The vacuum is excellent. Its strong suction makes a huge difference when dealing with dog hair, and with three dogs, that’s a lifesaver. It keeps the floors noticeably cleaner and picks up hair effectively. The self-cleaning base is a great feature it keeps the vacuum free of debris and ready for the next use. I also appreciate the built-in light, which really shows how much dirt and hair is on the floor. The battery life is solid as well, perfect for medium-sized cleaning sessions. Overall, it’s a reliable and convenient vacuum for pet owners. Additionally, you can adjust the vacuum to bend the vacuum to get those lower areas with ease.

The Ultimate Small Cordless Vacuum

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
Cords on a vacuum can be a hassle. I’ve owned multiple vacuums with cords, and as a corded vacuum user, the worry that you might accidentally pull the plug or run over the cord is always at the back of your mind. Luckily, cordless vacuums exist to alleviate this anxiety. This is my first cordless vacuum, and wow, this one has certainly exceeded my expectations! There are some minor downsides to this cordless vacuum, but overall, this little guy is a beast. This is my review of the Shark – Detect Clean & Empty, Cordless Vacuum.
*TLDR at the bottom
==================
IN THE BOX/SET-UP:
In the box, you get many parts to assemble. The floor nozzle, flex wand, and handheld vacuum are some of the items included with the vacuum. This cordless vacuum also comes with a dock to charge the vacuum and to empty the handheld vacuum dust cup. There are two attachments included as well: A crevice and upholstery tool. The assembly instructions are both on the box and in the owner’s guide.
Setup took less than 15 minutes. The instructions are straightforward and to the point. I highly recommend charging the vacuum before first use. Outside the box, the battery level on the vacuum was around 50%. Once the vacuum is fully charged, it is ready for use!
==================
BUILD QUALITY/DESIGN AND COMFORT:
I’ve owned Shark products in the past, and they all have stood the test of time. I have a corded small Shark vacuum from 5 years ago, and it is still running great to this day. This cordless vacuum seems to be built well. Most of the vacuum is plastic to keep it lightweight. The floor nozzle, which is likely to sustain the most wear, feels sturdy. The only item I’m worried about is the lithium-ion rechargeable battery. Like most rechargeable batteries, the battery degrades over time, and eventually, the battery won’t hold a charge. It is hard to tell how long this battery will last, as it depends on many factors. But luckily, Shark does offer replacements for $90 when that replacement time comes. There is also a 2-year warranty for the battery and a 5-year limited warranty for the vacuum. Overall, this vacuum is built well!
In terms of design and comfort, the vacuum is designed to be as comfortable and versatile as possible. It is lightweight and easy to handle, and comfortable to use in both floor vacuum and handheld modes. I love the ability of being able to easily switch to a handheld vacuum. There are hard-to-reach areas in my home, like in some corners or above tall cabinets, where handheld mode is useful to pick up all that packed dust. There’s also a mini clip to store the hand vac on the wand when not in use. The dock is amazing. It does not take up a lot of space, and it is designed to charge the vacuum and empty out the dust cup on the vacuum when you are done vacuuming. The dock also has an accessory storage compartment for the crevice tool. But a downside is that it looks like there is no storage compartment for the upholstery tool. I have been storing it in the slot where the dustbin’s handle is for now. Another downside is that the vacuum is top-heavy. Whenever you are not using it in between vacuuming sessions, you will need to find a place to lean it against, otherwise, it will tip over. Although this is an understandable design necessity and a fair trade-off to be able to use this vacuum without a cord.
==================
PERFORMANCE:
