This Simmons 10” Memory Foam mattress is replacing a decades old innerspring mattress in our guest room that was suffering from uneven wear, sagging, noise, and poor support. Its medium firmness is ever-so-slightly squishier than our 15-year old ‘extra firm’ memory foam mattress in the master bedroom, but in a good way.
We’re using it on a box spring for now, just for the extra height, but this mattress doesn’t require a foundation; it can be placed directly on a platform bed or over support slats spaced at most 2” apart with a head-to-foot center support with at least one central leg extending to the floor. If the slats are farther apart than 2”, a solid surface like ¾” plywood must be used between the mattress and slats. Using any other type of inadequately supported foundation that doesn’t fit these specifications could result in damage to the mattress and would void the warranty (10 year limited).
The mattress ships rolled up in a box and vacuum sealed in a large plastic bag. The double/full-sized one weighs about 60 lbs; so I was able to maneuver it around on my own, though it’s a good idea to recruit an extra set of hands/muscle if you have back issues. Included in the box is a plastic cutting tool, like a letter opener, that you can use to cut the bag open. Unrolling and removing the mattress from the bag was fairly easy; I recommend cutting a strip off near to the edge of the bag so that you don’t damage your new mattress. The bag can then also be reused to wrap up your old mattress for disposal, as this is required in many municipalities.
After the bag is opened, the mattress starts to expand very quickly, and while you can sleep on it within only a few hours, it won’t reach its full height and designated firmness until about 24 hours later. However, even after several days, the final height of the mattress was slightly under the stated 10 inches by about ¼”. There’s also a bit of off-gassing initially resulting in a mild chemical smell that is part and parcel to all memory foam products. While I typically find that this smell disappears after a few days, after a week and a half on this mattress there’s still a little odor that is lingering, so I suggest keeping the door to the bedroom open and using an air purifier fitted with a VOC filter to help dissipate it more quickly.
As for the sleep experience, it is wonderful. The medium firmness gives a little, though I wouldn’t call it plush; just enough so that my body makes a slight indentation whether I’m sleeping on my back, side, or stomach. I tend to change sleep position often through the night these days, and the mattress lets me adjust my body position as needed without making me feel trapped in a pit. For reference, I weigh about 125 lb, and this mattress does not have any weight limit. In fact, Simmons states that the foundation would give out first before any damage would come to the mattress. As for edge support, when I sit on the sides of the bed, it compresses about half its height, though it doesn’t make me feel like I’m about to slide off.
I usually sleep pretty warm, so I was happy to find that the upper layer, featuring Climate Cool moisture wicking gel foam, helped draw away heat from my body, keeping me cool and dry through the night. If you are the opposite and like to use heating pads or blankets, just know that this is not recommended on memory foam mattresses as it can cause damage to it. There is a motion isolation layer between the memory foam and base layer that absorbs surface movement between sleepers that works really well, so you won’t feel the jostling and movement of your bedmate (or they you). The best part is that it is completely silent. With no moving parts inside and a solid/rigid foundation, nothing moves or squeaks and most movement on top is absorbed by the mattress before it ever transfers to the bed frame itself.
The mattress ships with a cover over the foam that is not to be removed, as doing so will void the warranty. However, this cover isn’t waterproof nor considered a mattress protector, so if you want to guard it against spills and stains, you can add one over top. The existing cover can be spot cleaned with mild detergent and cold water, which works pretty well as mine shipped with a small black smudge that I was able to wipe off with a damp sponge. As for care and maintenance, the mattress is designed to never require flipping, though rotating is recommended to even out wear.
Overall, this mattress provides me a great night’s sleep that leaves me feeling refreshed and energized the next morning. It is supportive with a decent firmness that’s neither too hard nor too soft, and it is compatible with many contemporary bed frames and foundations including adjustable bases. I look forward to using it for years to come and might just start sleeping in the guest room more often.

I'm reviewing the Twin size mattress for our teenage kid, who's very pleased with it.
The mattress arrived in a box, packaged in vacuum seal.
The box itself is fairly light and easy to carry upstairs.
Once I cut off the plastic bag, took the mattress out of it before it regained much air.
Because it arrived in the afternoon, left it air overnight.
It appears it might take a full day to fully regain its normal shape.
Once fully in-shape it's sturdy and fairly thick (About 10 inches).
Like other memory foam mattresses, most of the mattress is 'standard' foam at the bottom of the mattress. Then there is a middle layer of sturdier material and the gel memory foam is the top layer.
The cover around the mattress is thick and has a built-in zipper, and it feels very breathable.
Like in every other mattress we have, we always add a mattress cover.
After a few nights, our kid is happy to report that had good night sleep and the mattress is very comfortable, reminding of 'The Princess And The Pea' level of comfort, so that's a success.
Although I expected a thicker memory foam, the end result works well, with a good balance between softness and support.
Also note the mattress is made (Or at least assembled) I the USA.
Also note that the foam emits some odor of the first few days. The is comparable to every other memory foam mattress we bought over the years, and other mattresses took a lot longer than this to stop smelling. It's not too bad after the first or two days however, and normal for this type of product.
Once placed in the bed, it looks just like in the product images.
Overall we're happy with this mattress, being thick overall and easy to unpack.

