Sylvia Fox is divorced, a career mid-level diplomat with multiple overseas assignments, and a senior British, MI6 spy. She is also at odds with a political decision that sacrifices her overseas team. She is not happy with her life and needs a break. Her niece’s wedding in Italy provides the perfect scenario for a leave of absence. Perfect until a body appears, the groom disappears, and connections to Italian criminals begin to appear. Did I mention Ms. Fox is also skilled with weapons and self defense techniques and perfectly willing to exploit MI6 resources inside and outside Italy. There is also a handsome Italian Capitano of police. The results are mysteries involving murder, blackmail, an archaeological dig and a truffle pig. She also buys and starts restoring a house in Panicale. Very well written scripts. Excellent acting. Vistas of countryside that help explain why so many historic artists come from Italy and/or paint Italian scenes. Excellent attention to detail. The truffle pig is a nice new twist, too. This season comprises three, feature length mysteries plus a brief bonus piece. In my opinion, one of the best recent new British mysteries.
