Fantastic, full-featured security system

Setting the system up through the app was a breeze. Once the base station is set up, you can then set up other devices through the app like motion sensors, entry sensors, etc. just by pressing the button on the sensor. Super easy. Or you can use the keypad, but for me that's not as easy.
Once installed you can choose a monitoring plan. I chose the self monitoring plan because I live in a fairly safe area. They offer plans that monitor the sensors, call you if there is an issue, and then they call the authorities, if that's what you need. The high-end plan also offers unlimited video recording. I also like the fact that you don't have to choose a monitoring plan. You can choose to get alerts and respond yourself.
So far I'm very happy with the system. The video quality is good on the cameras, and the motion sensor and entry sensors work flawlessly. Everything works as advertised. It is so full-featured and well thought-out.
If you want a full-featured security system that includes sensors (motion, water, glass breakage), cameras (indoor and out), video doorbell, etc., in one system that ties everything neatly together, SimpliSafe is a great choice.

Great DIY Security System, with Slight Problems

For those wanting/needing a home security system, you (basically) have two primary “options” – a full/custom system professionally installed by the manufacturer (or licensed installer of said systems)…or a DIY system, such as those available from SimpliSafe, and similar companies. The whole idea behind DIY systems is ‘saving money’. Is a DIY system the “right” way to go? For some, yes.
INITIAL IMPRESSIONS:
To start, I’m not happy with the packaging. Honestly, I don’t know if the package I received is the retail packaging, or was a “special” packaging for the review units. My SimpliSafe Whole Home system arrived in what I assumed was the exterior shipping box. When I opened it, I expected to find a product box, such as would be found on store shelves, with the individual components inside that box…found each of the system components inside, with each component inside its own individual box. If you’ve ever purchased furniture from Ikea, and understand how the furniture pieces are packaged inside the Ikea box, then you’ll have an excellent idea of how SimpliSafe packaged the individual boxes inside the outer box. So, why am I “not happy”? Because it’s a LOT of wasted cardboard. While it’s great that all the materials are ‘environmentally friendly’, it’s still a LOT of wasted material. At the same time…and, something I do like…is that each component was well protected against damage…so, at least that’s a ‘plus’.
SET-UP & CONFIGURATION:
Set-up is “interesting”. There are several words I could have used…some ‘positive’, some ‘negative’…so, I’ll just stick with “interesting”. Setup isn’t ‘difficult’…but, at the same time, it’s not something everyone might be able to do. If you even start to question your abilities in setting the system up, then, by all means, pay to have it installed. Over the years, I’ve installed a lot of security camera systems, home networks, and other similar devices, so I felt confident I could accomplish installing the system…and, for the most part, I succeeded. Granted, I DID run into some problems, and, through the assistance of SimpliSafe’s tech support, I am (slowly) working through them. While I was confident that I could install everything myself (and, truth-be-told, I did), if I were to go back in time, I would probably consider paying to have it installed (which would, of course, be partially dependent on what the cost is…something I didn’t bother checking into).
ADDITIONAL THOUGHTS:
I wish I could add more to this review, as I have done in almost all my other reviews…but, the truth is, 1) I haven’t yet had the time to fully “play around with” all aspects of it, as work got extremely busy, and I’ve been heading out very early, and not getting home until very late, and 2) because I’ll be moving soon, thus I’m having to uninstall everything, only to be set back up again (in approx 2 months) after I move. All-in-all, I believe SimpliSafe to produce an excellent DIY security system.
FINAL VERDICT:
As I said, I haven’t had enough time to go through all features & functions…but, for what I have, I’m quite pleased. When SimpliSafe first came to the market, I wasn’t entirely sure about their products, I questioned how much of a ‘DIY’ system it was, and I worried that such a system would be “problematic”. Moving forward several years, and after reading quite a few reviews over the past several years, I’m now confident that SimpliSafe products are ‘quality’ products…and, for those who know/understand what they are doing, the ‘DIY’ nature of their systems truly are “DIY”. So, in regards to the “Would I recommend this” question, I will say this. In general, “yes”. Just remember that, if you’re uncertain about the ‘DIY’ aspect, do yourself a favor, and pay to have it installed. Sure, you can go with one of the traditional “security companies”, and their (expensive) systems…or, you can save yourself a considerable amount of money, and get this (or any other system) from SimpliSafe.

The SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Home Security Kit comes with everything you need to protect your family and your home. That's quite a mouthful. So what exactly is included with the SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Home Security Kit that sets it apart from the other SimpliSafe bundles?
You Get:
A base station (you need something to be the brains of the system!)
A keypad (and a very tactile one at that)
SIX entry sensors that can be placed on doors or windows - Normally you are lucky to get three!
A Motion Sensor (and it is VERY sensitive, a good thing!)
An indoor camera
And TWO outdoor cameras!
What I LOVE LOVE LOVE is that the SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Home Security Kit is virtually wireless. The only item needing to be wired is the base station and that is to be plugged into power. Everything else is pretty much battery powered (but don't worry, the app will warn you if any of the batteries are running low.
Installation of the SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Home Security Kit is straight forward. Once you have the base station plugged in - simply mount the keypad, The entry sensors.
And with the entry sensors I do suggest you place one on your front door, but the others "think like a burglar" and place them where you think "they" would most likely enter.
Since I already have a ring-a-ding-dong door bell *you know the one) I mounted the outdoor cameras in areas that are blind spots to it.
And the indoor camera I placed in my upstairs office since it contains 99% of my 'Fun things". And guess what? Installation is complete!
Now a word on monitoring. What you are paying for is for SimpliSafe to watch your system and to call the police when something suspicious is happening.
Since I am home 99% of the time due to a disability, I personally find that monitoring is not needed in my case.
Again, cases my vary and yours may be the exact opposite of mine.
Enough rambling. Final word.. The SimpliSafe 12 Piece Whole Home Security Kit is THE kit for essential home security. Not only that, it is VERY simple to install. Next time you're at BestBuy and you want your house to be secure, it is worth every penny!

Solid Home Security System Setup

I've been a happy Simplisafe customer since the first version but have always regretted not jumping on the camera integrations they offered because we had another wireless camera setup. However, the opportunity arouse to replace those cameras, so I jumped at the change to replace my other, older cameras with newer ones from Simplisafe that integrate with our home security system.
This particular kit comes with:
- Base Station
- Keypad
- 2 outdoor wireless, battery-powered cameras
- 1 indoor wireless, plug-in-powered camera
- 6 door / window sensors
- 1 motion sensor
If you've ever set up a Simplisafe system before, then you know how quick it is to get them up and running. The main appeal of a Simplisafe system is that you can add additional components to fit your specific need and there's no long-term contracts to sign or installations to schedule.
Out of the box, I had the base station, keypad, and indoor camera up and running in less than 30 minutes. The image quality on the cameras is great. The indoor camera's streaming quality is great, but my only gripe is that it has to be plugged in in order to work. That means that if there's a power outage, your video feed will go down.
Part of the initial appeal in a Simplisafe system is that if your power, or WiFi goes down, the base station will revert to battery / cellular service to retain functionality. But because the indoor camera has to be plugged in, your video feed will go down. This is the main reason why I took a star off my review.
The outside cameras are great as well, we placed on in our back patio and the other on the side of our house by the back gate. We also placed the 6 sensors on our lower floor windows and doors.
The Simplisafe monitoring service does have a cost though, it's about $25 a month and provides 24/7 monitoring service. I believe that plan is required for the cameras though, since that plan is required for their mobile app to work and you need the app to set up the cameras... but it might be worth confirming with Simplisafe first.
My only other gripe is that Simplisafe does not work out of the box with Apple HomeKit. Simplisafe said a few years ago that HomeKit support was coming, but there's been nothing since. Since HomeKit is our primary smart home setup, this leaves Simplisafe on an island unless you setup a HomeBridge that enables unofficial HomeKit support for devices.
If you're looking for a simple, easy to setup and maintain home security system, then I highly recommend checking out the various packages from Simplisafe. Even if you don't find a package that fits you 100% out of the box, remember you can always add additional pieces as needed.

SimpliSafe Is a Winner!

Confession: I have a fully functional competitors home security system in place right now, before installing the SimpliSafe 12 piece Home Kit. There were aspects of the presently installed system I wasn't thrilled about and the SimpliSafe system looked interesting. The 12 piece system came with the master unit, keypad, six entry sensors (doors/windows), 2 outdoor cameras, 1 indoor camera, and one motion sensor. It also came with 1 large outdoor sign stating protection via SimpliSafe Home Security and two indoor adhesive decals for windows.
Everything came well packed and organized. After downloading the SimpliSafe APP for my iPhone, the directions via the APP were clear and precise. Setting up the Base Station was the first step, and just following the steps in the very clear APP got my system up and running. Additional items are available for purchase from SimpliSafe should you wish to add to your system, however. Do you need a tech to come do this? NO! Did it all myself with no problems. SimpliSafe does offer the tech services for those who do desire this, however.
SO: in the end, what do I think? I'm very impressed with this system! I have full confidence it will do what it states it will do: protect my home! And, unlike the still installed ... but soon to be uninstalled OTHER unit, which raises monthly charges pretty regularly ... the monthly monitoring charges for SimpliSafe are honest and welcomed.
Very nice system!

