Bought SkyBell to keep a watchful eye on my porch while I am away. It has a decent video feed but tends to freeze and some of the colors are distorted.

I received this item free of charge in exchange for an unbiased review.
My Skybell experience was pretty good. Got the item, unboxed it, and went to install it. Pulled off my existing doorbell (just a standard lighted doorbell), and realized the screws that hold it into the brick were spaced closer together than the skybell required. A drill and a few minutes and I had a new hole ready. Used the included anchors to put it in, screwed the base on and was ready to mount the skybell.
I had the two wires from the doorbell, hooked them to the skybell with the included wire "nuts" (the blue crimper pieces anyways). Then tried to attach the doorbell. No go. Tried and tried and couldn't get it to work. Turns out the blue wire 'nuts' can not sit behind the doorbell, they have to sit behind the mounting piece (in my case brick, so no go). I used some electrical tape and hooked them together well and shoved them back as far as I could. That seemed to work and I was able to get the (insanely) tiny allen key in and got the doorbell hooked up.
Hooking up the app was simple, added the number from the box and it recognized it near immediate. Now the software piece. Thankfully this hopefully can be improved without new hardware, because it's lacking a bit.
First impression was that it doesn't seem to be optimized for my iPhone 6, not all apps are yet, but we're going on 8-9 months now, and hopefully they'll add that on. Video quality is pretty good, can see most faces, and the sound works quite well. Where the doorbell sits sometimes it is hard to see faces if they are close to the door (there was a different mounting plate with mine that I think would have solved that but there were no instructions for it and it wasn't immediately clear what to do so I didn't use it, but it looked to angle the entire doorbell up by 5-10 degrees).
Some of the things I love about it:
- When someone is at the door, either the motion sensor will alert us (sometimes before they hit the doorbell), or when the hit the doorbell my phone (and my wife's) both get alerts. This is great when I am listening to music on my phone when I work at home, no more missing the doorbell.
- You can turn the doorbell off, meaning it will only alert your phones not actually ding the doorbell inside. This can be great if you child is sleeping, you've all been there if you've had a kid.
- You can see who's at the door, and there is an activity log that looks to get automatically created? So you can see who's at the door, pretty great.
Some of the things I don't like.
- Sometimes the activity feed videos can be really bad quality or just have seconds of unviewable footage. Not sure why.
- If my phone is locked and I get a skybell alert, when I swipe on it from the home screen and then unlock my phone it opens the skybell app but doesn't turn show the video. If my phone is unlocked and someone hits the doorbell and I click on the banner, I'm taken right in (which is great). Wish the locked one would work the same.
- Motion sensor. I mentioned above it's great to get an alert for motion, however some days we get a lot of 'ghost' alerts for motion. Not sure if it's wind or sun or it picking up stuff in the background, but it does. When we're home it's sometimes ok (unless it's super early or late), when we're away it seems to freak us out a bit more. I'd prefer to keep the motion sensor on but may turn it off if it keeps triggering accidentally.
Overall it's a neat little product, and while it could have some improvements hopefully a lot of those can be made in the app and in software so it will continue to keep getting better.