This little guy is powerful. Using the UI display on the vacuum, you can switch between 3 modes: Auto, Eco, and Boost. Auto mode does what’s best to optimize suction and power, Eco mode maximizes runtime and saves battery, and Boost mode maximizes suction but uses the most battery. I mostly vacuumed in auto mode, and this mode does a swell job at vacuuming both hard floors and some carpets. I have high pile, low pile carpets, and hard floors. On low pile carpet and hard floors, maneuvering this vacuum is easy. On the other hand, with high pile, it does get a little challenging to operate the vacuum. During turns, the little wheels tend to struggle, and I found myself sometimes lifting the vacuum. Keep this in mind if you have these carpet/floor types. I used Boost mode in my kitchen to pick up the small food scraps. Note, the vacuum does get louder in this mode. I didn’t use Eco mode a lot, but power is at a minimum in this mode. Sound is also noticeably quieter. I was most surprised by how much suction power this vacuum has for something of this size.
In Auto mode, there are several features that assist the user in seeing how much power is being used and which side of the floor nozzle is being used. There is an LED light indicator on top of the floor nozzle. When the LED is blue, it indicates that no heavy debris is detected; when the LED is red, this indicates that heavy debris is being vacuumed up. Additionally, whenever an edge is detected, like the edge of a wall. The side of the floor nozzle that is touching the wall will boost in power. This can be seen when the LED light is lit up for the edge that you are vacuuming. Also, this is really meant for small to medium-sized apartments or homes. It would take a long time to vacuum a large home with a vacuum this size.
The handheld vacuum and wand work great, too. I used mine to clean hard-to-reach areas and crevices, and it did an amazing job. I especially love the weight. This handheld vacuum is certainly more lightweight than some other vacuums I’ve used. Once you are finished, dock the vacuum to the dock, and click the little moon button on the dock. All your dust and debris in the vacuum’s dust cup will quickly proceed to be sucked into the dust bin. And just like that, your vacuum’s dust cup is empty. There is no need to hover over a trash can while hoping no dust gets into your nose.
==================
CLEANING AND MAINTENANCE:
Like any vacuum, this one also requires maintenance to keep it running well. Maintenance can be a hassle, but looking through what is needed for this vacuum, it doesn’t look like it is too time-consuming. On the vacuum itself, I have been emptying out the dust cup into the dock’s dust bin each time I am finished vacuuming. I have yet to fill up the dust bin on the dock, but according to Shark, the bin holds up to 30 days' worth of dust and debris. After a month or two, the vacuum’s dust cup and filter should be cleaned too. The filter must be rinsed with water only; soap is not recommended. The hand vac also has a HEPA filter that must be occasionally cleaned. There is no recommended schedule, but this filter is located on the side of the hand vac. The final filter is located on the dock which will also need to be cleaned regularly. Some other items that need maintenance are the floor nozzle and the sensors located on both the hand vac and the floor nozzle. This may seem like a lot, but realistically, one can get all of this done in less than an hour.
==================
CONCLUSION/TLDR:
Overall, this is an excellent cordless vacuum cleaner. It is meant for small to medium-sized apartments or homes due to its size. But don’t let its size fool you, it’s certainly powerful. This vacuum is on the pricier side, but if you are willing to bite, you will get a variety of premium features that come in higher-end Shark vacuums. The dock that works both as a charging station and a dust bin is great for easy clean-up after vacuuming. Auto mode senses what is on the floor, and the suction power will adjust to what is detected. Finally, this is a cordless vacuum; there is no need to worry about tripping over a wire or running over one. Battery life over time is a concern, but Shark does offer a 2-year warranty and replacements. If you are looking for a great cordless vacuum that is lightweight, has strong suction power, and is easy to maintain, I wholeheartedly recommend you give this vacuum a shot!

