Great non-stop action with a high body count. It's brutal and bloody but Clive Owen's "Bugs Bunny" vs Paul Giamatti's "Elmer Fudd" is fun to watch.

If you're looking for a great movie to watch just for the thrills with a lot of tongue in cheek humor to just sit back and enjoy this is one for you. Great non-stop action from start to finish.

I'd never heard about this movie until I saw a clip of it in a video essay. It's extremely entertaining and extremely fun to watch.

Just a fun movie where comedy and guns go hand in hand. Clive Owen was excellent.

What if they made a live action Bugs Bunny cartoon where EVERYBODY had guns? It'd be Shoot Em Up, and it's even better than it sounds.

It's good for a once over, but on the brutal side. The action scenes take quite a lot of artistic license which makes it both interesting, but not believable.

    Masterpiece of Mayhem

In this deliriously over-the-top masterpiece of outrageously clever mayhem, star Clive Owen is an unstoppable good-guy gunman who is given to asking the question "you know what I hate?" immediately before letting all heck break loose. Although the posters for "Shoot 'Em Up" resemble Frank Miller comic-book drawings come to life, the actual movie has more in common with the work of another comic-book great: Garth Ennis, writer of such jaw-droppingly hyper-violent heroes as Marvel's the Punisher. Owen plays Mr. Smith -- and that's probably not his real name -- a guy who is simply waiting for a bus when he gets drawn into one of the wildest, most crazy-violent action opening scenes of all time. By the time the bullets stop flying, Smith is on the run with a complete stranger's targeted-for-death baby and one heck of a lot of questions. Meanwhile, a sadistically evil genius appropriately named Hertz (Paul Giamatti) is after him with a never-ending army of hired killers. Writer/director Michael Davis has loaded the film with one unforgettably imaginative image after another: spent shell casings bouncing off a pregnant woman's stomach, a gun dropping in an unflushed toilet, a hand with bullets between the fingers shoved into a fireplace as an improvised weapon. There are showdowns, standoffs, car chases, airborne gun battles and even a shootout in a firearms factory. Best of all, the screenplay manages to both glorify in and yet subvert some of the things you'll be expecting. For example, it's a mega-body-count, blizzard-of-bullets barrage that's actually a plea for gun control at heart. Seriously. Also, although it has scenes referencing bits from movies as diverse as "Lost Highway," "The Transporter" and even "Raising Arizona" (how's that for range?), it still feels fresh and original. And there's one perfectly done little scene that's so poignant you may actually find yourself tearing up. Don't worry, though -- a hail of gunfire follows very shortly thereafter. Heck, a hail of gunfire follows shortly after EVERYTHING in this movie, usually including other hails of gunfire! Highly recommended!

Shoot 'Em Up, it's in the title!

Shoot 'Em Up is probably one of the best "shoot 'em up" style movies I have seen. If you go into this movie not expecting a great, or even good plot and you like "shoot 'em up" movies then I fully expect you will enjoy this one. It has pretty much all the different things you would find in all different types of "shoot 'em up" movies. From a huge gun fight right in the beginning where he does something interesting with a carrot to the jumping out of an airplane and have a gunfight in mid air. There really was not a lull in the movie at all.

This movie is a blast! Do not be swayed by all the negative reviews! Many people do not realize this movie is a parody of action movies, but it does it with a straight face! Amazing action scenes, non stop pace, and yes it is unbelievable, and ridiculous, over the top but, that is part of the fun that makes Shoot Em' Up such a fantastic wild ride. This was the most fun I have had at the movies in a long time. If you are a John Woo fan, you will love this. If you like nonstop action film, this will blow you away. If you like to analyze the plausibility of things, like the physics of carrots to the human head (watch the movie to understand) than maybe let this one slide. To those who get this movie, and love it like I do spread the joy. Shoot Em' Up rocks!!!!!

Fun movie, if you know what you're getting in to

In all of its ridiculousness, the movie is pretty good. From start to finish, it's a nonstop, way-over-the-top action and fun if you just want to watch it for constant gun play. It's riddled with cheesy one-liners and retorts that you can't help but smile at. If you're looking for compelling story and/or any kind of character development that you'd be used to from these actors, you'll want to try something else. But for mindless gun play, this will do the trick.

I found this movie very enjoyable, and if you like movies that have a ton of action and not neccesarily a ton of plot you'll enjoy it as well. The title is a perfect description of the movie because nearly the entire movie is a gun battle. There some moments of witty humor that made me chuckle out loud. I would definately recommend this title to anyone that just wants to enjoy a couple hours of movie watching without having to over-analyze a title.

If you like the action from the Transporter types of movies, you'll probably like this movie as well. Weak plot, but the action starts in the first few minutes and pretty much keeps it up for the whole movie. It appear it was written as a tongue-in-cheek tribute to those types of movies. The action is good and violent, and 'fun' in how unbelievable it is.

This was a highly intertaining movie. Non stop action without trying to get too deep into the story. If you want a perfect guy movie for an evening with a 6-pack and a pizza - this is it. Just pop it in and you get over an hour of a lot of people getting unrealisticly shot from all possible angles. Yes, it is stupid and unrealistic, but it a movie. And not all movies should be complicated and have a twisted plot.

Having never heard of this movie before it was released on DVD, I took a chance, and boy, did it pay off! As far as action movies go, it was great - lots of ridiculous senarios and thousands of rounds of ammo being shot in every direction. But this movie has got some GREAT one-liners from Clive Owen AND Paul Giamatti. Plus, delivering a baby while 50 guys are trying to kill you is pretty cool. Check it out!

    Obviously Nothing But Shooting

Shoot Em' Up is the most over the top action movie I have ever seen. If you are one of the people that sits and watches a movie and critique's it about it's realism. Please stay away from Shoot Em' Up. From the very opening scene to the last the over the top action just gets more over the top than the previous scene. Clive Owen kills endless men in this movie, and the ways in which it was done are completely out of this world. I give the writer of this movie credit for coming up with the ways that the bad guys die. If you would like to see a movie that contains nothing but an endless array of bullets flying everywhere from the first scene to the last. This is the movie for you. Just don't have high expectations of realism.