Fantastic - Kids Love It

So we got this to replace a kids mattress. So far two of our kids have slept on it and are very happy. They keep taking turns. So like many mattresses these days, this one comes in a box. When yuo open the box the mattress is shrink wrapped quite well. The instructions walk you through how to unwrap it and remind you it can take a little time for it to fully expand to its full size. I have seen a few other posts on here about the mattress not quite reaching the full 10” but ours is the full 10”. The instructions also let you know that the memory foam smell can linger for a few days but eventually will go away. Honestly we did not notice any smells at all. The picture is one of our kids about 10 minutes after we opened it. He could not wait for us to even move it into the bedroom.
Comments from the kids after several nights of sleep, they like the firmness and do not sink as much as they used to in the other mattress. So for now this is a homerun with the kids.

At first I didn't think I was going to like this bed. I had been used to sleeping on a mattress that was literally 50 years old. I sank into this the moment I laid on it. But, I've been using of for a number of weeks now and I'm really enjoying it. I look forward to going to bed because I can now sleep comfortably.

Review for
Simmons 10" Medium Memory Foam Mattress - White
There are a number of mattress companies popular lately for their online sales that come directly to you compressed and ready to set up. I was surprised and pleased to see that Serta/Simmons had introduced their own line.
I got this mattress in a full size and was amazed that it came in such a small box. Unboxing it was easier than lugging a full size mattress upstairs. It came well wrapped and it was VERY flat once unrolled. After unrolling it and carefully cutting the airtight bag, it began to expand. Within a few minutes it was almost full size. By the next day it was fully expanded.
I tested the edge and thought it was too soft to sleep on, but laying on it changed my mind! It had a nice, but firm give to it. I felt fully supported by it and tried it out the a few nights later. (Full disclosure, Simmons is very upfront that the mattress will smell for a few days after it’s opened, and it did. Nothing too awful, but not ready to be slept on right out of the box! Within a few days , the smell was gone.)
I found that the foam was so supportive, that I didn’t toss nearly as much as I normally do. I’m sleeping better on it than any mattress I’ve had in years!

I had read comments about issues with the matress not expanding so I was prepared to do this correct. I unboxed the matress as soon as it arrived. I did not lay on the matress for about 72 hours to give it time to do it’s thing. During this time I was seeing very little progress So I brought a space heater into the room to give it some help as I read that warm spaces are best while it expanded. There was still no progress after 7 inches. Once everything was said and done the midde of my mattress hits about 9 inches but the corners are still at about 7 inches. I even tried rolling around on it to try to make any air or whatever disperse. The bed is comfortable, but I paid for a 10 inch bed. My main concern is that the quality is not going to last as long due to the reduce inches. I am disappointed with my new bed.

Great foam mattress delivered right to your door

This mattress is a great memory foam mattress. I got the twin size and it came in a box that was easy enough to move around and while it had some decent weight to it, it wasn’t a problem for me to move myself.
When I upgraded my bed to a queen, I tried a couple different mail order mattresses and while this one doesn’t have all the gimmicks of the others, it is really pretty comparable to the many of the other brands that have become a staple of this industry.
Unwrapping was pretty easy and it self-inflated pretty quickly. It didn’t inflate 100% right away and it took a day or so to get to its full size and feel. It was usable that night, but the sheets did have a bit of extra room in them that filled out by the next night. That being said, all foam mattresses are a bit floppy and hard to move around compared to a spring mattress and this one is no different. Open it near where you are going use it just to save yourself a bit of effort trying to move the mattress around.
This is being used by my daughter who says its comfortable to sleep in, but a little harder than her old bed. I chalk this up to both her old bed being old and saggy, as well as her being very small and light. When I tried it, I thought it was a bit softer than our other foam mattresses and I’m sure it will feel even softer as it absorbs a bit of body heat through the night. I would rate it a bit on the softer side for medium, but I’m not an expert with any real guidelines on what counts as medium, soft or firm.
At 10 inches this is a bit thicker than some twin sized mattresses. We originally thought to put it in our bunk bed to discourage jumping, but it was tall enough we felt less comfortable with it being that high up the railings so we are using it with a box spring at the moment. Our box spring support placement is a bit wide, so I am thinking of getting a platform bed frame to use with this bed also. The frame was already something I was thinking about so it works for me, but if you go with this bed you may think about something other than using an old boxspring from a spring mattress set. If not you will need to do what I am doing temporarily and put a piece of plywood between the mattress and the boxspring. Simmons’s website states that if you don’t use a slat system with spaces 2” or less apart and you get damage from the improper support, that you void the warranty. So, user beware on what you put it on.
My final thought is that this bed is fantastic if you have a problem with bed jumping. You really can’t with this bed. Instead of jumping, you just sink into it and won’t bounce. On the other hand, it seems to make a better landing pad if you have multiple beds next to each other, so you’ll have to decide for your setup if this is a good thing or not.
Overall I am very happy with this mattress.

