Mattress in a box – who knew? I have seen a few advertisements but I must admit that I was skeptical, of purchasing a mattress in a box, online! But considering overall quality (looks nicely put together), cost (just more than half of our last mattress), ease of purchase, delivery and unpacking/setup - what’s not to like? After spending months trying to decide on our last mattress this is a great option and time saver. I found the mattress to be very comfortable, but a tad firm initially. It was too firm for my wife, so we added a padded mattress cover, and she was very happy then. We received the queen size, and I didn’t weigh box but guesstimate over 50 or so pounds. Box had holes to help lift/move a round which I was able to do by myself. In my haste to unbox I didn’t take a picture of mattress before unrolling but it looks like a cinnamon roll. I put the mattress on the end of the bed, cut open the plastic wrap and unrolled – repeating until mattress was fully extended. We did place it on top of a box spring, which is suggested, but it states it can be used without. After unrolling it was about half its ending height. We left it to “rest” for a couple of hours, like waiting for dough to rise. I was concerned about the corners, but it ended up fully “formed” with everything looking normal. It is about 7/8 of the height of our old mattress so the sheets are a tad loose, but really a non-issue. The look of it is nice. Construction is foam with 2 inches of gel on top. It cannot be “flipped” due to design, but it states it should never “cave” (those indentations that look like a ghost is lying in the bed). As I stated I was very content sleeping on it, even the 1st night. But as my wife reminded me, I could probably sleep standing up – which served me well in my traveling days. Has a 10-year limited warranty. Overall, I am now sold on these mattresses in a box and will look to purchase when our other mattress needs replacing. Great alternative to “normal” mattresses.

    - haven’t had new mattress for quite while, the one I previously own it’s more than 8 years old! but it’s comfortable mattress. so I never bothered to even upgrade it, I didn’t think my new mattress would come from tik tok girls who decide to partner with simmuns to create this design - the design. this one is alright doesn’t fully hit it for me, you wouldn’t want to use a thin bed sheet cover because the design would still be seen through. I have the queen size about 10” tall it’s medium firm, first time laying on this mattress it felt amazing, memory feels like the shape of your body just sinks in and gives you this comfortable feeling, after 2 weeks of use my body has gone used to this mattress and the whole memory foam effect from the start seems to not feel it anymore. - but I can definitely tell that I don’t feel like this mattress gets warm like my older one, that’s one of the issue I was having with my older mattress I feel like I gets tiny bit warm that I end up switching, with simmuns mattress seems like I move less and get more sleep. also sometimes I just prefer not having pillow with this new simmuns mattress and I could still be comfortable with no issue. - I decided to get 10” because that’s the height that I previously had, but after two weeks I should have gotten atleast 12”, having memory foam mattress it’s a lot slimmer, so it actually feels lower than my older 10” mattress now im trying to get use to being having a much lower mattress - so far my sleep has gotten better with simmuns mattress, I don’t think I would ever go back to older type of comfort, the design I guess I get it since they partnered with some tik tok girls, and I guess they trying to sell this to their online fans. it’s a great mattress but the design could be better

I was looking for quality memory foam mattress as our old mattress started wearing out after 10 years use. We got Simmons Charli & Dixie 10" MD Memory Foam Multi-Colored Mattress. It came with in a box with tightly wrapped up plastic cover. Setup is easy and I have removed all plastic wrapper and put the bed on the box. Within 4 hours entire bed fully straightened out. I was blown away with look and feel of this mattress and it is impressive design by Charli & Dixie. It has very modern look and it is very comfortable to sleep. We have been sleeping on this mattress for more than a week and it feels great without any body pain. This mattress is very soft and provides smooth feeling for comfortable sleep. It has 2 inches of soothing gel memory and provide excellent results while sleeping. This mattress exceeded my expectations offering very modern look, built by quality materials and provides outstanding results. If you are looking for quality memory foam mattress, get this one without any hesitation.

