First let me start by stating that I have been a SimpliSafe user in the past, and I even beta tested one of their cameras a couple of years ago for them. I don't recall if it was one of the Outdoor 2s but I do know it was a camera & it worked pretty well. Do keep in mind that you'll have to have a recurring subscription to fully utilize this system as well. The price ranges from like $10 to over $30 depending on what level of service you want from them. With that we did the midrange option and it does come with a free month. Unboxing & Initial Set Up Having set up a previous SimpliSafe system I was already familiar with how I needed to go about everything. Even with that the app guides you through everything, and I mean everything, from the syncing of each device, to how to install them properly (height, angle, etc) and so it makes it a breeze. They have taken the guesswork out of everything. That said I did run into an issue where the camera, with it's magnetic rotating mount would randomly rotate itself and fall. It could be because of how I have it mounted and so I am going to revisit it to see if I can get it to stop doing this as it wasn't until about 10 minutes after I mounted it on the back side of the house facing the back deck that I saw it had rotated 90 degrees out of nowhere. Even if it is wonky I can get a mount and mount the camera, no big deal but taking off a half star because that shouldn't be an issue I am having to deal with. Rating: 4.5/5 Usage (System as a whole & the app) SimpliSafe gives you 72 hours to test the system before it goes live. The trial is clicking away but they give you time to get used to setting the alarm, disabling the alarm, etc. before it all goes live. Which is a nice touch. The app is intuitive & super easy to use. I set it up & had my elderly (she's in her mid 60s) mother using it in no time. She is technologically challenged & so her being able to easily use something is a must since she lives with us & I wanted to have this system for her safety & for ours. Rating: 5/5 Camera Image Quality Other than the minor issue I outlined above (rotating 90 degrees on it's twisting magnetic mount) the camera is really great. We have some wireless 4K security cameras & they are great but I needed a couple more cameras and so getting this SimpliSafe system with the 1 outdoor camera (and getting a 2nd one to go along with it) was a must. The image quality is really good. I don't believe it is 4K but it is still very clear and it has motion activation. I was able to position both cameras in such a way that the trees wouldn't set it off, nor would the stray cats that come around but someone or something large does. Which is exactly what I wanted out of the cameras. Rating: 5/5 Conclusion If you are OK with paying a subscription then this is probably the system for you. You can add additional items (like more cameras, motion sensors, keypads, etc) very easily and that is something I will probably be doing in the very near future as we want to put them on all the ground-level windows. Seriously, it was easy. I even had other members of my family add a device by me just handing them the phone and the device & saying follow what the app says. Every single one was able to do so without my intervention (including my elderly mother). So that should tell you how easy it is to add them. The only negatives I can think of are the twisting magnetic camera mount (mentioned multiple times above) and then also not having the ability to cancel or change the subscription on the app. If there is a way I couldn't find it and up until about 18 months ago when I cancelled our previous SimpliSafe subscription it was not possible as you had to call in. It's 2025, we need the ability to cancel through the app if we can subscribe through the app! Overall Rating: 14.5/5

Overpriced sensor alarm system with useless camera

Basic signals from sensors, triggers alarms with a camera, keypad, base system. 1 star: SimpliSafe sells you hardware that you own, but then lock the core features (like recording or playback) behind a subscription paywall . The camera is useless. It takes too long to log into the system to see what is going on.

