Great headphones that look great and sound better.

I came to Best Buy last month and sampled several headphones to go with my Archos 5 IMT because I wanted a good wired headset. I normally use Bluetooth Stereo. After 30 minutes of test-tuning various models I settled on the HD238s. These headphones sound awesome! They have a broad frequency range and reproduce clean and clear highs. Some have knocked them for not having good bass but those folks must be hard to please. The bass from my set sounds great and have been able to handle any song I put through them..., playing clean and accurate lows. Lossless audio really helps these units shine. These units are also very comfortable with their thick padding on the speakers and on the top bridge, which allows you to wear them for extended periods. Their articulated design let's them adjust to virtually anyone's head. The build quality seems high too, with metallic components here and there. They are lightweight considering their size, and have good formfactor especially with their anti-tangle single cord design, and you can also swap out the ear pads if they get dirty. The 2 year warranty is also an awesome plus. I like a company that stands by their product and unlike some companies that put out products with their name on it, Sennheiser knows audio technology.

I just bought these today after extensive research and I've read the reviews on these headphone at Apple's website (apple.com). I was using Altec Lansing (UHP206) earbud headphones. I like the Altec Lansing alot. For it's size it provided decent bass. Overall it's well balanced. I used it on iPod Touch (3rd generation) and wanted an upgrade. I first sampled the Sennheiser at the Apple store and I was hooked. I sampled Bose and Monster & in my opinion (HD238) is just as good for less money. The bass is tight. It does not over power the mids & the highs. I turned the volume up to 100% and it did not get distorted. I have the EQ set on "Electronic". It is very comfortable to wear for hours. No pressure on your head as associated with other headphones. Since I just bought these I can't comment on the durability. If you're on a budget this is the one to get.

    Superb headphones

Have been using these for almost 3 months. Very comfortable, with overall excellent sound across a wide range of musical styles -- classical, rock, folk, amateur, movies. The soundstage reveals new details in music I thought I was totally familiar with. These headphones are wonderfully neutral -- they play back only what is there -- nothing more nothing less -- no coloration, no strange EQ, no ringing. Some people might not care for the open-back design -- you can certainly hear ambient noises around you. But this engineering approach enables audiophile results at a very reasonable price. Do your homework -- these headphones have overal frequency and 50/500 Hz square-wave response curves that are very similar to the $1400 HD800, and in my opinion better than the $1700 Grado PS1000. These headphones sound better than units costing 4 times as much. Very comfortable after wearing them nonstop for hours. I would buy these again without hesitation.

Great Headphones...one of the best i own

Just so you know the headphones i have owned....Bose On-Ear Headphones, Beats by Dre the Tour, Shure SE210, Skull Candy On-Ear Headphones I don't really like reading lengthy reviews, so i'll get to the point. Best Overall and the one i'm currently wearing: Sennheiser Why? Well sound quality, price, and comfort...Sound Quality, as these headphones are my first Sennheiser purchase, i know it won't be my last. My Bose were my favorite before, but if you're on a budget...i'd stay away from them. They are comfortable, and very durable, and Bose quality is amazing to me...but these have more bass, great quality (even better in my opinion) and provide almost the same comfort level. The Dre's were great....looking. They are less comfortable, the sound quality was lacking, and they tried to make up for it by putting more bass. If i had to recommend an In Ear one, look at the Shure's but for $150...and little bass, i could see why they aren't a big seller. The Skull Candy's were my first pair of headphones...and i can't believe i ever wore them, they came in last in all of the categories in my opinion. Good luck with your decision, L.O Quence

Real Audio and a Low Cost

First I am an Audiophile. I love music and accurate reproduction of that sound. Over the years I have owned and tried tens of headsets and last year I found a great home set in the HD 595's which are STUNNING headphones but I wanted a set of quality phones for the office / PSP gaming around the house. To fit this bill it had to be light and couldn't require a pre-amp to preform well. I looked at the Beats Solo, Bose On Ear, Sony, Groto, and such. After trying those I found that my local BB carried this for $99 (Retail is 140) and even online it was only 10 less. With out researching I thought I would just grab them and see now it goes (got to love return policies). Got home and opened the box and was pretty impress right away and defiantly getting 100 worth of sound out of them. But like all speaks they need to break in so I placed them on my Receiver and and looped Bach for 24 hours before trying them on again. This time the sound was AMAZING! 300-400 good on my receiver (HD 595 still sound better but only slightly). And on my work laptop and PSP they blow everything away (esp the 595's because they require a preamp to behave). Overall they destroy the Solo's and the Bose which are in the vein but $80 more. On my receiver they compete with the big boys: 595's, Beats, and QC15's. All for 100. Cons: Plug cable is stupidly frail feeling. (2 year warranty) Memory Foam on the pads would have been nice. At the end I would buy this again. Esp carrying a 2 year warranty.

One if the best sound I have heard

I am not any pro. I bought it today for personal use and found it really great. Sound quality is good with solid base. Good value for money.Very comfortable. You need to keep volume high to get desired results for MP3 players. Since it allows air flow others around you are able to hear the sound. Not best for airplane use.

Comfortable But Lacks Freq Range, Not worth $99!!!

I was looking for headphones for my home recording studio and these headphohnes did not perform. The got very distorted in loud and even medium volumes, especially when it came to the lows (bass). These are not worth $99.99, The most I would pay for these headphones is $30. The Sony MDR-V150 for $24.99 are just as good if not better than these Sennheiser headphones and you'll get the same sound quality at 1/4th the price (thats if you are satisfied with its range from highs meds and lows). I will be returning these headphones and I will see if Best Buy has the headphones that suite my needs (good frequency range. comfort, durability), Im purposely avoiding the purchase of the $299 Beats by Dr Dre but so far I have not found a pair of headphones that has met its range in frequency, but worse case scenario if I do not find a pair then I will most likely go with the Beats by Dre. The search goes on.....

I just got these at Best Buy today. Overall they are a great pair of headphones especially because in store they are $69.99 now. I bought the $14.99 warranty to replace them if they break. They have excellent sound quality and do a decent job of isolating some background noise. Only things I don't like is that it has a pretty thin cord and it doesn't have the greatest bass. Overall I would recommend these headphones to anyone that likes great sound quality for a lower price.

    Not so Powerful

The Sennheiser HD 238's are very stylish. They look great. They are very comfortable. I don't feel this is the right headphone for MP3 players. Sound seems to be lost and warmed over. I have compared these headphones to another set that I own and the Sennheisers fall way short in the very area that they use for marketing... power. I'm not sure about this but, it may be due to the drivers used. MP3 players are not powerful enough to push the drivers, magnets, diaphragms in the headphone itself. I had a similar issue when connecting to very expensive headphones ($300-$400 range). I connected the Sennheisers to my home stereo using a plug adapter and the sound was wonderful. The tones were nicely balanced. To sum this all up, these are nice headphones better suited for a home stereo that can deliver more power to them.

    Just what I wanted

I needed some new headphones and did some research prior to buy these. I wanted something for my Ipod Touch and to use with my laptop and still be able to hear what's going on around me. These work great just for that but if you don't want anyone to know what you are listening to I suggest you find another headphone then.

    Good, but not the best

I recently bought these to see if they could replace my current headphones, the Koss Portapros- Black ($50 at Best Buy), but they just didn't have good enough clarity or bass. Even for $70, what they cost in-store rather than online, they were only ok, not amazing. If you are looking for portable, affordable, and overall incredible headphones, just get the Koss Portapros. They are my absolute favorite headphones. I even prefer them over my Boss On-Ear headphones.