Powerful & Easy to Use

📦 UNBOXING:
Inside the box, you’ll find everything you need to get set up. You’ll find a quick-start guide, the handheld vacuum, the auto-empty 2L charging base, a rechargeable battery, the multiflex wand, the PowerFins brush, a crevice tool, and an upholstery tool. There’s quite a bit of plastic used in the packaging, but also quite a bit of cardboard, as well.
🛠️ SETUP:
Setup is easy. The dock is disassembled into two pieces: the docking rod and the base. Simply attach the rod to the base, then plug the base into a wall outlet. Then attach the battery to the vacuum, attach the multi-flex wand, then the brush. You’ll want to let it charge before the first use, and Shark says a full charge should take 6.5 hours.
🪫 DOCKING / EMPTY STATION:
The docking station is one of the stronger selling points of this vacuum. It collects up to 2L of debris which can be auto-emptied when you dock the vacuum. You can toggle this behavior via a sleep button on the dock. When the button is pressed and illuminated, it’ll only charge the vacuum, and when toggled off it will charge + auto empty every time you dock.
🧹 VACUUM:
The build of the Shark Detect Clean & Empty Cordless Vacuum system is surprisingly good. It uses a plastic build both across the vacuum + accessories as well as the dock, but it certainly doesn’t feel cheap.
The handheld vacuum is reasonably lightweight, and should be easy to use in a car when the crevice tool or upholstery tool is directly attached, but some 2 door cars with back seats might be a bit more cramped to navigate. So while I think this cordless vacuum could help clean in most cars, it’s definitely designed more for in-home cleaning. It has a transparent dust cup so you can see what you’re collecting, and its filters are easy to access and replace. The battery attaches at the bottom of the handle similar to most power drills, and Shark says the battery should operate for up to 60 minutes in Eco mode. On the back of the vacuum, there is a power button and a mode button that lets you switch between the Eco, Auto and Boost modes.
The multi-flex wand is 2ft, but because the weight distribution will be towards the vacuum, it makes holding out the vacuum with the wand easier. With that said, those with less strength may find it easier to use your other hand to grip the wand at the short end. This can help give some extra strength while reaching higher areas. But the real feature of this wand is the fact that it bends so that you don’t have to. The bending wand makes it easy to reach deep under low places like beds, sofas, and coffee tables. Most vacuums struggle to reach deep under beds, but the multi-flex wand alleviates that issue really well.
Attaching the PowerFins brush to the wand is easy. When they stand perpendicular, the brush stays locked like a traditional upright vacuum. With the vacuum on, the brush engages its lights to illuminate dirt and debris that you might not normally see. In my experience, this made it especially easier to find cat litter on the floor. And when the brush detects different floor types, it can automatically increase the brush speed up to 2x RPM using the “Floor Detect” feature.
For attachments, the crevice tool and upholstery tool are nothing special, but are useful. When not in use, the crevice tool can be stowed away on the floor slot of the dock. The crevice tool makes it easier to clean baseboards, windows, and narrower spaces. The upholstery tool’s tip is almost like a micro velcro or something, as it does a good job at collecting pet hair that is a little annoying to extract. Even so, it is effective and saves me time.
🧹 CLEANING PERFORMANCE:
Overall, cleaning performance on this Shark Clean & Empty cordless vacuum has been very good. Especially thanks to its PowerFin brush and Floor Detect feature, I was able to get cat hair out of a rug that another cordless stick vacuum couldn’t, and it was effortless because the Floor Detect feature kicked the brush into high gear automatically.
Under Auto mode, the vacuum operates in Eco mode on floors and tile, and will use Boost mode on carpets and rugs. If you need a longer runtime, you may want to switch to Eco mode. For homes with predominately carpet, this will mean Auto mode will yield Boost mode most of the time.
The Auto Empty feature is also very good and does not have any issues with debris leakage thanks to its allergen and HEPA filter. That being said, since the dock uses a bagless design, this does mean when you do eventually empty the dock, there may be some debris leakage. However, the upside is that you don’t have to purchase a bunch of expensive proprietary vacuum bags.
🧐 CONCLUSION:
Overall, this Shark Detect Clean & Empty cordless stick vacuum has become one of my favorite vacuums. I appreciate that I don’t have to remove a charging cable from the vacuum each time I need to use it, I don’t need to drill into a wall to dock it, and I don’t even need to empty it very frequently thanks to its 2L capacity auto-emptying dock. I’ve been really impressed with its suction and brush performance especially for pet hair.

Great Vac for a Premium

The Shark Detect vacuum takes a great feature of robot vacs and adds it to the stick vac world. It is powerful, lightweight and easy to use. All these features could come at a cost though, a financial ask of roughly $500. It is a great product that I would recommend to anyone but the price will be a barrier unless you can get it on sale.
What works really well on this vacuum and is one of its two standout features is the auto empty feature. This is fantastic and works flawlessly. Every time you put the vac back on the stand, the base sucks out all the dust and other floor inhabitants into a large bin kept in the base. It is an amazing benefit for multiple reasons. First - it takes the work out of your hands. You don’t need to empty the bin nearly as much as you would with a normal stick vac. Second - the less frequent emptying of a bin in the trash means less mess. It’s always a bit messy to dump out a vacuum bin. Third - there is no expensive branded bag in the bin that you need to buy. Everything just falls into the bin and you dump it out. This saves money since you don’t need to buy a potentially expensive Shark branded bag every time, plus it is more eco friendly to not throw a bag away along with whatever the vac sucks up.
The other big standout feature is the “Detect” part of this vac. Essentially the vac is “smart” enough to tell when you move from a hard floor to carpet or a rug and it can adjust the brush function and suction level based on the surface and its density. This is nice for most homes that are not all one type of surface.
The base, as you might imagine, keeps the vac charged while it hangs there, which is good because I would rate the battery life at a 7 out of 10. I use the vacuum to do two average sized rooms with the Detect feature engaged and it can take the battery down from all four bars to two. It’s not a deal breaker for me because it’s not too bad at all really, but I wish it was a little better. The good thing is it will almost always be fully charged when you pick it up off the base.
As far as other features, there are some that are quite helpful, like the ability to bend the vac in the middle so you can easily vacuum under tables and other furniture, it’s one button press. I like that the battery pops out just like a drill or other battery powered tool, which means if you have battery degradation, you can buy a new battery instead of a whole new vacuum. The air filter is easy to access and clean, the brush bar on the bottom is also very easy to remove and clean, the controls are pretty easy and intuitive.
The Shark Detect really is a nice vac with a lot of nice features. It works well and empties and charges itself. I think overall it is a great option to clean your floors. My concerns lie with the battery life (7 of 10) and the price. At $500 it is priced along with some vacs that “never lose suction” which may be a better value? If you can get this vac for less than $300 (as I type this it is on a Black Friday sale for $229) I would say it’s a good deal, but not at $499.

