A moving true story of a love like no other.

"Shadowlands" tells the true story of the most unlikely and unique love story imaginable, between the stodgy and ultra-reserved Oxford professor C.S. Lewis (the author of the beloved Narnia books) and the very outspoken, wisecracking and opinionated New York writer and poetess Joy Gresham. A more unlikely couple has never existed, but their incredible love story has been the subject of books, articles, plays, and now this very fine film. We ran this wonderful movie for room full of people of all different ages and sexes and when it was over, there wasn't a single dry eye in the house. "Shadowands" is an examination of the price we pay to love, of the sacrifices we make because of it, and the lasting impressions we leave behind with those with whom we share our love. You have never seen (or imagined possible) a love story like this one, and our world may never see another one like it. An absolutely fabulous movie that will open even the most jaded of hearts.

The man behind the writing

Shadowlands focuses on a portion of the life of the famous author, C.S. Lewis. He is known both for his theological writings (such as Mere Christianity) as well as for his fantasies such as the Chronicles of Narnia and a science fiction trilogy. The story involves the relationship he develops with Joy Gresham, a woman who stretched Lewis in ways he never would have imagined. Because of Joy, and because of her illness, suffering and death, this man of brilliant intellect learns critical life lessons. The acting of Anthony Hopkins and Debra Winger make watching the film a delight.