A couple firmware updates away from perfection!
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
I've had a good week or so now after installing this doorbell to get an idea of what I like and don't like. It's pretty awesome overall, and have had no major issues with it so far, although I have had some minor nitpicks that they can hopefully address in future firmware updates.
*Installation*
I have never messed with my doorbell at all before, so I was a little hesitant at first, but the installation process was extremely simple and free of cursing and/or disasters. It basically consists of a few simple steps:
1. Unscrew and remove old doorbell
2. Feed existing doorbell wires through SkyBell mounting plate
3. Screw mounting plate to wall and twist old wires together with SkyBell wires
4. Attach doorbell to wall and fasten with included tool
5. Sync to network and configure app
The hardest part of the entire installation was tucking away the wires back into the wall, since the hole the wires were coming out of had very little space, and there is absolutely no room to leave any dangling wires between the mounting plate and the doorbell. Overall, the entire hardware install took about 10 minutes.
*SkyBell App*
It probably took longer to initially get the app working than it took to install the doorbell. My first attempt was met with and endless spinning "loading" circle. After exiting out, putting the doorbell back into sync mode #hold doorbell button for 20 seconds# and logging back into app, the sync was successful.
Here are the basic features of the mobile app:
- Auto-login: Makes it so you don't have to enter password each time. A 15 second extra delay when someone is at your door can seem like an eternity, so I always keep auto-login on. My phone is secured with a PIN, so I don't feel a strong need for an extra password layer.
- Push notifications: Select whether you want to be notified on your phone when someone rings the bell.
- Do Not Disturb mode: Great for keeping babies asleep, or during family dinners/prayers/etc. You can have the doorbell send a notification to your phone *only*, without actually ringing the bell inside your house.
- Motion Sensor: Door bell rings upon sensing motion. This feature is both awesome and terrible #more on this below#.
- Digital doorbell feature that I didn't test as it states it requires separate hardware that I do not have.
You can get to the doorbell audio/video feed either by clicking on a push notification when someone rings your bell, or manually through the app. From here, you can take a picture #saves to your device#, hold a button to talk with visitor at door, click a checkbox to toggle high/low contrast #makes very little difference from what I've noticed#, and end the call.
*Differences from SkyBell version 1.0*
I researched the original SkyBell, but never ended up purchasing it due to mixed reviews. It seems like they have worked out most of the initial bugs and concerns with this version 2.0. But for those with the version 1.0 wondering if you should upgrade, here is a list of the changes #pulled from their website#:
[*] Upgraded Camera: High-quality picture with a low data rate, so your video loads quickly and does not drop when you're on a cellular network.
[*] Wide-Angle Lens: See more of your doorstep with this wide-angle lens.
[*] Faster On-Demand
[*] Updated Motion Sensor: An upgraded motion sensor provides better performance and faster alerts when your visitor doesn't press the button. A scheduled feature is coming soon.
[*] Contrast Settings: Upgraded camera and optics helps provide the best picture quality when the light behind your visitor is too bring. The Contrast toggle is a easy switch.
[*] Digital Doorbell Compatible: SkyBell version 2.0 is compatible with digital doorbell chimes with the additional adapter accessory, which may be sold separately.
*Coming Soon*
The most exciting features are still on SkyBell's "coming soon" list as read on their website:
[*] Activity History. Have a log of all interactions with your SkyBell, so you can keep track of what's happening and when, while you are away.
[*] Cloud video storage. This could have every motion-triggered event saved for later retrieval. To me, this would be useful just for the sake of having photo/video evidence in the tragic event that someone steals a package off my porch, which fortunately has never happened yet. But I'd love to be prepared for vengeance if/when it ever does!
*Summary*
Pros:
[+] Good value for how useful it is
[+] Always able to get a reliable video feed, whether at home on wifi or away on wireless 4G network
[+] Do Not Disturb is a great feature when you don't want loud noises in the house but want to be notified more discreetly on your phone
[+] Very easy installation, even *I* could figure it out
[+] App is intuitive and easy to figure out
[+] Wider camera field-of-view than v1.0 SkyBell
[+] While you can't expect HD GoPro video quality, it is still decent #640x480# and good enough to easily identify visitors through video feed
[+] Video is also pretty good at night #with porch light on# although it gets a bit grainy
[+] Multiple devices can be sync'd to your SkyBell. Both my wife and I get phone notifications when the doorbell is rung. This is awesome! Multiple devices can't simultaneously view the video feed though; only one at a time.
[+] No monthly/annual fee. Pay once for the unit up front and you're golden!
Cons:
[-] Motion Sensor is great in theory, but *ruined* by the fact that it rings the doorbell on the unit itself, making it super awkward for whoever is approaching your door as it alerts them that you may be looking at them before they even ring the doorbell. Hopefully they will eventually add an "exterior volume" feature that allows us to adjust/turn off the doorbell chime on the unit itself!
[-] Can't save video segments yet, but when they add this, it will be the greatest feature ever.
[-] Can't exit app. Tapping the back button on main screen does nothing, so you have to force close it.
[-] After viewing video feed for 2 minutes straight, it disconnects with "There is a problem connecting to the server, please try again later." Most interactions will be closer to 10 seconds, so this isn't a deal-breaker, but it would still be nice to have this fixed, or at least clarify the error message to something like "Disconnected due to inactivity".
That about covers everything. The novelty has definitely not worn out for me yet. I love just randomly checking out the video feed from my door while I'm at work, even though all I see is an empty porch and some slowly moving clouds. I now look forward to getting visitors so I can try out my SkyBell, instead of being the grinch hermit I used to be when people dared approach my doorstep.
Overall, I am very happy with this unit, and just about every nitpick I had could theoretically be fixed in future firmware updates, which happen automatically as they are released. I am definitely looking forward to any updates or accessories which may be released for my new doorbell. Sample review item provided by SkyBell. Thanks for reading!

Can't Live Without It Now!

