As a retired police officer, situational awareness is second nature to me—and safety is always a top priority. The Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Mini absolutely nails that balance between focus and awareness. While I’m crushing my workouts in the gym, I can still hear what’s happening around me without losing the beat of my favorite playlist.
The open-ear bone conduction design lets me stay alert to my surroundings—no more worrying about someone sneaking up or equipment dropping nearby. The sound quality blew me away: deep bass, crisp highs, and all with zero ear fatigue. The fit is secure, lightweight, and perfect for long training sessions.
These aren’t just headphones—they’re a fitness safety tool for anyone who values awareness as much as performance. I use them every day, and they’ve become part of my training routine and peace of mind.
In short: phenomenal sound, unmatched comfort, and the priceless ability to stay safe and aware.
Highly recommended—especially for those who take safety seriously while pushing their limits!

I’ve owned the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Mini bone conduction headphones for about a month now, and they’ve completely changed how I listen to audio while staying active. Whether I’m running, biking, or just walking the dog, these headphones are exactly what I didn’t know I needed. They strike a near-perfect balance between situational awareness and high-quality sound, all while staying incredibly comfortable.
I opted for the Mini version because I have a smaller head and wanted a more snug fit. That choice paid off. These sit securely without ever feeling tight or shifting out of place, even during intense workouts. The lightweight design makes them easy to forget you’re wearing, and there’s no pressure on the ears like traditional earbuds. If you’re someone who’s had discomfort with in-ear or over-ear headphones during exercise, these are absolutely worth considering.
The bone conduction tech might sound gimmicky at first, but it’s actually super practical. The transducers rest just in front of your ears, which means your ear canals are open and free to hear everything around you—traffic, people, announcements at the gym. This is especially important for outdoor running and cycling where safety is a concern. I feel much more aware of my environment while still enjoying my music or podcasts.
Sound quality was my biggest concern going in, but the OpenRun Pro 2 Mini has really impressed me. For bone conduction, the audio is surprisingly rich. Bass response is stronger than I expected, and voices come through clean and clear. Are they going to compete with audiophile headphones? No—but that’s not the point. These are designed for active use, and for that purpose, they sound fantastic. I’ve taken calls with them too, and the microphone quality is solid—people on the other end had no trouble hearing me, even with some wind in the background.
Battery life is another win. I typically use them for about an hour or two each day, and I only need to charge them once a week, sometimes even less. Shokz claims 10 hours of use per charge, and that feels accurate. Even better, there’s a quick charge feature that gives you a good hour or so of playback with just a few minutes of charging. That’s saved me more than once when I forgot to plug them in the night before.
Bluetooth connection is rock solid. It pairs instantly with my phone and has never dropped mid-workout. The onboard buttons for volume and play/pause are easy to locate and use without looking, and I appreciate that I don’t have to reach for my phone to change tracks or answer a call.
Pros:
• Open-ear comfort – No pressure on ears and fits snugly, especially with the Mini size
• Situational awareness – You can hear your surroundings without losing your music
• Surprisingly good sound – Strong bass and clear vocals for bone conduction tech
• Long battery life – Easily lasts through the week with regular use
• Quick charge feature – Fast top-ups when you’re in a rush
• Reliable Bluetooth – Instant pairing and stable connection
• Lightweight and secure – Doesn’t move during intense activity
Cons:
• Sound leaks a bit at higher volumes – Not a big deal outdoors, but noticeable in quiet settings
• Not ideal in very loud environments – Background noise can overpower your audio
• Buttons can feel a little small if you’re wearing gloves – Minor issue, but worth noting
Final Thoughts:
After a month of using the Shokz OpenRun Pro 2 Mini, I’m seriously impressed. They’re well-designed, functional, and a joy to use during any kind of physical activity. If you value comfort, safety, and audio quality while on the move, these are absolutely worth the price. They’ve become a permanent part of my workout routine—and honestly, I’m not sure how I managed without them.

This Headset is super nice. The only thing is that it’s not water proof.!Water and sweat resistant. Sound is great calls on iphone may have to be reconnected after a fresh charge. The charge on it is easy 12 to. 20 hours, I started at 100 percent at 8 am and the next day at 9 am i checked it was down to 35 percent, Yes i listened and made calls all day and listened to pod cast while I slept. They are comfortable, They are not noise canceling.