Comfort in all sleeping positions

Overall, I am satisfied with this Simmons mattress. My time spent sleeping on this mattress has met more Pros than Cons. Starting with the positives, The Simmons Medium Memory Foam Mattress feels form-fitting and comfortable. My hips being a few inches wider than my waist creates an uncomfortable gap that would end up hurting my ribs and spine when side-sleeping on my previous mattress - this is a big reason why I wanted a new one. I was looking for something between Firm and Plush/Soft so I thought the “Medium” mattress was right up my alley. Fortunately for me, this is what I needed. I move around a lot in my sleep so I’m a side, back, and stomach sleeper. I’ve found comfort in all positions when my old mattress was really only comfortable while sleeping on my back.
There are two concerns I have about this mattress. Although the mattress is supposed to be 10” in height, it only reached 9” on the corners and 9 ¼” on the outer middle areas. This mattress is comfortable enough even with a 1” loss, but it makes me think the material is not performing to its maximum potential if it’s compressed by about 10% and for that, I docked a star. The last concern I had is that there are two small smudge stains on the mattress right out of the box, each about the size of a quarter. I noticed the smudges as I was removing the plastic covering. At the end of the day, the smudges are not a deal breaker.
The mattress does have a “factory” smell out of the box. My husband did not notice the smell but my olfactory sense is particularly sensitive so I could smell the mattress for about a week, the smell got on my clothes as well. Now I can only smell the mattress if I actually put my nose to it so it’s definitely dissipating and I hope it goes away completely over time. It wasn’t an awful smell to begin with in my opinion, this is just something to keep in mind if you’re sensitive to smells.
I like my new mattress and I’m pretty happy with it. I hope to continue finding comfort in this mattress for years to come. So far, so good.

We got this mattress for my 9 year old daughter. It expands quickly out of the box, has very little off-gassing (smell) compared to other memory foam mattresses, toppers, and pillows I've ordered in the past, and is comfortable to my daughter. She was able to sleep on it the day we received it. Time will tell how well the mattress holds up and how long it lasts.
While I would not normally order a mattress in a box without being able to lay on one first, for my daughter, I was willing to give this a shot and so far we have been pleasantly surprised.

I got this mattress for my daughter who absolutely loves it. She had a conventional spring mattress before this one and she sleeps much more soundly and longer than before. It has been a very nice upgrade for her and the rest of us as having a less cranky child in the morning is absolutely preferred. It came in a large orange box and was tightly wrapped in a vacuum bag and cellophane to keep it rolled. It even included a nice cutting tool to easily and safely get it out of the bag. Once breaking the vacuum seal, it immediately starts to return to its normal shape, and within minutes was already most of the way to its full size. I could immediately tell that it is a very high-quality mattress, it feels plush, and the materials are very nice and thick. The instructions say that it can be slept on right away, and only warned that there might be a small foam smell and it would take 24 hours or so to take on its full shape. I did not notice any adverse smells at all and by the next day it was indeed the full 10” thick. My 5-year-old gives it two thumbs up and that is all I could ask for. We are very happy with it and highly recommend it.

I have to admit, I was skeptical. I always got my mattresses from the box stores, at a premium cost. When I dragged this mattress inside the house I didn't think it would be up to par. I was wrong.
We are putting this mattress in a spare bedroom for guests. The box, while heavy isn't too much for someone to shove around. I dragged it in the spare bedroom and unloaded it. There was a slight chemically smell, nothing crazy but noticeable. The bed took about 2 full days to fully plump up. Once ready, I threw it on the and put some clean sheets on and waited for bed time.
We have a king size traditional pillow top on the bed in our master bedroom, I remember the first few days maybe weeks I had issues getting used to the new bed. I can honestly say I slept soundly on the Simmons 10" mattress for 4 days straight. I didn't wake up with any aches or pains and I didn't wake up in the middle of the night too hot, it was actually the opposite as the mattress kept me very comfortable. The 10" height may seem thin but this might actually be a good mattress for an elderly or disabled person due to it not sitting very high off the bed frame.
I am very happy with this mattress and although I've only slept on it a few nights I am debating on gettin an additional mattress for our master bedroom. Highly recommend it!

Great Medium Firmness Mattress For a Good Price.

This is the third "mattress in a box" I have tried and it's very convenient to have it delivered to your door. I opted for the Queen size and while the box is heavy, it is manageable. Once the mattress was let out of it's compressed bag, I let it sit for 24 hours to fully regain it's shape. It did have a slight chemical smell right out of the plastic, but after the 24 hour period the smell was mostly gone.
The mattress is a medium firmness and this is accurate. You don't sink way down in it, nor do you feel like you are sleeping on a piece of plywood with a 1" topper. I move around a lot when I sleep and seem to sleep less restlessly with this mattress. For the price I think this is a great option if you don't need anything unusual and just want a solid night's sleep. Thumbs up.
