Good overall lens for aps-c camera

The Sigma 17-50mm lens is a good general zoom lens for the aps-c camera. It has a wide aperture and decent focal length. It is however a bit heavier compared to the body, so it will have some weight in the front. Overall after using this lens for a month (April 2018) I have rarely removed this lens from my camera and used it in most situations.

I'm a full time video producer / still shooter, and I like to take stills and video on my Canon 7D mkii when I'm not shooting on big work cameras. This lens is excellent, sharp, fast, the image stabilization is a huge plus. Great all purpose lens for run & gun style shooting. The auto focus is loud when shooting video, but hopefully you're recording audio externally or manually focusing if you're trying to record sound off the camera's mic. Being able to not worry about variable aperture while punching in when filming video is great. Can't beat the price.

I purchased the Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 as a replacement for my kit lens. I did a lot of extensive research before this purchase. I was looking at Canon's version of this lens but decided not to purchase it because it was older, double the price, and had a lot of complaints of the image stabilization breaking after a few years.
I really like using this lens, the fixed aperture makes it nice so when I zoom in and out I don't have to toggle with the settings. The picture quality is sharp too. I would recommend this to anyone looking to replace their kit lens, or for anyone looking for a decent fast zoom lens. For the price I paid for the Sigma, I could have purchased two of Canon's version.
Also it comes in a nice case with a lens hood. :)

This Sigma lens was a great purchase that certainly met my needs. I was looking for a lens with a flexible zoom range as well as a relatively low f/stop that didn't cost an arm and a leg. This lens was just under $400 so it was budget friendly and gave me what I was looking for in a new lens. I absolutely love it.

more range than a kit lens, a constant aperture, and image stabilization makes this lens a must have for any beginner. It is noticeably better than a kit lens. I've used this for photo and video work in professional settings with great results. A nice walking around lens for sure. Sigma is a great brand and I stand by all of their products.

I bought this lens and waited a few weeks for it to come in. I returned it about an hour after I picked it up. Like others, I was surprised and disappointed that it rattles when shaken. I had hoped this problem had been corrected. I don't think it would interfere with taking videos or photos, but to me it's an indication that something is just not right. I took a few low light photos and the lens worked quite well, although it was a bit slow to autofocus. I took some video and the quality was also very good, but again, it is slow to focus in autofocus mode. But the noise it makes as it is hunting to focus is very unacceptable. Before ordering the lens I called Sigma and asked if this noisy autofocus problem had been resolved. The answer was that it had never been a problem and that it is no noisier than any other lens. I sure had my doubts based on many reviews that I read, but I went ahead and bought it anyway, a bit of a gamble as just about everyone charges a restocking fee (the lowest I found was ten percent at Best Buy). I was reassured that it is no noisier than my Canon zoom lens. This answer is not even close to accurate. The grinding and clicking noises are very loud and completely unacceptable. I considered keeping the lens just for photography rather than for videography, but that just won't work for me. If it works for you, I would say give this lens a try. I deducted two stars because of the noise and another star because of the absolute false information I was given when I called Sigma. That is just awful customer service. I was either intentionally lied to, or this person had no clue what he was talking about. Either way, it's very bad customer service. This autofocus noise PROBLEM persists. It may not matter if you are taking videos of a loud sports event. Otherwise, I would strongly advise using another lens for videography unless for some reason that I don't understand, you don't care about the quality of the sound you get in your movies.

Works really well in low light. My next upgrade will be a great working camera that I can attach this beauty on. it’s very solid and heavy duty feeling. It’s pretty silent as well which is a plus.

I wanted to get away from using my kit lens because it is, in almost cases, an vastly inferior product to an after market lens. This is an incredible lens. Solidly built, good clarity, and the range of 17-50 is equivalent to 27mm-80mm on my Canon, providing me with a pretty good range at f/2.8 aperture. I liked this lens so much, I also bought one for my Sony. It is my go-to lens for every day use.

This lens has become my go-to/day-to-day lens and has entirely replaced the kit lens and a 24mm prime. If you're going to upgrade your gear, start here.

This purchase was my next step in replacing the kit lenses that came with the camera. Could have gone with the name brand, for twice the price, but decided to try this one first. No issues. Glad I made the decision.

I purchased the lens to provide a wider angle for landscapes. I have only used it one weekend and did all of my shooting hand held. So far I am very satisfied with the results and am anxious to see how it will perform using a tripod and mirror lock up (as I should for landscapes).
I use the lens on a Canon 50D. I have two Canon L lenses and don't anticipate the same quality of image.

Good quality, nice and sharp but the auto focus is very noisy. If you want to use it for photography is ok, but for video have to improve your audio. Just don’t place the microphone close to the lens.

better value than canon brand, you do lose a bit on the long end but at a constant appature, it serves its purpose as an every day lens.
Especially like the small size, as long as full frame is not in the immediate future, why not lose the bulk and enjoy the mobility.