This is one of those things where now that I've had it for awhile, I absolutely cannot live without it.
I love it because:
1. I used to miss guests all the time when I am in the backyard and can't hear the door - Now it sends a notification to my phone and I can direct my guest to come around to the back or wait a minute.
2. I can see that there are solicitors at the door so I can hide...or pretend I'm not home. Skybell used to ding on the doorbell itself when you connected to it - alerting the person that you can see them - they have fixed that now so you can see who's at the door with perfect stealth. As my husband (who's at work) surprised me when I was getting video of the doorbell and he started talking to me through it! He then sent me pictures he took of me getting video of the doorbell. Nice, babe...
3. Which brings me to the point that my husband loves that he can see what's going on at the house. Yesterday, nobody was home and there was a special delivery. Hubby was able to direct the delivery guy to give the package to our neighbor.
4. I have a new baby and this is sooo PERFECT for seeing who's at the door so I'm not disturbing my baby by running to the door for nothing. It also lets me see if there are packages at the door.
5. Sometimes I'm just busy or can't get to the door quickly and people will keep ringing the doorbell, knock frantically, or leave. Now I can just ask them to hold on a minute and they settle down knowing someone is coming.
6. I have the option to disable the doorbell so my baby's nap times are not disturbed and I don't have to worry about hanging up angry "Baby Napping - PLEASE DO NOT RING THE DOORBELL!" signs on my front door. Not that people even pay attention to those signs anyways. This feature is true love. Being able to turn on/off your home doorbell with just a swipe of my finger. Love it!!
7. Being a stay-at-home-Mom, I really appreciate being able to see who's at the door for security purposes too. There are so many reports now of people knocking at the door to see who's home (now you can take a picture of them) or charging in once you open the door...there are just so many crazies out there...it's great to have this to help stay safer. The next step up would be get a full blown security system with cameras, etc...but that is way more expensive and more involved to get set up and installed. It's important to note that this product is not designed to be a security system - if you try to compare it to those standards, you will be disappointed. It's meant for you to just be able to see/talk to your guests at the door. Having said that though - the company is well aware of additional features that could make this doorbell help with security type issues and they are going in that direction. Look for those in upcoming models. I believe it will be stuff like being able to connect to a Cloud system so when the motion detector is tripped, it will record a short clip and save it to the Cloud for your retrieval.
8. The doorbell is always connected to WiFi and so you can initiate a call with it whenever and wherever. I know hubby likes knowing when there are people at the door when we're not home. I've also used it when I'm out and about running errands and I want to check to see if my package has arrived yet so I know if I should hurry home or not. The company also sends out updates to the doorbell. Since having it, they've sent out a couple of updates that I know of. 1 fixed the issue of the doorbell ringing when you initiated a call - love that they silenced it now! 2. Changed the sensitivity of the perimeter sensor so that it's not so sensitive - I'm not happy with this change because now it misses sometimes. But they made this change because of the complaints that it was too sensitive. In the future, they will make it so that you can control the sensitivity - that would be great!! 3. There was an update to the Skybell app, changing the appearance, buttons, etc. .
9. I like that I can see in my "Notifications", the last 10 times when Skybell has alerted me.
This device basically allows you to Face-time your doorbell. You can see and talk to whoever is at the door. You install it in place of your existing doorbell. Installation is not hard, but it's a bit of a pain just because there's not a lot of room to stuff wires back in. But once it's installed, you don't have to worry about it so it's not a big deal. It needs to connect to your WiFi. Try to get the strongest signal possible to your Skybell. Even though we met the minimum requirements, video was laggy, it took forever to connect, it acted buggy, and the video quality was very poor. These all were fixed once we got a WiFi Extender to strengthen the signal to the doorbell. We needed to do this anyways because our Router is in the bedroom and we never did get good signal in the living room/kitchen. Now we have good connectivity throughout the house.
Things to note:
The video quality is not that great - but it's perfectly functional. I believe they are working on a new model with HD quality video. The video quality now is slightly worse than my Summer's Infant and Motorola Baby Monitors - but I believe it's a smaller camera as well. It's definitely good enough to identify people and see what they are doing though.
We had a few days of intense winds and the motion detector kept going off - just turn off the motion detector until winds die down.
Make sure the sun doesn't shine directly at the doorbell. Towards the evening, the setting sun shines right at the doorbell and then I can't use the video until the sun sets a little more.
I can't really think of any cons of this product. There are limitations, but even looking at some of the reviews from just a couple of months ago - they've already addressed those issues and improved the product and they aren't stopping. So it's a worthy investment!
This company is really proud of their product and are truly interested in feedback from customers. They are also constantly looking to improve their product. So I'm very happy with backing them up. Great company with great people and great product. Yes, the product could be better - but they know this as well and are working on improvements all the time. But even as the product stands now, it's so packed with features and is so useful, I can whole-heartedly give it my recommendation!