I have a set of noise cancelling over the hear headphones as well as a set of noise cancelling earbuds. Between the two I very much prefer my headphones, but it can make it tough at work when I want to be able to hear when people talk to me. It also makes me seem less approachable, which can be good, but many times it can detrimental.
My wife bought these a few months ago to use at work and loves them, so I decided to try them as well. I originally bought the regular Pro 2 (not Mini) and they were too big and sat a little too loose, so I got these instead and they fit much better. They take some getting used to but are not uncomfortable, and I, like my wife, find that they are, indeed, perfect for work. Now I can hear what's going on around me when I need to while listening to music or an audio book.
Sound quality is decent considering what they are. It's a little hollow when compared to my over-ear headphones, especially with audiobook narration, but it's definitely not bad by any means. If I cup my hands over my ears the sound quality goes up dramatically, but that's to be expected.
The interesting thing is I can use these while wearing ear plugs and hear the audio from the headphones just fine, which I think will come in handy if I'm ever working on something noisy (e.g. mowing the grass) and want to listen to music or an audio book without sweating into over ear headphones profusely and still protect my hearing at the same time.
One additional note is I bought these as Open Box - Excellent, and they were in perfect shape and included everything. I'm assuming someone bought them and tried them on and didn't like the fit and returned them, just like I did with the regular Pro 2.

Great sound very very comfortable to wear for 8 hours straight. The one thing is there just not loud enough for me and my work environment. I still give it a 5 start because thats on me.

Great product, they have long battery life and when need to charge they charge fast. I’m actually wearing them at the moment. They are comfortable and the sound of them are perfect.

I absolutely love this product. The sound quality is great, and it is definitely an upgrade from the previous generation. My favorite thing about this product is that, when running, it doesn’t bounce around or make any weird noises. Lastly, being able to go for a run and not having to worry about rain/sweat is the biggest plus in my opinion!
5-star rating for sound quality is based off of similar products, this WILL NOT sound like in-ear or over-ear headphones, but still an awesome quality sound.

Great sound when you need to remain connected to the rest of the world. I use mine for walking/rucking so I can still hear traffic around me. They are also useful for listening while working around others but still need to be available. They are not extremely loud and that is kind of the point. I also like that they don't slip out of the ear while exercising.

Great for running, especially with the open ear design. Note that you can't isolate outside noise because of it, but that's actually an advantage if you want to remain aware of your surroundings. Connectivity is great; I can actually listen even if my phone is in the other room. One downside is the sound has started to be a bit "buzzy" so I'm going to contact support to see if that can be fixed.
Hi Joshua - Shokz here! We're sorry to hear you are experiencing sound issues with your Shokz. In this case, we'd suggest a manual reset of the headphones, as well as ensuring that the latest firmware version has been updated via the Shokz app. If these don't resolve the issue, all Shokz come with a 2-year warranty. Please reach out to us if you need further assistance. Thank you!

Great alternative to in ear and full ear headphones. With the upgraded version you don’t feel the vibration as much which makes it comfortable to use for several hours. Multiple devices can be connected at the same time.
The only downside is you can’t block the outside noise.

I bought my openrun pro 2 minis about three weeks ago and I have absolutely loved them! They’re so comfortable and the sound is so much better than i imagined! Going on my outdoor runs with these makes me feek safe knowing I can hear whats happening while still enjoying my music or listening to podcasts during my runs. Super happy and I have recommended them to a lot of people so far!

Wow, so comfortable. Sound is excellent. People next to you won't hear anything. Especially useful when running. Solid fit. The sound EQ's are really impressive. The vibrations on Classic mode feel tingly at the beginning but then you get used to them. I mostly have it on Standard, so no vibration. Since they are bone conducing and sit infront of the ear, you still hear everything around you, so they are safe for driving as well. Battery lasts for several days and charges quick.

Great piece of technology. I can walk around hands free and multitask. I can give my hands a rest. Its much better than speaker because there's no background noise.

This is one of the best headphones that I have purchased, and I purchased multiple, but nothing like the headphones that I received. The battery life last long it’s not in the ear, which I love the most I would recommend to anyone.

Works great. Lost my first pair ,had to have another set. Like the mini so it stays closer to my head. Supper light weight and has a good range ,where you can walk around the house without carrying your phone.