I was very hopeful when I first received this mattress. I was excited to receive a nice memory foam mattress that could help me sleep more comfortably. I was quickly disappointed after just a few nights. The mattress comes rolled up and air compressed in a plastic bag. Once you remove it from the bag it takes about 15 minutes to fully expand. That is relatively fast compared to some memory foam mattresses in the past. Once it is fully expanded it does not look very thick and it is not very firm. Once you lay on it, it completely sinks down to the box spring. It does not hold up very well. I am a heavier person (220lbs) and maybe a lighter person will have a better experience. But I just cannot get used to a mattress that sinks this bad. I will be getting a mattress topper in hopes to help this issue, but for now I am not too happy with this upgrade.

I was one of those who had trouble with the term “mattress in a box”. What I knew to be a good mattress couldn’t be placed in a box. Well, Simmons has a little something to say about that, and let me just say, goes to show how much I know. Upon unboxing this thing, the first thought was that the box isn’t even that big. The mattress comes air-sealed and compressed, rolled up all nice and neat. Simmons includes a zip blade helping you cut the plastic open without damaging anything. Open it up and the magic begins. The mattress begins to expand as it takes in air. It didn’t take long for it to get to size. Just to make sure, I let it sit for about an hour or so before placing it, covering it, and laying on it. This is a comfortable mattress that more than fits what you expect from a memory foam mattress. It conforms to the body and has a great built-in base providing consistent support with comfort. When more than one person is on the mattress, movement is isolated and quiet to the other individual. I must say, I was quite amazed at how well this mattress performed considering its price point. One thing of note: you must place this mattress on a solid surface. It doesn’t perform well on a traditional box-spring and is recommended for a solid surface as its base. I highly recommend this mattress to those who are looking for comfort and performance on a budget. Here is the kicker, if you buy it in store, you can probably drive it home yourself.

I have to admit that I was a bit skeptical of how comfortable this Simmons Charlie and Dixie memory foam mattress was going to be because it came in a box. Boy was I wrong. I got the full mattress and have been impressed by it. I am five foot 10 inches and weigh 175 lbs and this mattress has been wonderful the last 2 weeks that I have it. It wasn't very heavy and it comes in a box that is easy to drag and lift if you live by yourself and don't have any help carrying it. Once I opened the box, I noticed that it comes with a letter opener device that you use to cut through the plastic that wraps the mattress. Once I freed the mattress, I let it expand and breathe for a whole day before I put the sheets on it. You only need to let it expand for 2-3 hours, but I let it breathe longer to get rid of some the plastic and foam smell. The smell wasn't horrible, but I am sensitive to smells. I got this mattress to replace an 8 year old Sealy. I was very impressed on the first night sleep and as I said earlier I was skeptical. The mattress is firm but very comfortable because of the memory foam. I haven't slept this well in at least 4 years. If you are looking for a very reasonably priced mattress that delivers in comfort, then you need to give this Simmons memory foam mattress a shot.

    I'm Welcoming A Great Night's Sleep Again

If you have been shopping for a new bed, then surely you are aware that the variation in prices for a mattress is insane. Various bed-in-a-box companies have now flourished and have driven prices down (with a few exceptions), and now many larger bed companies are bringing in competing products for market dominance. I think that it is difficult to evaluate a bed in a way that transfers reliably from one person to another. So I don't think I can fully recommend or hate this mattress in some universally understood way. Instead: here are some of my thoughts. (1) Innerspring and foam mattresses feel fundamentally different when you lie down - I think that both are desirable and I have no preference for one over the other. The mechanisms for support are radically different and the support you receive will vary. I think that foam mattresses feel more attached and contoured to my body than innerspring mattress - and I find that foam mattresses feel slightly more firm than their corresponding innerspring buddies. (2) I think that "memory foam" is a catch phrase and doesn't have a recognizable meaning now - this is a foam mattress that gives me uniform support without remembering (?) a form or outline of my body over any time - and surely that is a good thing. This is a mattress that provides uniform support and has been made to withstand years of nightly pressure. This isn't a mattress that reacts like some pillows or shoes with memory foam support - even if the internal foam is of a similar manufacture. (3) Any new quality mattress that you buy will revolutionize your sleep if you are are currently sleeping on an old and unsupportive mattress. This mattress changed my sleep quality in an instant because my old bed was VERY old - I should have upgraded years ago. & (4) What this Simmons mattress is offering is the the convenience and comfort of the many expandable bed-in-a-box options you have at a very low price. Some terribly reviewed foam (and innerspring) mattresses can run you $3000-$5000. Most foam mattresses are going to be sporting about the same technology, though, and this one is gunning to undercut the market price. In short: I'm sure there are better foam bed-in-a-box mattresses out there, but this one is very fine and very inexpensive. I also think that foam mattresses feel firmer than their innerspring counterparts but there are people out there who would disagree - but keep that in mind if you are considering a move to a foam mattress from an old innerspring mattress. Pleasant dreams.