Auto-empty cordless vacuum

I wasn’t sure about how good the auto-empty capabilities of the Shark Detect with Clean and Empty vacuum were, and it does really make a difference being able to clean the dust cup automatically. It is the first time I own one of these auto-empty devices, and it was the main reason I chose it; besides the fact that I needed a light and portable yet decently powerful vacuum to carry around. With its three-level suction power, and the couple of attachments it comes with, you can use it in different areas, on floors, sofas, etc. It is light enough that you can even clean your desk with it (of course you’d need to set it in “handheld” mode). I think it does its job very well, and I also think this device deserves an easy 5/5 rating.
>> Setup
Assembling is very intuitive, unless you’ve never assembled any device, you won’t really need to inspect the manual. I only inspected the manual after the fact, to learn a few useful things, such as how to take care of this unit.
There was only one thing that looked odd, the unit hangs a little when placed in the docking station that is used for auto-empty and charging. I assume this is so to make sure that there is contact between the handheld vacuum and the docking station, so that battery can charge and also for emptying the vacuum dust cup.
>> Autodetect
Similarly to other Shark devices, at least to one other Shark vacuum I own, this one can increase or decrease power depending on the amount of material it is sucking or how dirty an area is.
It has light indicators that point out how things are going. For example, when detecting dirty areas, the light becomes red, while if all seems clean, the light turns blue.
One other interesting aspect I noticed is that when vacuuming on an edge, it could be against a wall or by the side of a sofa, for example, half of the lights illuminate towards the edge on the side/half against the edge, leaving the other side/half dark. I like this little detail. Smart indeed.
>> Battery
The unit charges when connected to the docking stand. I noticed that the battery has an input on the side that I assume you can use with some other Shark chargers. This seems handy if you lose the stand for this device, you could still use the vacuum and use a Shark charging cable to do so. I haven’t tried charging with a cable though, I don’t want to void any warranty, but I’ll try if the circumstances merit.
In addition, I wished the battery lasted longer and it charged faster. This is not a deal breaker going against purchasing one of these, though.
>> Operating modes
It has three “levels”: Save, Normal and High.
High setting is very useful for areas that have some dirt a little out of reach for the normal operation suction power and the system cannot detect. I mostly rely on the Normal setting. I’ve used the other modes a couple of times when vacuuming uneven areas.
Unlike other vacuums I own, this one doesn’t stop when in a complete upright position. Another Shark device I own would stop if it was up right. At least in my case, I find this one useful because I can easily clean the stairs while going down.
>> Keeping the unit clean
I already mentioned how attractive the auto-empty capabilities of this device are. Note that auto-empty applies to the handheld component and its dirt cup. The handheld’s dirt cup is emptied when connected to the docking station, but you still need to clean the docking storage’s dust bin, as it is there where all the debris from the auto-clean goes.

