It starts out kind of quick and keeps the same pace through the movie. A lot different than part one but with the Deputy on party one returning.

Sinister 2 suffered from the same fate as The Hobbit films: decent enough sequel, but thrashed simply because it wasn't like the original. Sinister 2 goes in a slightly different direction, and admittedly the story isn't as tight as in the first film and the tone is pretty uneven-- but for me, the disjointed feel was refreshing, helping me empathize with the jarring emotional reality the characters endured. What's more, I'm one of those people who think bratty children detract from a film, which was a mark against the first Sinister. In this film, when child characters go bad, it's for a different reason than being little snots. The characters all around were more likeable, with decent chemistry between Ex-Deputy So-and-so and Courtney, adding hope and levity. Thoroughly enjoyed this film, which deserves a second chance inthe wake of unnecessarily harsh critical and audience reactions.

I really enjoyed Sinister, so I figured I would give the sequel a whirl. Even though I already knew what was driving the children to do such horrible acts, Sinister 2 was still very enjoyable.
There is something about children, who are evil, that really freaks me out. And I think a lot of people feel this way. That’s why when that plot device is used in a horror movie, it’s so effective. Everytime I saw the clips of people being killed in a corn field, I would think of The Children of the Corn series. I still can’t drive past a corn field without staring into to make sure there’s no children watching me. If you saw the first movie you will enjoy the second one it will make you jump a couple of times, I really enjoyed it!

Being a huge fan of the first Sinister, I was beyond excited for this movie. After seeing the trailer, it looked like they were going to go over the top with this one and make it intense. I really wanted that to happen. I really wanted this to be even better than the first.
I didn't get what I wanted.
This is my first review, so I'll keep it short. Everything that I was hoping this film would have, wasn't there. Not really a spoiler, but I felt like it tried to be more of a family drama movie with some supernatural stuff going on in the background. There were non-genuine jump-scares and the acting was less than average. Even with the glaringly bad plot, I sat there trying to look at some positives. The positives are that some scares got me. I'm jumpy even when I know jump-scares are coming, so they got me on that. But when the movie ended, I couldn't help but reflect on how bad the overall story was and how stupid some of the scares were. I won't spoil any of them, but let's just say that you'll probably be wondering how the scares were "genuine" when you really put it into perspective.
I give this movie a 5/10. Mostly because I just really, really wanted to like it. I kept searching for any redeeming qualities throughout the movie and they are slim to none. I recommend watching if you're bored one night and you've seen just about all the horror movies out there. It'll pass the time, but it's just a plain jump-scare fest with a nonsensical story. Don't go in having high expectations like I did.

Not an avid fan of horror movies, but enjoy one when it has a strong storyline and doesn't rely on sudden cheap thrills with shock scenes and orchestra crescendos.
The story itself is a continuation of a franchise that began with a movie of the same name, this time following one of the original characters (played by James Ransome) into a new situation involving the further development of the evil character behind the events in the story.
Without giving up any story details, I enjoyed finding out more about the evil presence while also attending to another story arc, that of a struggling writer who has come to town to revive his career.
Ethan Hawke is in this one and, as always, does a phenomenal job underplaying his role, providing an added dimension of mystery and realism to the experience.
Interestingly, the movie is enjoyable despite the fact that its being heavily carried by a pair of kids. When watching a movie, what helps make it enjoyable is forgetting that its just a movie while you're watching it. In general, the overacting many kids do ruins that magic. Kids tend to lack the finesse necessary to make their characters believable. In this case, the acting by the two boys was very believable, and enhanced the story well.

I've been watching horror movies for over 25 years and not to many horror/supernatural movies deserve a second movie but nonetheless it still holds up. To the movie before this one. I will not give out any spoilers but. If you're looking for a movie that will give you nightmares or make you scared to look in your attic. Then you have a winner. But if you're really not into this type of genre you will waste your time.

Citadel director Ciarán Foy takes the helm for this horror sequel penned by original Sinister screenwriter C. Robert Cargill in collaboration with Scott Derrickson (who relinquished directorial duties to focus on writing and producing here). ~ Jason Buchanan, Rovi
If you like spooky movies and like to be scared this movie is for you.
Might not be best to watch before bed. :-)

It does help if you've seen the first film, but not completely necessary. I really loved the first movie, so this couldn't possibly match up, but it's consistent and creepy/scary in all the right ways. This is an interesting and more original concept in the very cliched horror genre.

SINISTER APPEAL

Sinister 2 should appeal to anyone who enjoyed the lore in the first film. For genre veterans or fans of the original looking for a tight, thrilling, well written Horror movie, however, Sinister 2 is just another day at the office, a movie that's neither any great shakes nor in any way terrible. Credit it for foregoing too many jump scares and tip the hat to Foy and his cast for shaping an otherwise trite script into something watchable, if not wholly forgettable, but despite their best efforts the movie never gets off the ground or works its way to "must see" territory. Universal's Blu-ray release of Sinister 2 features excellent video and audio. Supplements are average in quality and quantity.

Saw both movies with my daughter and the first was very scary and suspenseful. While the sequel didn't measure up to the first overall, I think it was still a good movie with a good story. I hope there isn't a chapter 3 or I'll be seeing Bughuul in the shadows once again.

Spooky & Quite Creepy

Creepy is the best and most appropriate word to describe this movie. I have to admit a couple scenes made me jump as well. It is hard to get good movies in this genre, and so much is rehashed and repetitive. Not that different in this movie, but it is executed well, and it works.
Setting is excellent, a farm in Illinois, where I wouldn't dare set foot, and the two young actors as the twins do an admirable job.
Worth seeing, make sure to see it late at night. It is quite spooky, and they have done an excellent job creating a 'multi-sensorial' experience.

The first Sinister was truly a good horror film. This sequel does justice to the franchise. Without giving away too much of the plot, it can be said that the ghost or entity known as Boo-Ghoul is still around haunting people. I believe this franchise is a good quality horror-fest. Most of the time horror films are plagued by cheesiness, but thankfully the Sinister series keeps the cheese factor to a low, and achieves through not only jump scares, but through intellectual plot points the higher quality of horror that is often desired by the fanbase.

Usually sequels aren't that great but this one I've thought wasn't too bad. I'm into shock and gore and this one had more than the original.

A very predictable, unentertaining sequel to the great Sinister movie. Jump scare after jump scare that the movie is anything but. Basically a sequel that didnt add to the lore and didn't need to exist.

Sinister had my heart racing the entire movie. Sinister 2 was good, but a typical "sequel let-down" when its predecessor was so good. Don't get me wrong though, I enjoyed this movie a lot.
