It's my first shark product, and was impress with how strongl the suction power is, glides easily on carpet and tiles around the house. The canister may be a bit small, but that's not a deal breaker.

First of all, this vacuum was pretty easy to put together and folds up nicely. The long cord is nice because I can cover quite a bit of flooring from one plug in. I generally used a stick vacuum for my hard floors, but the soft roller on this vacuum does a much better job. The stick vac would pick up the pieces, but leave a light layer of dust. This vacuum with the soft brush actually removes the dust without marking my hardwood floors. I've used many different style vacuums. This one is supposed to be low profile so that it can go under furniture. Well it still does not go under my sofa. It does get pretty low, but not quite low enough with the motorized head. I like the attachments, but find having the actual vacuum cleaner as part of the handle/head to be a bit heavy and awkward. It takes a little getting used to not leaning it against furniture or something should it fall. It does have a nice rubber bumper on it to protect your furniture, but it does not pull the dirt from close to the edge of the wall or toe kick under your cabinets. It is probably made more obvious because of the bright LED head lights. Overall, I would recommend it. Aside from getting under low furniture and getting used to the heavy head of the vacuum, I still prefer it over my stick vac. Even though much of It appears to be made of plastic, it seems to be a solid vacuum.

Assembling the Shark – Flex DuoClean HV391 Upright Vacuum seems daunting at first, a half dozen part to assemble. However after looking at the instructions you realize it is fairly simple and took me no longer than 5 to 7 minutes. The motor on this unit is on the top and is fairly light, I commented to my wife that it has the appearance of a weed trimmer. After it was assembled I immediately put it to use on a bare floor, picked up crumbs and dirt in my kitchen with ease. Initially for someone that never owned a similar vacuum it seems a little strange given that it is top heavy, however the brush and pickup are SUPER easy to maneuver. The unit did a very good job in cleaning every spec of loose particles off the floor. On carpets it does an equally excellent job, the brush mechanism seems to pull the unit forward as you use it, making for a fatigueless cleaning experience. The system comes with a few attachments which lead to a very versatile unit indeed. We are very happy with the Shark – Flex DuoClean HV391 Upright Vacuum even to the point of my wife commenting that it is better than the other leading, smartly designed vacuum we own. Pros: - self-propelled-like forward motion - excellent maneuverability - very good suction - seamlessly transitions between floor types (bare floors, over mats and carpets) - lightweight design - good on stairs - long cord - rotating brushes do not propel and redistribute particles on bare floors, sucks them all up. Cons: - difficult to stand up and store when not in use - grip area seems designed for use by people with larger hands, gets a little uncomfortable if you have small to medium hands if using for an extended period of time

Love this vacuum, only complaint is that it is top heavy so you have to fold it to prevent it from falling down if you need to stop mid-vacuum for any reason.

Just got the Flex Corded Ultra-light and I really liked it! First off the packaging was easy and convenient to open and locate all the parts. The quick start guide made assembly a cinch! I was vacuuming in no time, literally had it together and vacuuming our living room carpet in less then 10 minutes. I was impressed with all the attachments, especially the duster crevice tool, Multiflex tool and Multiflex under appliance wand. It even included an accessory bag to keep all the parts together. I was pleasantly surprised at how light the vaccum was and even more surprised how self propelled it was, which helped cleaning up considerably easier. I vacuumed the living room rug, bedroom carpet, tile floors and while I was at it started doing our carpeted stairs. It was so much easier vacumming the stairs with the Shark Flex, the width of the motorized floor nozzle was perfect for our stairs. The cord was long enough for me to do the stairs with no problem. I also cleaned our ceiling fans using the duster crevice tool, initially I was worried it would knock dust balls off the fan on to the floor or furniture but it sucked up all dust particles which was nice. My favorite thing about this product was how easy it was to empty the dirt/dust reservoir. My least favorite thing about this product was that it got hot and the more I use it the hotter it made me by way of the hot air radiating off of it. Other than that Id totally recommend this product to friends and family.

Compact and Flexible with Decent Performance

The Flex DuoClean is a pretty versatile tool. The innovative design gives it the same flexibility that other more expensive models achieve with more complicated design. This leaves you a vacuum that's close in weight to a stick vacuum, but with the versatility of some larger canister or uprights. While I was pretty impressed by the versatility and ability to reach and clean under a wide range of scenarios, this was belied by the suction performance, particularly on hardwood floors. While the performance as good, it was not great, and that's the big holdup that keep this from being a five-star review. I was quite impressed by the flexibility and cleaning attachments available with the Shark DuoClean. Between the flexible coupling, motorized heads, and under appliance extending extension wand, I'm pretty confident I can reach almost anything in my home with this vacuum. The ~10lb weight makes it great for cleaning items above floor level, especially since you'd need to lift the entire vacuum, and not some really long extension hose. You also gain that benefit over some typical canister or upright vacuums when moving up and down stairs. The flex capabilities of this vacuum also make it quite maneuverable, so it's easy to steer on floors or carpet. The motorized head design is also pretty cool. There's a rotating brush that cycles through a comb-like attachment which helps keep it from accumulating dust and hair, an issue that typically plagues motorized brush attachments. That's not to say that it's impossible, but you'd get a much longer run time between cleanings. Cleaning out the vacuum itself is a pretty easy affair and the filter design is such that it will clog less, which means suction will be consistent over many uses without requiring filter cleaning. The only downside - available suction via the normal (motorized) cleaning head on hardwood floors. The head is great for picking up most debris that ends up on rugs and floors. The design allows it to do a good job grabbing things that end up against a wall or at corners or edges. Interestingly enough, the head doesn't seem to activate unless it's actively over something to pick up. This causes an issue when the items being vacuumed are small enough not to trigger the head brush into action - like glitter! At that point, you're relying on the vacuum's suction to get the job done, and due to the head design, it just doesn't do a good enough job. Now, don't get me wrong, one could easily switch to one of the other attachments and quickly pick up stuff. However, typically, one uses such attachments when the items to be vacuumed are too bulky for the normal motorized heads or if cleaning a specific localized mess. If you just happen to be in the process of doing a normal floor vacuuming and there's things like glitter down, you'd need to remember to return for a second pass with a different head, even though the item is small enough that the normal cleaning head should be capable of picking it up. I'd still highly recommend this vacuum, particularly for apartment living and small houses (due to the size of the dust bin). If you clean often enough, this vacuum is more than adequate to the task of incremental cleaning even in large homes. I'm withdrawing one-star due to the need to plan for multiple cleanings using different heads in situations that other vacuums will handle using a single pass.