First few weeks, impressions.

Skybell is old technology wrapped up in a good looking device with poor customer service. I purchased it with the intent of a better peephole, see who's at the door. It is a great for someone who is unable to answer the door, disabled or elderly. It allows you to see who's at the door, take their picture, and speak to them. It could also be a good deterrent, more on that later.
It is not a high tech security system. It was not built for that. Do not buy this thinking you are going to keep an eye on your compound and keep the bad guys at bay. Connection is good, not excellent. Anything interferes with it like a server updates (happens almost daily) wireless phone, microwave, or just the hiccups that happen with wireless environments, you will be less than happy with it. When everything is aligned with the planets, and everything is grand, and the system is working perfectly, it works. Right now it is 75% of the time. The camera is quite poor. It isn't good enough to give detail. If you don't know who it is, you will have a hard time picking that person out of a line up. Let me explain.
After playing with friends and relatives over the last few days it was easy to immediately know who it was and fill in the detail that was missing. Today however, I had an individual at the door and no amount of contrast or brightness could give me enough detail to give to police and the washed out colors were so inaccurate that I could not tell what color his hoody or jacket was, purple, black or dark green. He even leaned into the camera to look at it and his face was lacking any detail. He was no more than five feet from the camera and looking straight at it. This was the middle of the afternoon on a clear day. He also had writing on his T-shirt and I couldn't make it out.
It was nice that the motion detector picked him up and I did get a notification. I was able to view him, listen to him, and take his picture when he leaned into the Skybell to look closely at it. This is where I believe Skybell is a good deterrent. It scared him when I talked to him through the Skybell. He jumped back and stumbled on his greeting. He was obviously intimidated by this device and knew someone was watching his every move. In this arena it worked flawlessly, and I was very happy with the results. He left my home for whatever purpose he was there for and had to rethink his approach and look for another victim. If that was his true intention.
Some items that need improvements
1. An increase of Mega Pixels to improve detail and auto focus. At the moment detail is terrible and can be out of focus.
2. More horizontal area versus vertical for narrow front entrances. It cuts off peoples heads and feet when mounted to the right or left of a door. It is only good head on and no closer than 5 Ft from the door. The app cuts of the top and bottom with a black bar when not in landscape mode.
3. Ability to pinch, zoom, and focus during live feeds.
4. Automatic photo capture/video capture with motion detected or when the doorbell is rung. This would assist in knowing who was at the door if you are unable to answer the notification or your too slow on the draw.
5. Ability to record audio and video
6. remove or allow to silent the doorbell on the unit for motion alerts only. Don't want visitors that don't ring the bell be notified it was automatically rang for them. People run fast. I want to capture them before they leave. Another reason for automatic photo or video instantly when the individual is detected.
7. volume control of unit speaker. It can either be too loud or too soft.
8. motion detecter takes to long
to notify should be 5 seconds no longer. Again people are fast when they don't want to be seen or most ring and run. I have yet to capture FedX, UPS, or USPS.
9. Better connect, stronger wireless should be on 5ghz spectrum versus 2.4ghz and working on wireless N.
10. front lighting to improve facial detail eliminates the need of night vision since it is almost useless.
A few words on Skybells customer service. It is poor. I mean really poor.
No 800 service, any poor comments on the product are ignored and removed so others cant see the issues others are having and possible resolution. You will also be blocked by Skybell. Answers turn into questions running you around until you give up. Some individuals try to help but at the same time you can tell they feel helpless and frustrated when they cant get answers from supervisors or managers either.
The best anyone can hope for at the moment is the ability to recognize friends and family at the door. Also to deter any ill intentions or useless solicitations. If they stick around long enough. Keep in mind you will not be able to pick them out in a line up or give enough detail regarding strangers at the door. Customer service is poor and frustrating. One can only hope overtime and newer versions things improve and Skybell becomes everything it can be.