    Great Upgrade for our Daughter

We picked this up for our daughter to replace a bargain level, basic coil spring mattress that we’ve had for a few years. We noticed that her quality of sleep wasn’t as great - she’d stay up later and wake up sooner, always looking tired. We have a memory foam mattress ourselves, so we gave this a shot and we’re glad we did. The mattress showed up in a larger cardboard box, wrapped in a vacuum-sealed covering. After opening the box and rolling out the mattress, we let it inflate and shape itself. It only took a few minutes and it looked just as solid as the older mattress it was replacing. When my daughter got into bed the first night with it, she immediately said, “Oh, this one doesn’t squeak” which I took as a good sign. She described it as sleeping in a hug, which could also have something to do with the flannel sheets and it being cold outside. She’s had it for a few weeks now and we’ve noticed that she’s sleeping better. She’s even told us that she doesn’t wake up in the middle of the night rolling over or tossing around like she used to. It’s the kind of moment when, as a parent, you realized what the kid was dealing with and not saying anything. All in all, I’m glad we got this. I’m not sure if these mattresses will last as long as the older coil ones, but I’d much rather her sleep better and longer.

    Great Support Individually, Not Together

This mattress gives excellent support to an individual sleeper. It conforms to body shape and gives a very comfortable sleep for either side sleeping or back sleeping, no aches or pains upon waking. Neither me nor my spouse are stomach sleepers, so I can't comment on that. It doesn't seem to sleep any cooler or hotter than my conventional inner spring mattress. It does a good job of isolating my partners movements so when I'm on my side of the bed I don't even know if my partner is tossing and turning. One negative - if we're laying right next to each other, then we crater together into a valley - the individual support disappears. (Our combined weight is only 300 lbs.) So you have to have a little distance between you and your partner for a comfortable, supported sleep.

    Comfortable, but a bit soft

Ignoring the cutesy marketing gimmick of "Charli and Dixie," apparently targeting teen girls, this is a comfortable mattress if you prefer a softer bed. Unpacking the mattress is simple enough, although like all mattress-in-a-box offerings, it's deceptively heavy. After releasing it from the shrink-wrap bag, it slowly expands into its full size. It took most of the night for it to completely expand. Simmons recommends letting it air out to dissipate the escaping VOCs. While this sounds good, after a week the VOC smell is still there, and it's unclear how long it will take to disappear fully. This is my reason for not giving it a five-star rating. The bed is quite comfortable for sleeping. The cooling gel keeps the mattress at a comfortable temperature. It was easy to go to sleep and stay asleep, with no detectable pressure points or other issues. Overall, an excellent mattress if you don't like a firmer bed. Assuming, of course, that the VOC smell goes away sometime soon.

Fantastic! Came in a nice amount of protection ( plastic wrap + a box). Unrolled mattress and setup in less than 10 minutes. Gave it time to get air, took about a day and it was completely ready! The mattress is incredibly comfortable. It is on the softer side.