Shark - Detect Clean & Empty, Cordless Vacuum

The Shark - Detect Clean & Empty, Cordless Vacuum is all about efficient cleaning. The marquee feature which is a self evacuating dirt chamber on the vacuum itself proved to be it's best selling point during my use of it. After a fair bit of vacuuming, the canister in the vacuum itself will become full. Docking on the charging station, then pressing the moon button (which I found to be an odd choice for an icon) initiated the secondary vacuum system which removes the dirt from the vacuum itself and empties it into a separate container at the bottom of the unit. This secondary canister needs emptying every so often via a button which expels the waste into a trash bin. The entire system results in a clean, dust free removal of vacuumed items. I found this system to work fantastic, without error.
The vacuum itself charges fairly quickly, while I didn't sit around timing it, it was always ready when I needed it. While vacuuming, the modes will cycle depending on conditions. If you vacuum carpet, the mode with the strongest suction and fastest propulsion will be triggered. When on hard floors, a quieter, less suction will be triggered. My house is mostly hard wood and tile, so I was in the lower, quieter mode most of the time only using the maximum capabilities for occasional carpets and rugs. I found I was able to get about 30-40 min maximum out of a single charge, a far bit less than the advertised 60 minutes. I suppose if you vacuumed air and nothing else strenuous, you might get 60 minutes out of this thing. I was able to vacuum one floor at a time on the given charge with great details, or, I could do a quick cleaning through the entire house, which aids in keeping dog hair at a minimum.
The movement and weight of the Vacuum was nice. I found maneuverability to be good, though it was a bit too thick to get under beds and some couches. It did an adequate job if cleaning up most things from the floor, occasionally failing to get stuff clinging to carpets or missing some harder to get dog hair. With a few passes, it got an estimated 85% of the stuff up and was ideal for in between vacuuming's for when I have to bring out the big one. Noise was very nice on this unit, it does not have that shrill sound of most vacuums. It was more of a muted suction. The included attachments, while the work, were less than average and did not add much practical use to the otherwise main head and/or no attachment at all. The "thin" one wasn't thin enough to make cleaning things like a car happen, it was too thick. The flat "stair" cleaner offered practically zero use case. Honestly, i'm considering just throwing them out vs having to find a place to keep them.
There is also a S hook that came attached to the main shaft of the unit, I cannot figure out what it is for. Instructions give no assistance either. None of the attachments connect to it and I cannot find any purpose it servers. There is a spot on the charging unit to hold the thinner attachment, however, no place for the flat one. Overall, it feels like the attachments were an after thought and their storage even less of one.
The convenience and cleanliness of the shark along with it's adequate cleaning abilities makes this an great secondary vacuum to keep close by for those things which need daily or bi-weekly attention. I would not recommend this to be the sole vacuum for anyone with kids or pets. Perhaps in an apartment or smaller dwelling with no pets and a minimal amount of routine mess. Otherwise, this is not substantial enough.
I appreciate Shark for what they did well on this unit, and it does solve some fundamental issues with other style vacuums. If they can engineers one with more "heavy duty" capabilities, that would surely be a win for me. I will be happy to use this for my medium to light duty work and appreciate it's simplicity.

Love nearly everything about this vacuum

My house has a mix of carpet and wood floors. This works great on wood floors and low profile mats and pretty well on carpet. While I wouldn't replace my large ball style upright vacuum with this for carpet permanently as my only vacuum, this works great as an every day vacuum, great for cleaning up quick messes or easily maneuvering under tables, thanks to it's flexible body.
I pick this up almost every day when I see a dustball collected in the corner of a room, or along the sides of a hallway. Because I never have to worry about manually emptying this, it's extremely convenient to just pick up, use for a couple minutes, and drop back on the base.
I have another cordless vacuum in the same style but without an auto-emptying base, and using it ends up being much more intentional. I have to return it to a closet between uses, manually dump its contents after each use and wash my hands after because I inevitably have to clean something out of the container by hand. This Shark vacuum solves all those problems!
I have a robot-style vacuum with an auto-emptying container, which is also great, but this being incorporated into a wand style vacuum takes convenience to an entirely different level. If a kid drops a snack on the floor, rather than grabbing a wet paper towel to wipe it up, it's quick and convenient to just quickly pull out this vacuum from the nearby stand, use it, drop it back on the stand, and move on while it empties itself into the base.
I have one minor gripe with this vacuum, and my wife shares it as well. It has a "feature" where it locks in to an upright position, and you have to put your foot on the base of the vacuum to get it to tilt again. A different branded wand style vacuum I have also locks into an upright position, but I'm able to simple tilt it a certain way to get it to tilt into a usable position. It's a bit annoying when vacuuming under things and it accidentally locks into the upright position and I have to push it back down to a tilt with my foot before resuming, but it's definitely not a deal breaker.
Overall, this is hands down the best overall everyday vacuum I've ever owned. If I had only very short carpet, or only hard floors, this would be a great solo vacuum. With normal length carpet floors, this still makes a great daily vacuum, but I'd prefer to have a full upright for the occasional deeper clean. I'd definitely recommend this product. The convenience of not having to empty it manually after each use has definitely left my house cleaner.

The Best Vacuum I’ve Ever Owned!