Gotta say… I’ve been avoiding a security system for years because I was dreading the setup, and worse, the outcome, if it doesn’t offset the work put into the setup but… I was wrong. As for the setup, I was certainly caught off guard at how it was relatively quick and easy. I used the step by step instructions on the inside of the box to lead me through to the app. After downloading it, it was extremely accurate and easy to follow from plugging in the modem to setting up each sensor. As I’m not a handy-man, this was a big thumbs up! The app itself is also really simple, so kudos to the team for that. I love that you can buy more sensors, cameras, key pads as I’d felt the current setup was plenty but my wife, upon seeing the results, wanted more. Ultimately, I just appreciate how customizable this is as we even went ahead and ordered a panic button and four extra sensors. Between the main system and all extras, we were up and rolling in 1-2 hours max. It’s a small gripe but while setting up the exterior camera, the battery that comes with it was not fully charged so we had to wait to charge it. My other hurdle is that naming each sensor, only provides a 13 character limit, which was somewhat difficult. Would love more characters but alas. Not holding this against the company but the outdoor camera is the hardest to set up. Make sure to have a power drill to make securing it easy. When linking it to your WiFi, I’d recommend standing right next to your WiFi router and then walk over to your mounting bracket. The sound quality is great both ways. You can hear and have a full conversation. There is about a one second delay in sound but no big deal. I’d argue that it shines the most in video quality. My wife and I were shocked at how crystal clear it is considering that the video pulls in 1080p but it genuinely feels like 4k. All in all great product. We will be adding 2 more cameras outside. One in the back yard and one more to the side yard after my positive experiences with setup and use. I would recommend this product to friends and family. For the ease and the quality, this is perfect for new homeowners or homeowners looking to add security. Love how many options SimpliSafe has and that the first month is free. The monthly subscription seems fair, which was $30. A dollar a day for peace of mind, hard to beat that.

    New SimpliSafe System

We've been happy SimpliSafe customers for years now, and we recently relocated from Texas to Illinois, so we immediately looked for a new SimpliSafe system. If you're familiar with the SimpliSafe line of products, then you'll know that this is a pretty standard setup for the most part. The big change with this bundle is the new camera. Here's what you get with this package: - Base Station - Keypad - Motion Sensor - 4 Window / Door Sensors - Upgraded Wireless Camera The big change with this kit, compared to older versions, is the upgraded camera. The camera supports a wide angle for viewing, but now SimpliSafe is leveraging AI capabilities to improve motion sensor alerts. We set it up in our backyard, because our new house doesn't have a fence enclosing our backyard. So far, so good. The nice thing about a SimpliSafe system is that it's modular. You can order a great starter kit like this and then add the pieces that make sense for you. For example, we added an additional keypad, some more contact sensors, and a water sensor for our basement. Setting up new devices was quick and easy. We also got a discount from our home insurance provider because we have 24/7 monitoring. I'm happy with SimpliSafe because you can build and adjust a system to fit your specific needs without long term contracts or crazy-complicated installations.

    A versatile, easy-to-install product

Keeping our home safe has become an increasingly higher priority as time goes by, not only having security cameras is always enough. Adding motion sensors and door entry sensors is more complete. This product fulfills these functions and a little more. In the box comes a base, the door entry sensors, a motion sensor, the keypad, a security camera, and the rest of the accessories that will serve for a complete installation. The installation process is easy following the instructions of the app that is necessary to download. The base is connected wired and is basically the command center. The sensors for the doors are easy to install because they have sticky pads. The motion detector can be installed in the same way with sticky pads or screws. The keypad includes batteries and is also easy to install and use, from there you can activate or deactivate the alarms if you are at home or away. The security camera that has a rechargeable battery can also be connected by cable which makes some things a little easier. The camera has an acceptable quality and a sufficiently wide field of view and in night mode it fulfills its purpose satisfactorily. Once everything is connected, the app informs you of events detected by the camera, the entry sensors, and the motion sensor. The issue here is that a subscription is required to take advantage of the most important functions of this product. While this is not a very expensive subscription, it is something to consider when purchasing this product. If we consider that what is at stake is the security of our family and our assets, the basic subscription is a great option to start with. Because this security system does not have local storage, it depends almost on a subscription to have recordings of events and other functions of the base, such as in case there is no power, continue to detect movement, and send notifications to both the phone and the SimpliSafe security team. Being objective, the price of our security and that of our loved ones is priceless, so if you are looking for something that gives you the peace of mind that in case of an unexpected situation you have the support of a specialized agent and the police in case it is necessary, I can recommend this product.