I was excited to get this SImplisafe system to work in concert with cams I already have. Installation should have been easy as I'm fairly handy and not shy about technology. I had issues with the app from the start. Getting the system to connect and stay connected was frustrating. I have a Pixel 6 Pro, and never thought I'd have issues like this. Hard part install was strait forward and not too difficult.
Recommendation- Plan out everything in advance before install to save yourself some time.
Mounting and connecting the outdoor cameras took me a total of about 30 minutes. one was easy the other more difficult due to location. I'm hoping the battery lasts so changes are few and far between.
The adhesive on one of my entry sensors was no good. It kept coming loose and causing the alarm to go off. Purchased some aftermarket 15lb double sided tape, fixed it.
The alarm is LOUD, your neighbors will know someone is in your house for sure.
As a DIY install, it's probably the best out there with monitoring. It's also modular so you can add key fobs, more sensors, a water sensor, CO2 detector, etc.
Time will tell how good the system holds up. I've had no issues with the monitor service so far, and people at Simplisafe have been friendly and helpful.

The Simplisafe system is probably the most user friendly system I have utilized thus far. Each of the sensors came with adhesive that were easy to install. I did have a few issues, minor, but worth detailing:
1) 2 of my 6 sensors I needed to call customer service to activate
2) Connecting to 2.4ghz wifi takes a few extra steps, so be aware of that
3) You need one of the plans to do really anything --- one is $14.99, the other is $24.99. I just got the 24.99 one
4) The bundle does NOT come with a doorbell
The lack of a doorbell camera with this $649 is VERY surprising to me. Doorbell cameras are very standard these days and I was disappointed that I didn't even get a discount code or anything with this package. Otherwise, the system is very user friendly, and much more easy to operate than other systems I have utilized through the app. I can arm/disarm the system via my app, I can view all of my cameras in real time and can view past motion recordings as well.
Despite the issues, Simplisafe has probably the most friendly customer service department I have experienced in a long time, plus the wait times have dramatically improved from a few years ago when I used to have Simplisafe. Great home investment.

Nice & easy little system

I was so excited to get this!!! When we first bought our house it had door chimes that worked, but a security system that did not. Reasonably priced, and sure, it claimed it would be easy to install...
I got the package and everything was packed separately which was a lot of cardboard, however a life saver to not get anything mixed up. So I followed the instructions and got the chimes installed on the doors and the kids windows-amazingly just remove take cover and pit in place. I installed the app on the phone and set up the keypad. Then I got a back injury which had me laid up for a week.
While I could not pay too much attention to what was going on, I could tell the comings and goings
by the door chimes. I had asked my sister to hang up the cameras but she would not- she is not a tech person as she puts it.
So, a week later I get the cameras set -nothing difficult about it at all. I used the old camera mounts and only had to drill 1 more hole ( we get some very heavy winds here- I wanted to be on the safe side) I did not choose monitoring but I do get notifications.
I feel a bit better having this but I did not put up the yard signs.

My favorite security system

I have had other simplisafe home security systems I. The past, as well as others in between. I wanted to come back to Simplisafe due to the reputation, and quality products they produce. This whole security kit truly gives you everything you need, and they have done a great job at upgrading their technology.
Out of the box you will see you have 12 pieces of equipment clearly labeled, packaged nicely, and multiple options for directions. QR code, as well as printed instructions included.
Since I had an account previously, I just had to sign in, and get the benefits of the free interacive monitoring that is included for a limited time, other wise that plan is $27.99 a month.
The new sleek, and touch screen keypad is a nice addition, as well as their motion sensor has been upgraded. I have a dog, and there are instructions on how to install depending on your dogs weight so it doesn’t accidentally trigger.
You will also get door/window sensors, outside cameras, and an indoor camera. That was the only downside. The installation was smooth, and simple but the indoor camera took wayyyy too long to connect, and I had to reset it twice.
Simple safe provides you with a sense of security, modern technology, and innovation that keeps me coming back. I feel much safer, and being able to see my dog and home, and know only true emergencies will trigger the system is comforting.

The product specifies the security systems is compatible with Alexa but it does not say that you need to pay for a plan to have the right to connect it to Alexa
