Decent headphones for students and travelers.
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones offer decent sound with some really convenient features. You get rapid charging with a 36 hour battery life, a slim profile, Tile tech, and hinges that fold, pivot, and swivel for supreme comfort. Unfortunately, the materials feel a bit cheap and the sound is only ok. Vocals seem a bit flat and recessed, with bass that’s notable at times, but nothing strong or remarkable. Think entry level car stereo sound quality, except these can get really, really loud while staying surprisingly clear. Design wise, the profile is nice and slim so it won’t look silly on your head, while the pivot and swivel hinges allow a custom fit and tight seal. It’s funny, the lightweight plastic used to make the headphones feels cheap, but by keeping the weight down, the Hesh Evo stays comfortable over a long period of time, and doesn’t try to slide off of your head. Controlling the headphones is pretty standard with all of the buttons for bluetooth pairing, play/stop, volume up/fwd, and volume down/rvrse under a single rubber pad. I had no issues pairing the headphones with my phone, and there’s no app needed unless you want to use the built-in Tile tech, which is a pretty cool feature if you lose your headphones a lot. You can sync it up with your cell phone and it’ll help you locate on a map where you last had them on, and activate an alarm to help you find them, even if they’re off. Super convenient if you travel with your headphones a lot, or have family members that like to borrow your things. Overall, the Hesh Evo offers an interesting mix of features, quality, and performance. The sound is loud and clear, but the sound quality is average. The build quality is only ok, but offers excellent comfort in a sleek profile. The Tile tech, long battery life, and rapid charging are all huge pluses though, which makes the Hesh Evo a strong choice for students and travelers. PROS - Sound can be turned up really loud - 36 hour battery life - Rapid charging USB C connection - Tile location tech - Comfortable to wear over long periods - Slim profile - Swivel and pivot hinges CONS - OK sound quality - Cheap plastic

Expensive sound at a reasonable price
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This review is for the Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones. I enjoy reviewing audio headphones and speakers, so when I got a chance to review these, I jumped on it. First impression: The headphones feel well made. They are made of aluminum and plastic and feel solid. The ear covers and head pad are soft vinyl. I was concerned the vinyl would cause me to sweat during extended wear, but that never happened. The headphones don’t collapse as some do; however, the cans rotate 90 degrees each so that the headphones lie flat. That could really help when carrying them in a backpack or briefcase. On the right can, there are 4 multi-purpose buttons covered by a single rubber cover. Running my hand over the rubber cover allowed me to determine which button I was on. Using the buttons was very easy. Test Setup: For the test, I used my MacBook Pro laptop with Apple Music over Bluetooth as the source. I played multiple genres to cover most listening preferences. The genres were easy listening, piano solos, Bluegrass, heavy metal, hardcore punk, hip-hop/rap, funk, and electronic. Performance: Let me start by saying I didn’t expect much from these headphones. I had never listened to them nor have I heard any reviews. The marketing and the name/logo led me to believe they were catering to metal and rock, maybe even punk, and would be loud and flat. I couldn’t have been more wrong. I started the test with one of my favorite artists, Randy Newman. Like most audio tests, I listened to his Land of Dreams and Sail Away albums. With both of these albums (I know I know, it’s streamed; but I started listening to music in the ’70s, so every source is called an album to me), the headphones did a great job at reproducing the entire frequency range. I love Randy Newman’s voice, and these cans reproduced his voice perfectly. Following Newman, I listened to Simon and Garfunkel and Dire Strait’s Love Over Gold. The headphones also did a great job at accurately reproducing the music and sounded clean and clear. Next, I moved on to heavy metal/punk. I was looking to see how well they stood up to metal. I started with Officer Negative, Suicidal Tendencies, and the Vandals. Following the punk category, I listened to Metallica, Iron Maiden, Led Zeppelin, Anthrax, and AC/DC. In both of these genres, I was able to turn the volume up really loud and they never distorted. Metallica’s “The Thing That Should Not Be” can cause cheaper speakers and headphones to distort with its full guitars and heavy bass. These headphones had no problems with it and did very well in this category. I then listened to piano solos from Philip Glass, Efram Bergman, and Ludovico Einaudi. These headphones did a surprisingly great job with these artists. Again, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of sound with piano solos. To finish up, I listened to high-energy electric music and hip-hop. I chose the B-52’s, Beastie Boys, The Black Eyed Peas, Black Knight, Digital Underground, George Clinton, Killer Mike, HOPP, LL Cool J, Gorillaz, The Gap Band, George Clinton and the P-Funk Allstars, NF, Tedashi, Trip Lee, The Prodigy, Crystal Method, and MAKJ & Timmy Trumpet. Most of these songs had a deep base and/or punchy bass. I figured if I was going to get these to distort or break down, it would be in this genre. In my opinion, this is the genre that these headphones really shined. The guitars in The B-52’s Rock Lobster were really clear and pronounced. The deep bass in L.L. Cool J’s “Going Back to Cali” was deep, clear, and undistorted while the highs were clear and crisp. MAKJ & Timmy Trumpet’s Remix of “Party Till We Die” sounded outstanding, with clear crisp synthesizer and tight, punchy bass, again with no distortion. And The Black Eyed Peas “Imma Be” has really deep bass, and again, these headphones did a great job handling the bass while providing crystal clear voices. My primary headphones cost at least four times as much as the Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones and only sound a little better in this category. I’m as surprised as I am delighted. Conclusion: I’m not sure how I missed these headphones. It’s a clear case of judging a book by its cover. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo headphones sounded good in all categories, some better than others. But at no point did they ever sound bad or distorted. They are comfortable to wear, and the over the earpad cuts out almost background noise. And with extended listening, no matter what style of music I was listening to, I never got tired of listening to them. Final thoughts: To me, these headphones sounded their best with Easy Listening and Rap/Funk/Electronic music, which I thought was an odd combination. If this is the style of music you primarily listen to, I highly recommend them for you. But like I said before, they sound good regardless of the type of music you are listening to.