I have had the Shark Detect Clean and Empty Cordless Vacuum for a little over a week, and it is easily the best vacuum I have ever owned. There is so much to love about it, starting with the bagless design. The handheld unit has its own canister that you can empty directly into the trash. You can also place the vacuum on its base and let it automatically suck all the debris into a larger canister on the station. Not having to buy vacuum bags is a huge win. I used to hate buying them, and now that cost and hassle are gone.
Another feature I love is the hinge on the vacuum tube. It makes cleaning low or awkward spaces incredibly easy. Getting under the couch or the wine cabinets used to be a chore. Now it is simple and quick.
This vacuum is also surprisingly smart. There is a ring on both the vacuum head and the handle display that changes color to show how dirty the area is. Red means dirty, yellow means somewhat dirty, and blue means clean. It also seems to sense when you are vacuuming along a wall or edge. When it detects that, the vacuum increases power on the edge and even adjusts the headlights to illuminate the wall line more clearly. This is especially helpful under kitchen cabinets.
Eco mode is nice, but I usually stick with full power. I have a Bernedoodle that leaves puffy balls of hair everywhere and this vacuum handles them better than anything I have ever used. So far, it has picked up everything, even popcorn kernels buried in thick carpet. The self-cleaning brush is also legit. There are zero long strands of my wife's hair wrapped around the roller.
There are two filters that may need to be replaced eventually, but the cost is minimal. You can also blow them out with compressed air or rinse and dry them to extend their life. Battery performance has been excellent. I can vacuum two floors of my home on full power and still end up at about half a charge.
The vacuum also detects the type of surface it is on. I can move from wood floors to carpet to thin and thick throw rugs without pausing. The vacuum automatically adjusts power and speed depending on the surface and how dirty it is. When docked, the unit does not take up much space, so it is easy to store almost anywhere. It also looks good enough to leave out if you prefer.
The charging base has a moon button that lets you choose between charging only or charging and cleaning out the handheld canister. This model includes a couple of attachments, including a narrow tool for tight spaces and a wider one that is perfect for couches.
Overall, I absolutely love this vacuum. I have owned some very expensive, top tier models before. To be honest, this one is my favorite so far. No more bags and no more weird vacuum designs. This thing is awesome.

We live in turbo mode

This Shark vacuum is fantastic if you have an active household, a messy kid, and several cats who seem to turn feral the moment they wake up. We’ve really put it through the test over the past couple of weeks, and for the most part, we absolutely love it.
I’m a huge fan of the auto-detect feature, which lets the vacuum sense dirt levels / floor type and adjust the suction on its own. When I move from hardwood to a rug, it automatically ramps up the power for a deeper clean. My wife, on the other hand, hates that feature and lives exclusively in turbo mode. We both clean a lot, and the one thing we completely agree on is the light weight of this vacuum. That’s the standout feature here. We have another stick vacuum that feels almost twice as heavy and requires us to adjust the wand every time we dock it into the charging station. The Shark doesn’t do that, it just drops right into its base with no fuss.
Suction power - I think it’s great, especially with the auto-detect. The vacuum also has a light on the cleaning head, which is one of those features you never think about until you use it, and then you can’t live without it.
Adaptability - This is the other big win, as you can bend the wand in half so the vacuum head slides easily under couches and furniture. With pets and kids this is a lifesaver, not having to crouch or bend over every time really saves my back.
The issues - All minor, but worth mentioning. The vacuum head snaps back into the locked upright position a little too easily. I’ve been vacuuming more than once and accidentally locked it upright, which then forces me to step on it to unlock it again. It’s an annoyance. I also found the dust canister a difficult to open if you want to empty it manually or access the filter for washing. The charging base only holds two attachments as well, so anything extra will have to sit in a drawer or get swapped in and out.
Overall - It’s a great vacuum, especially if you have pets or little ones. It has been perfect for us while moving into a new home, because the lightweight design makes it easy to haul between houses. It also works with our other similar Shark charging bases, which was a big bonus since we already own a previous, less advanced version. That means we can leave a charging base at each house and swap the vacuums around as needed.

Smart Shark

Every couple of years your vacuum needs replacing and this year was that year. I came across the shark detect and for those who have had the pleasure of owning a shark vacuum you know that they are quality devices.
I opted for the “detect” series of vacuum because it is advertised as allergen free and it has a neat self-emptying base. These are the two features that captured my attention. I would like to share my thoughts on the detect. It takes the concept of robot vacuums and added the self-emptying feature to a handheld vacuum. Essentially that means less dust in the air from less trips to the garbage can to empty the vacuum.
There is a lot to like about the shark the detect feature knows how much suction the vacuum should use kind of like it is in automatic mode with the sensors. It knows if you are cleaning a corner, it detects hardwood, linoleum or carpeted floors. It is a neat feature and I am happy to share with you that is a great feature and not a gimmick. I must admit I was a bit skeptical but it works as advertised and it works well.
While the Shark detect is a great cleaning tool there are somethings to take into consideration. The refuse cannister on the vacuum is on the small side and with that being said it is not something that will replace a traditional sized vacuum. That means you might have to make multiple rounds depending upon how much of a mess you are cleaning up. Now the refuse bin on the rechargeable base is a good size and I’d say on average I find myself emptying it about once a week. It is a simple process as well.
I like the fact that the base recharges the vacuum and there is a sleep button which will prevent it from automatically emptying the vacuum. I appreciate that greatly having a toddler who makes messes nearly all day long. It will not interrupt nap time.
There is a lot to like and very little to dislike here with the detect.
Pros:
- Self-emptying (kind of)
- Smart detect feature
- Washable filters
- Replicable batteries
- Sleep button
Cons:
- Small cannister
Overall, the shark detect is a great cleaning tool for a big family like mine. It makes lie a little easier for me and I open to things that help make my day a little easier and stress free. I am very happy with my Shark as I stated earlier there is a lot to like and very little to dislike.

