This review is for the 3D version of the first Shrek movie which first came out all the way back in 2001. They weren’t making 3D movies at the time, so this one was converted later. I hadn’t seen it in 3D before, but since Best Buy was offering it for $9.99 I decided to pick it up. The quality of GCI animation has improved over the last 17 years, but this still looks pretty good.
Animated movies lend themselves well to 3D conversion, and the 3D really enhances the experience. Some of the humor seems too crude for little kids and I wasn’t a fan of the “short” jokes, but overall the movie wasn’t terribly offensive and had a lot of fun aspects to it. You’ve probably seen this movie by now but it is worth revisiting if you liked it and if you love 3D.

Comparing to previous Shrek Blu-ray releases, this Blu-Ray contains more supplementary features than ever. It even has a better cover than just Shrek's face up-close at the camera. The movie still holds up well as a Disney knock-off with twists, jokes, and memorable characters.

A classic above many other animated films. I don't remember the first time I watched this, but I knew I had to own the best version of it available. I've heard because of how the film was rendered, it's about 1080p resolution, but the steelbook and having all of the previous bonus features kinda make this the best version of the movie you can own. It's that if you already have the Blu-ray of this, it might not be worth it, unless you want to have the steelbook.

Fun movie, hadn’t seen it in a while. 4K upgrade was very nice. Lots of texture on everything now especially clothing, lots of fine detail I don’t remember seeing. Audio left a little to be desired, could’ve used a few more height effects but very good. 5 stars.

This is an incredible deal which not only comes with the first Shrek in 4K, but it also comes with a bonus Blu Ray disk that contains all the shorts the series. The only thing preventing it from getting a full 5 stars is the fact that the packaging inside is pretty poor which resulted in two of the disks being loose which resulted in scratches, One of those disks was the 4K movie. Overall it’s a good deal, but be cautious when buying it.

Classic animated family movie, definitely enhanced by 3D presentation. Only small gripe was one or two times of some small ghosting considering how old the 3D movie is. Still it’s way more entertaining in 3D, similar to the Universal Studios attraction.

The best Shrek movie. Shrek has become something of a joke in the larger internet space. A lot of people seem to forget that this original movie is actually pretty great. The design on the steelbook is neat and the film looks and sounds incredible.

No the greatest looking 4k transfer but still the best this movie has ever looked now don't get me wrong there are some beautiful shots in here that look amazing in 4k but you can see the age of the animation witch is why i always love the old Disney animated movies cause those always hold up i still love the 3d cgi animation but they will always show there age when the next new thing comes out oh well still a awesome movie and a beautiful steelbook.

The Ogre has aged, but he still looks as good as ever in 4K. The movie is still fantastic, and it is welcomed onto 4K with open arms. The computer visuals have aged a bit, but overall it still looks and sounds pretty dang good. And the steelbook is nice!

This is a really fun movie! I got the 4K after not seeing it in i don't know how many years, and never got the standard Blu Ray, and this still holds up well. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5 is because while the 4K Blu Ray looks good, there's some anti aliasing more noticeable if you look closely. But the DTS:X sounds incredible, so that's a plus. I'd stick with the Blu Ray if you can, but get the 4K if you're a super fan.

A timeless classic. This movie is great for adults and children alike, It is really nice to watch this in 4K on a 65 inch TV as compared to what I first watched it on. A 19 inch TV with a state of the art VHS presentation in stereo no less. Great movie.

What can be said about Shrek that hasn't been said before, this movie set the childhood of many 90's kids of which I am one.
4K looks outstanding and the steelbook case is gorgeous, hopefully they release Shrek 2 on Steelbook as well.

A classic movie. It would be hard for this movie not to look great in 4k, but it also was hard to improve the blu ray 1080. However, colors and resolution are vivid and wonderful to see.

Fabulous movie. Too many positives to list! The actors (voices) were fabulous matches for the characters they played. A must see for everyone. The forest is my favorite, but the sequels are great as well!

Regardless of how many times I watch this movie it just gets better. It was great the first time I saw it and hasn't diminished since the last time I saw it. Kids adore it while adults are treated to hidden little jokes which go way over a kid's head.
The 3D effect are terrific also.