After p Everything was clearly labeled out of the box. The system came with a base station, wireless keypad, outdoor camera, four entry sensors, a motion sensor, a key fob, and mounting gear. Setup took me about 30 minutes. I started by plugging in the base station and connecting it to Wi-Fi using the SimpliSafe app. The app walked me through each step, and it was simple to follow. The base station also has built-in cellular backup, so it stays online even if my internet goes down. I installed three entry sensors on exterior doors and used the fourth one on my garage door. The adhesive mounts were strong and saved me the hassle of drilling. For the outdoor camera, I took a little more time to test placement and signal strength before locking it into the magnetic mount. It connects wirelessly and can be plugged in or run on battery. --- Using the Keypad The keypad is wireless and battery-powered, so I just stuck it up by my front door. It’s slim, responsive, and backlit. Arming and disarming the system takes seconds. There’s also a panic button, and a duress PIN feature—if I ever need to discreetly alert emergency services under pressure, I can enter a special code that looks like a disarm, but notifies SimpliSafe. I also like that if the keypad gets smashed, the base station still functions and can trigger the alarm. --- Security Features Without a subscription, I was still able to: Arm and disarm from the app Get push notifications for door openings and motion triggers View live footage from the outdoor camera Use the built-in siren and alarm alerts Operate the system even during power or internet outages thanks to the cellular backup With a subscription, more features open up. For about $22/month, I could add 24/7 professional monitoring, automatic emergency dispatch, and environmental monitoring (like smoke or CO detection). Higher-tier plans, around $30 to $50/month, include video recording, cloud storage, and a feature called Active Guard. That lets SimpliSafe agents monitor outdoor camera activity in real time and intervene with two-way talk or emergency calls if needed. One important note: Without a plan, the outdoor camera only gives me live feed. If I want recordings or playback, I need a subscription. --- Final Thoughts What stood out most was how easy the entire system was to install. The sensors were quick to mount, the app was straightforward, and the wireless design meant no drilling or rewiring. The outdoor camera worked well once I found a good Wi-Fi spot, and the keypad felt reliable and simple to use. The system works well on its own with just the free features, but to get the most out of it—especially the video storage and professional monitoring—I’d recommend one of the paid plans. If you’re looking for a security system that balances DIY setup with flexible subscription options, SimpliSafe is a solid choice.

I have to admit, I have tried some big brand security systems over the years and my biggest complaint was connecting all the devices to WiFi but I have to admit this is so easy to set up it’s crazy compared to the others. The packaging was very well packed as you would expect from any decent brand. Once unpacked, the quick start guide lets you know what to do and once again, was the simplest I’ve had compared to other bigger brands. The one thing I cannot comment on is the motion detector because I have a crazy cat who runs around and gets in everything so I haven’t set that part up yet. The sensors have all been installed on downstairs doors and it’s as simple as pulling the battery slip out and pushing a button and then it’s connected. You simply pick a door from a list to designate and done. The camera has a very good magnetic mount with a very low profile and the battery seems to last a long time. I have mine mounted in my garage which my kids are in and out of every 10 minutes during the summer and after two weeks has only dropped about 15%. My only issue with is only live video it will send you a push notification if it senses motion however no recording. To get any recording you have to pay $9.99 a month. One thing about my other cameras, they store at least a few hours in case something did happen you could see what did happen. Also, to get email or text you have to pay. I’m not worried about pro monitoring because an alarm would scare anyone off but the recording for $9.99 a month seems excessive. Overall, a very simple system, super easy app, window and yard signs, and quality equipment, just not happy about the video recording.

This 8 piece SimpliSafe security system is one of the most easiest systems to install. There was absolutely no wiring of any kind involved. The window & door sensors are my favorite because i do have 5 kids who love to constantly open the doors so when im cleaning up & someone opens the door it will alert me.... as well if we are ever to have an intruder try to come in. The base stays charged for a good amount of time before recharging. Everything works with ease through the Simplisafe app. Installation was a breeze, the app setup is simple, and easy to use. The motion sensors work great... sometimes a little to great because almost any movement will set it off. I love that i can also use google assistant through the base as well. I can use the app from anywhere, not just at home. It also has a panic button, which i have not used yet but I love knowing that there is that added protection when needed. Overall this security system has made me feel more safe in my own home with my children and from intruders.

