great headphones for daily, studio use.

great sound and comfort

These are great sounding headphones. Clear and powerful. Since they are studio headphones, the sound is "flat" but that's not really a bad thing. Just use your device or stereo equalizers to beef it up. The bass is there and is just enough if you don't care about a lot of bass. If you like a lot of booming vibrating bass then these aren't for you. Cord is nice and long and the outside noise cancellation is great.

Best Headphones ever

These are the best headphones I have ever purchased. I live in an apartment and I love to watch movies with 5.1 surround sound. However my family and neighbors don't like the noise. I now use my headphone and it sounds like I am in a movie theater. They are not only great for movies but they are great for music as well. I love these headphones. If how it sounds is important to you then I would suggest these headphones .

Great sound but not for long term comfort

These have a great sound tone and the are great compared to my old headphones. The bass sounds good without vibrating my ears off. the rest of the range is very clear and sounds are very distinct and clear. I use these with my computer and my MP3 player. Setting the equalizer on different settings is the best way to get the sound you want. I get just enough bass and treble that way. My only complaint would be that the headgear is a bit tight on my head for long wearing. The ability to cancel outside nose is good. For me, the pressure cause by the headgear makes it uncomfortable for long time use. It puts too much pressure on my lower jaw just below my ears.

Good Sound Quality, Not Very Comfortable

I have had these headphones for over a year. They have good sound quality, especially for the price. They are pretty good at keeping external noise out even though they are not noise cancelling.
The problem that I have encountered with these headphones is that they are painful to wear, even if just for a short amount of time. I thought that it might just be me, but I talked to my friend who also owns these headphones and he thought that they were uncomfortable as well.
If you plan on using these headphones for listening to music for extended amounts of time then I urge you to consider another pair, because after an hour or so with these headphones on I need to take them off because they are so uncomfortable. They are also so big that it is a hassle to carry them around.

5 Years and Counting

I've had these for 5+ years. These are great. They fold up, can be used in every scenario, and they do last.
Only problem I ever had was the top band cushion started peeling after 3 years...fix: pipe insulation and electrical tape: Good as new!
The ear cups are showing signs of age, but still provide a good seal.
Used on a 24-hour HAM Field Day...These worked great! Ham no problems with the other contesters in the room.
Plus is the 1/4" adapter: since it screws on, it makes it hard to loose it.
Great product, great price!
Only thing I might replace these with would be the HD380Pro.

These headphones are absolutely the best for studio recording. The frequency response is practically flat! I have used them all and unless you just have a ton of money to throw away these combine the features and durability of much more expensive headphones and are a smart purchase.

The sound quality is good overall, the only thing I don't like is that when you use it for more than 1 hrs. you start feeling the pressure in your head, because it's a little too tight

My search for some good FULL size headphones resulted first in purchasing the AKG K272HD. They were extremely comfortable, and the auto adjusting headband was great- but the only way to get all the bass they can deliver was by pushing on the earcups, and soundstage is kind of weird as I've found others to say. I really WANTED to like them, but the imaging and any "musical" quality I was used to with older full size models simply was not there. I then comparison tested the Sennheiser HD 280, 380, and Pioneer 2000 at BestBuy. The choice between the three was simple. The slightly tighter fitting (and better sealing which is good) HD280 always produced better sound and fuller bass, being the perfect amount without being ridiculous like on those Dr. Dre headphones. Drums sound FANTASTIC. Piano and keyboards are slightly more "out front" the way I like it...and there was never any need to fidget around trying to get a good seal; it's there from when you first put them on. They definitely have the "musical" quality I was after, and I am also hearing things I've never heard before, but none of it is in what can be a sometimes unwanted analytical way either. I already have the Sony 7506's which are great for that purpose. I am very happy with the Sennheiser HD280 and my search is over!

Good, cheap, hate head band material
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Construction:
I am comparing this to my Ultrasone HFI-780 and other Sennheiser headphones. Material is cheap compared to my Ultrasone. The head band material is the same used on my Sennheiser PX100, after heavey use it will peel. The Ultrasone head band and ear cups are stronger compared to the HD 280. Both have the same grip on my head.
Sound:
Ultrasone S-Logic is wider compared to the HD 280. Sound of the 280 is flat, but this doesn't mean it lack bass. Depending on what you listen, bass is there. Of course my HFI-780 are heavier on bass.
Need to try both on a headphone amp.

Really like these headphones. I use them at work daily. The sound is amazing for the price.
They can be a bit uncomfortable at first. They really clamp down on your head, but after a couple weeks the spring seems to have loosened a bit and I can wear them all day without any issues.
Back to the audio features. Bass is a bit weaker than I prefer, but the sound isolation is great.

Good cubicle headphones

Great set of headphones for the price. I have a decent ear and for the most part these headphones reproduce the audio on Pandora and Youtube as good as it's delivered. So far satisfied with my purchase for the price. If you want better audio response you'll have to pay, but for a cubicle environment these are perfect and much more comfortable than in-ear headphones.
