    HUGE Mountains, HUGE requirements

First off, this game doesn't look good unless you can run the highest textures and run it at your usual desktop resolution. That means you want to downgrade to XP and have the latest NVidia drivers before you get started. I believe the latest update helped the graphics, they seem to run more smoothly now on high. I have always had an occasional frame skip but nothing that bad. In Vista, it was an every day occurance. I run this on a gaming laptop with NVidia 9800m gs. In XP, it runs great and seems to be even more smooth because I run it with an override setting of 16xAF/16xQ AA/VSync Forced ON and it looks better than when I ran it in Vista 64 in DX10 and WAY better framerates. The gameplay for me could use a boost, the tricks are hard to pull off at first. The controls are different from say SSX/Amped but after a while it becomes natural and feels like you are one with the board. One thing that makes this my favorite game and most played is that it feels like you are WAY up high on a mountain, there are lots of trees to slide down on and you never just bumb into stuff and fall as much as you would think. THey really tweaked the gameplay to make it so you can get away from it all and take a vacation from reality. A GREAT feature is that you can go anywhere at any time. You can hit start on your XBox360 controller (which has great support in this game), and go to Japan if you are bored with Alaska, for example. Each mountain has a unique look and it seems like you are going down it forever. There isn't a course like in SSX, it is more like Amped on the XBox in that you are encouraged to explore. There are lots of events that you can trigger like races, trick challenges, etc; but you wont really get to race a lot if you are more into racing. So that could be a downer for some. The half pipe can be accessed while loading levels, which is cool but I feel like there should be more ways to just do one type of thing instead of having to go down the mountain and trigger events. I guess if you want SSX, there's a free game called Project Powder that you can play online now. Sometimes events happen like Avalanches that break up the monotony. The update seems to have added more random snowboarders to make it feel like you are not alone in the weirdness so much. I usually feel the need to attack the NPCs because they are not welcome for me lol. SO being able to peg people with snowballs is a must have now. I recommend this if you like snowboarding. The medium graphics should work on lower spec machines, but you wont get the Amped look without the high textures and it looks more like PS2 game on anything less.