Skullcandy continues to impress
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo over the ear headphones give you a lot of bang for your buck. When the brand first came out, they were extremely basic and the sound quality was extremely limited and underwhelming. Times have definitely changed in my opinion. If you are looking for a high end audiophile worthy product, Skullcandy is not typically coming up in the conversation. For the price point, you are not going to get the sound quality to meet that high of an expectation. But at this price point, it’s an excellent starter kit. As I did with my son, this was the first brand and model of noise reduction headphones for my daughter. My thought was, that if she can take good care of these, we will upgrade later. At the same time, Covid came around and getting them became a necessity rather than a splurge. So far these have been a God sent. We have a younger daughter, who totally bugs the heck out of our second grader. This has helped a lot so she can focus without the distractions around the house. Plus, she has moderate attention issues, and this has helped her focus more. If you want to read about the technical specs, you should go on the website as I don’t know what half of that means. I know they sound great and that is the main thing for me. Obviously they are Bluetooth capable, and they fit over the ears vice on the ears or in the ears. The Bluetooth connects quickly and automatically if desired. They are adjustable, but tend to be on the smaller side. But the best thing for me, is the fact that they have a battery life of over 30 hours. Also, one unexpected bonus is that these headphones have a Tile device built into them so you can locate them when your 7 year old leaves them at her friend’s house and begins to freak out (not that it will ever happen to you two weeks after getting them). Overall, Skullcandy makes a good product. That good product has gotten better with every generation of headphones they release, and at this point you are getting more for less for sure. I would have expected these to be around the $200 range and would have been comfortable paying that much for them. At the end of the day, I would recommend these to anyone looking for a quality pair of headphones. I think they are even on sale now....so extra bonus for you!

Long Battery Life
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In the box is the headphones, a charging cable, a carrying bag, an auxiliary cord, and the quick start guide and warranty manuals. Fresh out of the box, these over the ear Bluetooth headphones are quite sleek and lightweight. They fold flat, and come with a carrying bag that it slips in for easy storage in a purse or backpack. The headphones themselves are quite nice, excellent sound quality and an extensive battery life that lasted around 20-25 hours of continuous music playback. Straight out the box, with no extra charging, it was around two or three days before a charge was needed. Given, with this long battery life it doesn’t take a while to charge. It took Around a half hour for a full battery. Keep in mind that with the auxiliary cord the headphones come with, you can keep listening even with no more charge. Now that brings up the question of the sound quality when using the cord instead of wirelessly. I can confidently say that the sound quality does not change when using the cord. Along the lines of sound quality, I would like to mention that these headphones are not the best for sound cancellation. With the volume at halfway the ambient sound, like conversation, can still be heard quiet clearly. And with the volume at maximum, other louder noises are still apparent. Overall, I love these headphones and I would definitely recommend them to friends and family.

Headphones that look and sound great
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo wireless headphones are a pretty awesome value for bluetooth headphones that look and sound great. I have used them with a variety of music and apps and have been extremely happy with how they've performed. I was also really excited to find they work as a full headset with microphone even when wired. This gives me the ability to quickly plug them into my work laptop to take a teams video meeting and not have to frantically pair them. My black pair looks very subtle but stylish; you could wear these in a lot of different settings and not look out of place. For music, gaming, and movies I tried them with both my Note 20 Ultra as well as my wife's iPhone 11 Pro, and my gaming desktop PC. They have a warm, well balanced sound with plenty of bass. For a fairly small pair of over-the-ear headphones they have a surprising amount of sound isolation and stay very comfortable. They also fold up to be very compact so you can toss them in your bag. I think these might be the best headphones I've used for the price.

Very good sound for the value
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I'm reviewing an item I usually first look at the build quality. The fit and finish of a product if you will and I can tell that these headphone are several generations evolved when it comes to sound and build. I have a few others to compare them too and the overall sound of these cans can hold their own with the big boys. Their bass is pronounced but not too thumpy to cover the music. The highs are silky sounding and the mids accompaniment just add to the experience. All of this would be moot if the wireless connection was shaky. I'm happy to report that it is not. Not one stutter on my Surface Duo phone. Highly recommended!

Skullcandy Over the ear Wireless Headphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Skullcandy Hesh Evo Over-the-Ear-Wireless headphones feel a little heavy after 45 minutes of use. I found that I kept having to remove them from the ears. The sound is clear and does not distort at louder settings. The battery life in question, the paperwork states up to 36 hours of battery life in one place and 22 hours of battery life in another. The headphones support rapid charge technology. The headphones also collapse for storage. Also included is a sleek travel bag. I would recommend this to family and friends.

Great entry level headphones
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Skullcandy in the past was overpowering bass and that’s about it. For the price these actually have pretty good sound with some clarity I didn’t expect in this price range. Also the battery life is amazing around 36 hours. My only knock on these is the pouch and I don’t care that it’s a pouch but I would of liked a better one. I am happy this uses USB type C to charge though.
