It was time to replace an older unit so I quickly and easily navigated Best Buy for purchase. It arrived next day and was easy-peasy to add to my existing system and install.

However, I was very disappointed to discover that you have to purchase the SimpliSafe base in order to get notifications to your phone; because otherwise, it is simply a normal detector, not worth the price tag.

Sure, I could rely on our Nest protects (also great) for alarms like these, but we've seen first hand (several times) the need for a failsafe of the system being able to call for help with a monitored Simplisafe system. Notifications while away are just not enough, I'd hate to miss a push notification or be on a long flight and not be able to save our pets from carbon monoxide poisoning or fire. - Worth having. This detector also is nicely minimal and blends into the background. Nice design.

As inexpensive as the same item that can buy however this Simplisafe detector can monitor and give an alert that goes to my phone. Groovy.
