Looking for SOL Republic headphones but Best Buy didn't have. Salesman convinced me to get these and glad I did. Great sound and less than Bose for just as good a sound, especially the bass.. A little big on the ears but still very comfortable Lke that they fold up since I travel so much.

Great for 1st time, high-end headphone user

Despite giving my thoughts on sound features of which I don't have much knowledge of - I will say these headphones still do sound great. The bass is very powerful and without barely even turning up my sound on my laptop I can drown out all of the noise while I'm out in public at WI-FI hotspots. Most importantly the headphones have extremely comfortable ear cups with plenty of room for my large ears due to the angled cups - therefore I can listen to them endlessly without any stress or discomfort. They also only seem to extend just enough for my fairly large cranium, and unfortunately bow out from my head causing my head to have an even bigger profile! But for any other normal user - I'm sure there would be plenty of room. That being said the headband is comfortable and the design is modest and not gaudy like other brands. The headphones also swivel and fold in towards the headband giving it a very compact size when traveling or trying to squeeze them into a carrying bag with your laptop and other essentials. There's also only one cord coming from the headphones which is great for winding the cord up in-between uses and keeping things untangled. My only complaint is that instead of coming with a carrying case, like it was misleadingly advertised on Best Buy's site (but not Sennheiser's - which I found out after the fact), it comes with a carrying "pouch" - which does little to protect a pretty costly investment if in the bag you were storing it in at the time was squished. The least Sennheiser should do is supply a hard case at such a high cost. Best Buy also needs to correct their product details. Despite that, these are great headphones and a worthwhile upgrade from in-ear buds.

Keeps my father sane

My father got tired of hearing the sounds in the hospital while he was recovering from surgery. He called me up on his iPhone telling me he needed some headphones that can block out noise. I walked into bestbuy with my mom, and I instantly knew by heart that sennheiser was going to be my choice. They had these on sale for $74.99 at the time. They work flawlessly, and actually block out noise better than I thought. He says it's the only thing keeping him sane while at the hospital. He gets his iphone hooked up to internet radio and just jams out to classic rock such as Queen and the Beatles. He also listens to some 90's ballad rock and country every now and then. I noticed that the 3.5mm adapter is (like most headphones nowadays) flimsily made. If you pull the headphones out of a device from the cord, it will cause the dreaded "one headphone working" problem. But if you take decent care of it and use the case it comes with (which is VERY handy) these headphones should last an adequate amount of time. And they sound amazing, and have an impeccable range of sound from deep, DEEP lows to the soaring highs. I'm jealous now, as I don't have headphones of my own. Maybe if he's nice enough he'll share.

Better than $150 Bose.

Those who have given this pair of headphones a bad review have no idea what they are talking about! I am a media professional with experience using professional studio headphones for years of all sorts of brands, AKG, Sony, Bose, Audio-Technica, Shure, etc. Professional Headphone monitors shoudl not to be confussed with your basic headphones from Skullcandy, Monster, Beats Audio, or any other gimmicky headphones that distort or manipulate sound, often to add additional bass or other such nonsence. These are professional grade monitors...the difference is they are made to give you the clearest, most accurate sound possible. I purchased them for $150 at the same time as a pair of $150 bose for my wife. Listening to them side by side, the Sennheiser are the better headphones. The frequency response is better, they have clearer midrange and less of a muddy sound on the bass. the only improvement I would have liked to see would be adding a better cord, something like the Sony MDR-7506. I also would have liked to see a safety disconnect to prevent damaging the cord if ti gets caught on something.

I've owned Sennheisers before and this pair didn't sound good at the store but I was thinking the listening console wasn't doing it justice. Actually I wanted to buy the HD558 but they didn't have them so I took a chance. I'm returning these and getting the HD558 which are only $30 more.

Great While They Last

These things sound great while they work. Unfortunately, they do not last more than a few months before the audio starts cutting off in one ear. I'm on my second pair and these are going out just like the other pair.