I’ve been using the Shark Detect Clean & Empty cordless vacuum for a while now, and overall, I’m impressed with its performance and features.
What I Love:
• Battery Life: The battery easily lasts through my entire home (about 3,000 sq. ft.) on a single charge, which is fantastic for a cordless vacuum.
• Auto-Empty System: This is a game-changer for convenience. However, since I have dogs, I do need to empty the vacuum a couple of times when cleaning the whole house because of the extra pet hair. The base is very easy to empty as well.
• Dirt Sensor Lights: The sensor lights are helpful for knowing when an area needs extra attention.
• Edge Cleaning: The edge detect feature is brilliant. When vacuuming along walls, the lights on the edge illuminate, and the vacuum boosts suction for thorough edge cleaning.
• Breakaway Wand: Perfect for reaching under beds, dressers, and other low furniture.
• Lightweight & Easy to Use: Maneuvering this vacuum is effortless.
• Excellent Dirt Pickup: It picks up dirt extremely well, leaving floors noticeably cleaner.
• Hair Management: Hair does not wrap around the roller, which is a huge plus for homes with pets or long hair.
• Crevice Tool Storage: The crevice tool has convenient storage on the base, which is a nice touch.
Things to Note:
• I did encounter an issue where the dirt sensor stayed red. After investigating, I found a clump of hair stuck in the brush tube at the flex point. A quick blow through one end cleared it.
• Make sure to clean the inside filter regularly (see pics if you’re posting visuals). A dirty filter can affect performance.
• In Auto Mode, the vacuum adjusts suction and roller speed based on dirt levels. Sometimes it slows down too much for my liking, but you can override this by switching to Boost Mode with the mode button.
• I wish the crevice tool had brushes on the end for better versatility.
Final Thoughts:
This vacuum combines smart features with convenience. Despite minor quirks, it’s powerful, efficient, and easy to use. I’m enjoying it and would definitely recommend it to others.

I have owned cordless vacuums and also robot vacuums with a self-emptying feature, but this is the first time I have seen the self-emptying feature on a cordless vacuum. At first I wondered if it was something that I would even want on a device like this, but it ended up being a nice bonus to a very nice product.
Pros:
- Assembly is intuitive and simple. And when it comes time to disconnect/reconnect the vacuum handle to use it as a handheld, it is easy to do.
- The included attachments are very helpful. You get one attachment for corners/edges and one for upholstery. I have used the upholstery attachment in order to vacuum my carpeted stairs and it worked well.
- The vacuum charges quickly so you can easily use it several times per day as needed.
- It has an auto-detect feature, knowing when to increase vacuum power for particularly soiled spots.
- This vacuum is pretty lightweight and easy to maneuver in tight areas.
- For a battery powered vacuum, it has pretty good suction. I recommend always using it on full power when cleaning carpet, but the Eco setting will be fine for flat surfaces and will extend your battery life.
- While the docking station with the auto-empty feature isn't necessary for a product like this, I found it convenient to not have to dump the waste myself. But more importantly, I liked how the dock provides me with a place to store the vacuum. I usually have to find a place in a closet to lean vacuums like this, but now it has a permanent home where I will always know where it is and it will always be charged when I go to grab it.
Cons:
- Battery life can be limited so don't plan to use this device for super big jobs. It's meant more for smaller jobs here and there as needed. For that purpose, it's perfect! But don't plan to replace your regular vacuum if you have a medium/large home. It could work well for small homes or apartments though.
- The base/dock has a nice place to store one attachment but not both.
This Shark vacuum performed exceptionally well and I look forward to using it for years to come.