I'm very pleasantly surprised for a mattress that comes in a box that it's actually firm and comfortable after it's setup. First of all, the box it comes in is heavy duty and arrived undamaged and is a little heavy but not terribly heavy. Most people should be able to handle it but having help definitely makes moving it a lot easier. Once you have it in the room, getting it out is simple and it came with a letter style opener that makes opening the plastic easy. Once unwrapped, the mattress springs up and blooms pretty quickly. Mine took about an hour maybe two to fully bloom but once it did, it filled in and looks nice. After sleeping on it a couple of weeks, I can honestly say that I seriously love it more than my $1500 hybrid mattress! It's firm yet plush at the same time and I woke up in less pain than my hybrid (which is only a year and a half or so old). I was stunned for it only being a 10" mattress being so comfortable. I'm normally a sleeper that gets hot half way through the night and that was not an issue on this mattress either and I experienced no pressure spots unless I reclined the bed. At first I didn't like the fact that the sides didn't have extra support for when you sit on the edge but I'm actually glad that it doesn't - this is the problem with my current mattress that makes it un-comfortable by the way! Basically, it's a plush and it feels nice 6 inches from the edge. Because the edges are firm, you end up feeling like you're constantly pushed toward the middle of the bed so it's uncomfortable if you're a side sleeper. This mattress is NOT like that, and I'm a side sleeper that really likes the feel of this one because of that. Again, I didn't like that edge at first but now I know that is the issue with my current one and not an issue with this one. I'll be letting the kids use this one as they don't have the adjustable base, and will be finding a Simmons that is made identical to this but just thicker - which I know now I will like a lot. Having tried this, my doubts about these kinds of mattresses are gone and Simmons lives up to it's name. The technology has come a long way and it is very durable and comfortable. The only minor thing I can say that's good to be aware of is 10" is not nearly enough thickness for an adjustable foundation and a larger adult (which I'm pretty certain this mattress was NOT designed with that in mind). The reason it's not enough is when you recline, all your weight gets put in one area so you can actually can start to feel the foundation through pressure spots. Again, according to the documentation/instructions it's not really stated it can't be used on one other than it should be on a fixed foundation/flat surface. If you have a flat foundation or kids/teens or want to use this in a guest room with a flat foundation this mattress would be perfect! I'd definitely recommend it for anyone who's a side sleeper who doesn't care about having a reclining base.

The Simmons and Charlie Dixie 10" memory foam mattress is awesome! It comes tightly packaged in the large box. Once the plastic is cut, it takes about an or or so for the mattress to expand. Once once it's done, it's ready to be enjoyed. I slept on the mattress for about 2 weeks now, and I am a believer now! It's so comfortable. I don't know why I never gave this mattress type a shot before.

Setup: The mattress came in a box. Took it out and cut the bag open with the included cutter. It worked ok so I just used scissors to speed the process. Then I unfolded it and let it sit to expand. About 4 hours. Then put on the box spring. Use: I thought it was going to be more plush but indeed it was really firm. After several nights it remains firm. For me that is still good but the mattress it replaced was more plush. Overall the best mattress in a box I have ever used. Cons: The height is lower than the mattress it replaced so was time to get used to. The description of comfort does not match the product. Meaning plush in description means more firm. The one corner looks a little dented so that did not work itself out from sitting in the box. Sheets do not fit as well since the mattress height is shorter.

This is a very comfortable mattress. I'm 6'2", 220lbs, and my wife is 5'4" and 130lbs. We had zero issues with sleeping on it. We have had many comfortable nights of sleep on it. It arrives in a very small box. It was hard to believe a mattress was in there. It takes about 5-6 hours to fully un-compress and actually be a usable mattress. It does have a bit of a chemical smell at first, but goes away after a day or two. One thing I was disappointed about it is that this is supposed to be a 10" mattress, and even after a couple weeks it only expanded to about 9". Our previous mattress was around 13" and this one sits much lower than we expected. The good news is you can buy bases that are fairly cheap that are 18 inches tall and everything is back to normal.