This would be my third Simplisafe system, but my first outdoor one. Simplisafe is good because it is a fairly simple setup ---- basically plug and play. The base station is backed up and the keypad is wireless (battery operated though), which is convenient. The last system I had, the batteries only had to be changed every couple of months, so I imagine that will be the same with this one. Mainly, be aware that this system is virtually useless without a subscription plan. Without one, it functions at the most basic, rudimentary level. For example, the camera can operate as a two way communication system, and will give motion notifications....only with the subscription. You only get push notifications on your phone app with the subscription as well. Also, you don't get any recordings unless you subscribe either, so if there is some kind of motion, you won't be able to see the recording of the motion unless you subscribe. Their subscriptions start at $10/month and go up to $50/month roughly so all in all, its a great user friendly system, as long as you subscribe.

Until I became a husband and I father, I never really took my home security into much consideration. In the last five years of my life, finding a wonderful woman to marry and now having a beautiful toddler together has made me realize just how important it is that I fortify and guard our “castle” against intruders. Particularly in this state of the world, where civil unrest is rampant and it seems like manners and common human decency have gone by the wayside, I have wanted to have better monitoring of our home for protection. Enter this system: SimpliSafe has outdone itself in creating a smart and cost-effective package that allows you to get set up with a DIY security system that has a monthly professional monitoring plan that starts at less than the cost of a Netflix subscription each month. This, to me, way outdoes the old days of SOS alarm systems paying their exorbitant installation costs and having to deal with customer service that felt like it was from the 20th century. Oh, wait, much of it is, haha! Not so with this system! I really can appreciate what is included in this package. I think you get just the right equipment to get started for an average lower-middle-class American home with one public-facing entrance (great place for the outdoor camera to canvas) and two to four doors leading to the outside. Even some additional aids are present here, like the motion sensor camera, which is a great pick for an indoor living space where you expect movement of an intruder to occur. In our use and testing of it, our 55-pound labradoodle has not triggered the motion alarm! Way to go, SimpliSafe! The only additional thing I wish this package had included was their doorbell camera. That way, that could have been used for the front public-facing entrance, and then the outdoor camera used elsewhere. Speaking of that outdoor camera, it can be used wirelessly or wired, but the so-called Active Guard Outdoor Protection requires a wired connection. The Active Guard Outdoor Package seems like it has some great benefits, particularly for high-crime or break-in areas where you want a live agent to be able to actively confront an intruder via the camera’s speakers and siren. However, this requires some of the higher-tier, more expensive monthly plans, and for me, I just don’t think I am going to pony up the price for that yet. It is important to know that this is available, which will be very attractive for some prospective buyers! Altogether, I would give this system 5 out of 5 stars for just getting me the right gear in one package to pretty well blanket my home in sensors and intruder protection that certainly are worth their price for the best peace of mind I have felt in a long time!

he 8 piece Simplesafe Home security system, comes nicely, packaged with well labeled boxes for each item. The eight piece set includes the base station which is plugged in with backup battery and it also includes a siren. The keypad is battery operated and includes alarm off, home and away. There is a 6 second default delay, which in a large house would not be long enough. This apparently is the default setting so I am hoping it can be extended. The set also includes four entry sensors for doors and windows and obviously this would not be enough for even a medium size house but additional ones can be purchased. The set includes a motion sensor for mounting in the house and there is also an outdoor camera that is both plug-in and battery. It comes with a yard sign which you’re supposed to display prominently. The set includes one month free monitoring and apparently is less than one dollar a day. The devices are designed to be easily moved with set up. I downloaded the app and it took me a while to scan and get the base system connected to the app, but I happen to be slow at this task. There is not a video doorbell included in this set, but an additional device can be added at additional expense there are also a multitude of other devices that can be purchased, which include water, temp, smoke/CO detectors, and an additional siren. I have long awaited to try the simplesafe security system since many of my friends use this system. The system is fairly easy to set up, but in order for it to be functional in a medium size house you would need to purchase the additional devices, especially the entry sensor since most houses have multiple doors and windows. I did not sign up for the one month free monitoring simply because I’m not convinced that I want someone viewing my cameras, 24 seven this however, would be an added protection in crime infested areas. I live in a relatively safe neighborhood therefore I’m not ready to invest in the 24 /7 monitoring. I think the simplesafe security system is a great alternative to the more expensive systems that are professionally installed. Overall, this eight piece simplesafe monitoring system is a very nice set up and works very well.
