Wow I got these after researching all kinds of cans I had the audio technica m50x. They are great headphones but the 650s are on a whole other level the detail and sound stage is amazing I paired them with the fiio k5 docking amp and the fiio X5 3rd gen and it sounds great I kno there are more expensive setups but this is great for me and can't go wrong with the hd650s and for the price I got them for 315$ it is a go!

I've owned more headphones than I care to mention, including Grado SR-125, Sennheiser HD598, Oppo PM-3, Audio Technica MTH-50X, Sony, and Sennheiser HD598. All of these were enjoyable, and in particular the HD598 were the most comfortable. The Oppo PM-3 is my go-to travel headphone that sounds almost as good as the HD650 and is closed back and easy to drive. The Sennheiser HD650 are very special headphones. To me, they are very comfortable, breath well for long listening, and just have a great well-balanced sound from top to bottom. I'm driving them with a Parasound Zdac V2 amp and they sound great with this amplification. Compared to the Senn HD598, they just sound more solid in the bass, smoother, yet detailed midrange, and slightly less energy in the treble. The HD650 is the type of headphone that does not immediately amaze you because it is not boosted in the bass or treble like other headphones. The HD650, with proper amplification, just sound great, don't leave out details, but do sound great for hours. Some headphones (and speakers) may sound great for 5 minutes in the store, but when you get them home, you can't listen to them for more than 5 minutes. HD650 is a great long term headphone.

Natural progression for me over the years, buying more and more expensive headphones to get to this 'audiophile' level. If you like the classic Sennheiser sound, you can't go wrong. These are FANTASTIC and have given me much listening enjoyment. Great sound, great build quality. One thing to note, a dedicated amp is required to have them perform like they are capable of.

These headphones are awesome. They are open headphones, which means the soundstage is wider than closed headphones. They sound phenomenal when paired with a good amp. Others pair these with tube amps and they get really good sound out of them. I love these headphones and I used them daily. They require use before the sound really opens up. Buy them, you won't regret it.

I use these for listening to music on my ipad and PC. These are the best sounding headphones I have ever owned. Much better than the Beats. They are open back so people around you can hear some sound leaking from the headphones.

Got the headphones and a decent amp....haven't really left my head since. Need good quality tracks if listening to digital music, but well worth it if you are able to get FLAC, apple lossless, etc... :)

SENNHEISER AUTHENTICATES THE SOUND OF MUSIC

I have researched, tested, and used various styles and qualities of headphones over the years. While I must, in all fairness, admit that there are numerous high-end makes and models on the market, from roughly $150 to $1,500, deserving of respectively due credit, I personally have consistently leaned toward Sennheiser as the master of this craft. That having been said, their model HD650, at a price of approximately $500, are the most expensive and the finest caliber headphones I've ever owned. I, candidly, do not believe I would be willing, nor do I realistically see the sense, to invest in any model above this price range. There are other units, which do yield bouncier bass; though, the HD650 offers a dedicated freedom of wide-range audio. Further, since this model is not wireless, I happen to appreciate Sennheiser's consideration of a generously and unusually lengthy cord. Kevlar treatment is applied for extra durability to already durably constructed headphones. HD650 is also rather handsomely styled. As for their larger and heavier size, this is absolutely compensated by the plush, comfortable, contoured hug they offer to allow for pleasurable listening sessions of virtually any preferred genre of music. I actually find a vast and eclectic selection of music entertaining. Indeed, music is and has always been one of the purest joys I've found to allow a chance to temporarily escape to a pleasanter place from the negativities and chaos in this world. I've noticed a great deal of mention for a supposedly required amplifier to boost the audio power, which I simply do not comprehend any need for. If such an amplifier is truly necessary, and not merely a ploy to convince the consumer to spend even further, then all of my audio equipment may perhaps already have built-in amplification. All I can say is, as a music lover, the HD650 headphones is one of the best gifts I've given to myself, and I highly recommend the Sennheiser-model HD650 to anyone who is thoroughly serious about listening to intricate details of favorite music. Enjoy this pleasurable experience!

Great full body sound. Open back design so music will be audible from outside the headphones, and you will also be able to hear sound from the outside with headphones on. Very compatible cans, and pair nicely with a DAC, like a Chord Mojo, to power them.

Fantastic cans, not for the iPod crowd.

I have had these headphones for about 4 months now and can safely say they are the best headphones I've ever owned. I will start by saying these headphones are NOT meant for use with an iPod or other MP3 players. An iPod only has enough power to properly power small headphones. Headphones of this size need some sort of amplification to truly be taken advantage of. Once properly amplified these are fantastically accurate and a pleasure to listen to. I listen to a lot of different music from classical to hip hop and I've yet to find any genre that these can't handle. At first they weren't the most comfortable headphones ever but the headband seems to have loosened up and I can now listen for many hours without any discomfort. Bottom Line: If you are looking for great sounding headphones for use at home and don't want to spend a fortune, the HD650's won't disappoint.

    These headphones ROCK!!!

I have gone through lots of headphones but these are the best I have heard for the price. These things sound amazing, the clarity is amazing, each sound frequency is seperated, and sounds like i am sitting in the front row of a live concert. Just beware that these are open aire headphones, and require a high end amp to power them, you don't want to use these with an Ipod or any other mp3 player because they don't have enough to power the headphones. I would recommend these for an audiophile enthusist, who enjoys listining music in their home. You can also upgrade the headphone cables because they are interchangable. I would recommend these headphones to anyone who loves good sound quality, and has a high end amp and SACD player.

    Best mid-level audiophile-grade phones available

Note to future buyers: These phones do need to be amplified. These were my first pair of high end headphones I had bought when I was first getting into audio. I had them amplified with a Headroom Total Bithead. (A nice little amp that runs off of AAA's). They sound awesome. Very neutral headphones. Vocals and individual instruments can be separately heard in clear crisp audio. Very large soundstage as well. These are not bass heavy headphones but hip/hop/rap or techno aren't Sennheiser's target consumers. The bass is there just not overpowering like some other phones can be. Sennheiser's phones have this neutral and well balanced feel that makes it seem like your in a room with surround sound rather than wearing headphones. Last note: I have the sound quality at a 4/5 bars not because it is lacking, but merely because I normally listen to the HD650's older brother, the HD800s and there really isn't much of a comparison. Final note: These phones are the perfect set for anybody wanting to experience the real sound that artists want their listeners to hear.

    A Phenomenal Set of Cans!

These headphones are simply some of the best headphones you can buy and are a great value. You could pay a lot more for a 10% bump in performance and you could pay a lot less for a huge drop in performance. I consider these to be at the sweet spot for price/performance. A lot of reviews have said that the HD650s are 'dark' but if they are properly powered with a good external amp, they sound absolutely beautiful. Beware though, they are open headphones and will leak sound, so these are not a walk around town headphone. These are best used with a nice rig at home and to sit back and just become one with the music. The cable it a tad bulky and stiff but there are a lot of after-market cables that you can buy that tweak the sound a little and boost the ergonomics a lot. Love these headphones!

I purchased the Sennheiser HD560 Headphones over twenty years ago. Over the years I've bought replacement wires three times -- twice due to pet bird damage and once due to general wear and tear. I've also replaced the pads (I'm talking over 20 years!). Everything I've needed has been available at www.Sennheisher.com. After twenty years, these headphones still produce pure, clean, full, rich, and satisfying sound. I give the Sennheiser HD560 Headphones my very highest rating ever, the most bang for the buck consumer item of my lifetime.
