After beating SOTTR I can say that I am definitely satisfied with this new trilogy! ( Trilogy so far. Fingers crossed) As good as the game is, it is not without its flaws. SOTTR is beautiful. Laura and her animations look absolutely amazing. The environments she travels to pop with lush greenery, sharp textures and smooth surfaces. This is hands down the best looking game in the series. My favorite visual aspect of the game has to be the underwater sections, although you are limited to how long you can hold your breath, I couldn't help but to stop and admire how great the water effects are and how mesmerizing the surroundings were. (My favorite screenshot attached to this review in the comments.) Laura and the main characters are animated well and the cutscenes were a marvel to watch. These over the top set pieces kept you entertained. There were many movie cliches during the story, but I was ok with that. The story telling was gripping from beginning to end. Sidenote: You can also change Laura's expressions in the cutscenes using photographer mode for some pretty funny effects! The Music and sound effects are amazing. It keeps the tension building while exploring or in combat and the way your footsteps sound over gravel, grass, pavement, or even the way your pickaxe sounds as its pouring into porous rock sounds extremely satisfying. The gameplay overall was very satisfying. This is not your simple run and jump platformer. As stated before in my first impression, (Screenshot in the comments) the controls are precise, meticulous and deliberate. Every button has a specific purpose for a specific action. This is extremely prevalent when it comes to scaling, climbing and traversing the different mountains, tombs and hidden environments. So much focus was put on this that there were very weird and frustrating glitches that I ran into while doing so. Laura would get stuck in place, she would not jump correctly to certain ledges, many of the grapple points needed specific timing to grapple to where you didn't figure it out unless you died trying and some jumps were so weird and precise that you were almost guaranteed to rage quit. Rise of the Tomb Raider climbing mechanics are superior to this game in almost every way. Glitches aside, Laura moved about the environment extremely well and traversal period was well implemented. The game is much more focused on puzzles and exploration. You will spend most of your time trying to figure out solution to these crafty puzzles, hunting down collectibles and have a sense of satisfaction once you do. There are very limited enemy encounters this time around in this game, but each one allows you to try out any new skill you have aquired. The combat is done very well and you have many ways of dispatching your foes. You can go in guns blazing or be the silent assassin to your hard content. You have every option of playstyle thanks to the revamped skill tree system. My only complaint is there is really no need to use any other weapon since there are no weapon specific trophies. However, that is a very minor gripe. I really enjoyed SOTTR and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking for a great experience in either story, combat or exploration

This is lara's final chapter in her origin story and as matters grow more intense and dangerous, you slowly see her rise from her former timid self to a more confident and deadly tomb raider we now her to be.

This is supposed to be the final installment in the origin trilogy of Tomb raider. The first of the reboot trilogy came out in 2013. I think this game's story and gameplay mechanics are much better than the first game. However, like most trilogies, the second game (rise of) was definitely the best of three. That being said, this game is a solid AAA game. The gameplay is very satisfying. One of the things i don't like: the costumes and attributes can't be switched like in spiderman(ps4). As a whole, it's a great game with minor issues compared to the other two.

Bought this last week and have been enjoying the heck out of it. The game has less combat than past games but has way more focus on exploration and puzzle solving like the classic Tomb Raider games. I don't know why reviews were so down on this. Great graphics, story, and gameplay. Steelbook is cool too. Looking forward to the additional content.

What a great tomb raider game. Lots to explore and lots to collect. A lot of action. A lot of fun. The world is really big as well. There's a new game plus after you beat it too. Interesting story that's a little different from the usual, but it's still like a tomb raider game. There's some free stuff to download on psn as well.

The way SE handled this game and discounted it significantly within weeks of the release is deplorable. That being said, I think this is the best game in the series. Lara is at her strongest, as both a toe to toe fighter and a predator. The stealth is what wins it for me; Lara is almost as scary a predator as Batman is. I wish there were more combat/stealth segments, but this game is great and doesn't deserve to be shafted. Steelbook is really nice, but I kinda wanna keep the cardboard slipcover over it to avoid damaging it.

Easily the best game in the trilogy. Lara is at her finest and her skills have expanded. The narrative has never been this series' strong suit and this outing doesn't change that line of thinking at all. In terms of gameplay and variety of locales is where Shadow excels. 17 hours in and there is way more exploration & tomb raiding than before. I'd say a ratio of 80/20.

Shadow of the Tomb raider isn't a far chase from the other two games in the series. The graphics are outstanding, on par with Uncharted 4. The story brings Lara to new heights, and continues her transformation into the Tomb Raider we know her as. Best of the trilogy. I recommend playing the first 2 if you have not already. All great games!

Insanely beautiful game with the combat of Rise of the Tomb Raider. Biggest change is the customizable difficulty settings for combat, puzzles, and exploration. It feels like classic tomb raiding where the game didn’t hold your hand the entire time. Kind of reminded me of Zelda Breath of the Wild in that regard to puzzles and exploration.

And in a big way to! Zero complaints, fantastic experience so far and very VERY happy I picked this up. Always loved the steelbooks to so it even looks great on the shelf. Gameplay is exactly what I loved about the previous games and will continue to pickup future releases. Even the pending DLC looks awesome! Story is top notch too.

Tomb Raider has been my favorite video game franchise to this day. I'm very critical when it comes to reviewing my favorites. This game has surpassed all of my expectations. Every mission, every area, turns to a new breath of air. This game is a must get! Don't miss out on Lara's new adventure in South America and beyond!

Shadow of the Tomb Raider is the third entry in the popular franchise and it delivers on all fronts. This game builds on what was already great and makes it even better in every way. Combat system, weapons, stealth, story, and gameplay. If you loved the first two games then this is a must buy.

I am a big fan of Tomb Raider, and I love this new trilogy. I am only about 5 hours into the game. This game is so beautiful and the story is very interesting. But I think the Croft Edition is over-priced. This steelbook is exactly the same as the standard pre-order bonus steelbook. I don't know what Square Enix has in store for the Season Pass, but the 3 DLC outfits, 3 DLC weapons and Soundtrack doesn't justify the extra $30.

Loved the past 2 games: Tomb Raider (Definitive Edition) and Rise of the Tomb Raider 20th Anniversary. Been waiting for this before it was announced. I figured they have to make a sequel to these games, especially considering the reviews both has gotten. And the rumor came along about the 3rd installment title as what it is now: Shadow of the Tomb Raider. The title alone gives much anticipation about the game. I couldn't wait. :) Not going to re-write what others have already said. Only thing I've personally experienced is glitches/temp freezes while playing the game at randomly. The freezes goes away after few seconds but gets really annoying. Not sure if its because of the console I have. I have the Uncharted 4 Limited Edition (Model: CUH-12XXB/Uncharted Edition) console. A friend of mine is experiencing the same issue and he has a PS4 Slim console.

If you are a fan of adventure games this is a definite must for the collection. For reference: similar style to the past tomb raider and uncharted games. Fun puzzles, fun exploration, decent combat and decent story. This game didn't take away from the tomb raider franchise but it also didn't add anything new. If you are a fan of the franchise or have never played an adventure game you will have enjoy it.