This cordless Shark has been a game changer in my household. Not because it will replace my main high-end vacuum, but because it made me want to clean my floors more often than before. Thanks to the auto-empty system, I always have an empty canister along with a full charge when I need to quickly clean up a mess or just want to spruce up the carpets/hardwood in a pinch. On top of that, it is so light that my 6-year-old son has no problem maneuvering it around the house or up/down stairs. The plan is to use this the majority of the time for most of the cleaning, but I must admit that I will break out my corded/heavy/cumbersome ‘main’ vacuum once a month. The reason being that this Shark doesn’t get as keep a clean as I prefer, perhaps due to the suction being weaker than the corded competition. I am not saying the Shark doesn’t pick up a ton of dirt, because it does. I cleaned a bedroom on the boost setting and the canister was completely full (see image). However, I did a once-over with my ‘main’ vacuum, and it still picked up a handful after already running through the room with the Shark.
I do want to point out that overall, this is a great system. When you look at the pros/cons, there are more pros: cordless/auto-empty/lightweight/versatility.

I have tested multiple Shark and Ninja products over the years, and most have been great. I have had a Shark cordless vacuum for several years and it is still going strong, with the original battery. I also have a 2024 PowerDetect self-emptying vacuum that I use every week with no issues. So, I was really looking forward to trying this new model out.
The LED lighting on vacuum head is nice especially when vacuuming under beds/cabinets– but it really doesn’t highlight the dirt on the floor (as my Dyson does). There is now an indicator on the head that shows different colors indicating level of dirt/clean as well as on the handle.
Power on/off is a button on top of the handle. Another button lets you choose between ecco (green leaf), auto (white circle) and “high” (red fan) power modes. The battery indicator on the top of the handle is four little rectangles, indicating 100%, 75%, 50% and less than 25%. Using on a mix of 60% hard floors and 40% carpet (around 1000 sq ft) it ran out of battery at 35 minutes on Auto mode – consistently. It does not lose power as charge is used – it just stops. With 6.5 hr. recharge time it is going to take a while to vacuum a larger home or apartment. The battery is detachable, so a second battery could be purchased, but it does not come with a standalone charger – must be attached to vacuum and placed in stand to charge. Battery blinks when charging – yellow (0-75%), green (75 – 100%) and solid white (full).
It is lighter than the previous 2024 model, (13.5 vs 18.4 lbs) so unit is not nearly as top heavy as my 2024 and as such not as tiring to use. The cleaning head is a good size but is also lighter and tends to bounce when using on thicker carpets/rugs, losing suction. Also, the wand is noticeably smaller/round and tends to flex at connection point to vacuum head especially when using on carpets.
It does do a nice job on hard floors, with auto dirt detection increasing suction.
Edge cleaning works well. When running along the edge of a wall/door, etc. it senses this and turns vacuum power to the edge that is along the wall. It works on either side too.
Multi-flex wand allows you to bend the long extension to 90% to allow easy use under beds/cabinets, etc.
To empty you drop the unit onto the base, and it opens the little “door” on the vacuum and sucks out the dirt into the base dust bin. It is somewhat loud when emptying but there is a “switch” on the base to not empty (just charge) to allow for “silent” docking. You can empty the handle yourself too. And they have added a clear section on base allowing you to see dirt accumulation – my 2024 does not have this.
The bagless design on vacuum and base is nice and the Hepa filter, dust cup and sensors are all washable.
2 un-powered secondary attachments, a dust crevice and a pet multi tool, are rudimentary at best. The attachments can be used without the wand, allowing close-up vacuuming.
5-year warranty on vacuum is impressive
Overall, this is just an okay vacuum in my opinion and I don’t feel it is an improvement over my 2024. Battery charge time is long and while it works well on hard floors - not nearly as well on thicker carpets. I would only recommend it if your home has more hard flooring than carpet and you want a self-emptying vacuum.

Cleans well at highest settings, but the battery dies very quickly. Good for use in small spaces but not whole home.

The vacuum is easy to assemble and comes with three attachments (though I only saw storage for one on the docking station). It's pretty light and easy to maneuver. The canister in the dock holds a lot, and I haven't needed to empty it so far (after a week). The automatic empty feature is convenient and can be turned off so the vacuum only charges. The dock holds the vacuum securely, though it needs an outlet for its features to work (within a few feet).

This is an absolutely amazing vacuum cleaner and at the sale price it is a steal! We use this vacuum cleaner on both carpeted and wood floors and it does wonders compared to our old shark vacuum. The docking station is also amazing, being able to store about a months worth of dust before emptying makes cleaning a breeze. If you have any doubts just trust me, you'll love it!

Me and my wife were looking for a lightweight vacuum since our Dyson V8 finally kicked the bucket and wow - this thing is amazing. I mean it feels incredibly high quality. Every piece can detach for simple cleaning and maintenence, plus the actual suction is incredible. Time will tell how long it will last but only great things to say for now.