I have had this thing installed for a couple weeks. I am about to take it down and just put the old doorbell back in because this thing just does not work. Here are my thoughts on this product
Installation:
First off, if you can't install this device over existing wires, you are going to have problems. My doorbell is in a tight space so I had to rewire ( I have brick walls so I just extended the existing wires over to the new location ). The plate that you install this unit on has to go flush or it makes installing the actual skybell difficult.
There is an impossibly small hex screw ( included ) that you need to use to secure the skybell to the plate. It is very difficult to do anything with this tool. Even with help its a very difficult process and they should be ashamed for even thinking this was acceptable. My first unit ( more on that ) did not have the screw in its place, but luckily I found it elsewhere in the box. I dropped it once and spent 20 minutes trying to find it since it was so small.
Setup/Syncing
This is the most frustrating experience when it goes wrong. When I got home, I made sure all their special requirements were met. The wifi network was all correct, I turned off the 5gig signals, etc and nothing worked. The sync process stopped at a certain stage and I had to start all over. I never call tech support, but I was stumped and there was nothing online to help me. The tech support was not much help, but after a long experience there, they said to go exchange it. I did ( there is only one of these things in every Best Buy, but luckily I went to another one and got a replacement ). Cue the angry montage of getting that stupid screw in and back to the syncing process and it went perfectly. When the moons are aligned, things went fast and easy......or so I thought. Syncing is very temperamental and as others have noticed, if the perfect alignment of the stars are not correct, it does not work.
Post Install
The thing worked for a few days. When it did work, I found the camera to be good for what I used it for. It worked great in low light too. When someone rang the bell, my phone would alert me but by the time I got through my locked screen and into the app, I would have to hit "start video". It would be nice if it went straight to the video. The delay was huge so if I tried the "push to talk" it would be very delayed and I would talk over the person. The person on the outside was always way to soft and I could not hear them.
Technical Support
I am a technical person. I've been in software development my whole life, I have built computers from scratch just as long and I think I know a thing or two about diagnosing problems and making sure settings are correct. I have an Airport Extreme for my wifi router. There are only a few settings on the thing for me to config. When I was on the phone with them, I explained everything I did, told them my set up and even explained that I was able to take my phone, walk across the street and still get amazing coverage, but after stepping through each step in the sync process, they kept saying my wifi was the problem. They recommended I exchange the unit for a new one and I did and am now back to the same problems as the last unit. Im not going back again or talk with the support because I cannot take going through the same explanations and double checking, unplugging, uninstalling, etc that they had me do. They need better diagnostic tools on this thing.
Final thoughts:
If something works, I like to tell the world. I never spend this much time writing negative reviews, but Im hoping this company sees it and works on improving their product and also a potential buyer sees it and knows what they are getting into. Of course I read negative reviews, but thought that was just someone else having a bad day. Well I guess not. Hopefully this helps others. I am not sure if I will get my money back, but I hope I can still return it. I have tried to make this work as I really wanted it to work. There are nights random people come to our door and try to scam us and this would have come in real handy.

Awesome wifi Doorbell, an eye for your frontdoor

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
The Skybell Wifi video doorbell comes in a small packages along with some mounting screw, mounting plate, lock key, and user manual. Don't be alarm because it looks like there's not much there -- that is because it's that simple to install and use.
To install, I took off my doorbell button in front of my house, just quickly connect the 2 cables (after I did a quick voltage check just to be extra careful), and the red light flashes. I knew this was the correct setup. The next step was to mount the plate using the included screw, connect the wires, tuck it back into the wall and put the door bell on the mounting plate. Using the including tiny alan wrench like key, just turned it a few time and it look the doorbell in place. The wires that came with my doorbell were much bigger so I didn't use the included wire connector but rather use electrical tape for the connection. This took about 15 minutes total as I was taking my time and I think most people who can follow instruction can handle this.
Next step was download the app and sync the doorbell to the account. You have to register for a skybell account where you can add your skybell to it. Speaking of that, behind the skybell there's a sticker with a QR code along with activation code. Take a picture of this or write down that activation code as you will need it. I didn't see it in the manual at all.
Once the app is install, you basically have a few options as you seen in my video. The app has few options to let you name the unit, change it default pictures. You can also hit the call button to see the live feed along with sound. There's an option to turn Do not disturb on, which mean your doorbell in your house will not ring. The motion sensor option let you get notification when it detect motion. The app miss a few thing as I mentioned in the video: No landscape view & notification and sensor are working, but there is no way currently to have notification without door bell ringing and still have doorbell ring when somebody press it.
Video feeds looks fine during the day and at night you can still see outside with the infrared. The camera do not seems to have IR cutoff filter, but you can see the people in front perfectly fine. Audio quality from both direction are very good and especially from the apps I can hear bird chirping, car driving by...etc. Reception was on the spot for me but my router is only about 15 feet away through about 3 set of walls.
For a consumer product this is very well done from a design point of view. The minor issues I point out can be fix with software update and they promise more features coming soon.

I was intrigued when I watched the skybell video. I have to admit I was skeptical that it would work as described and could be installed so easily. Sure enough the existing doorbell wires were all we needed to install it (and using the included mounting hardware). The app is great and you get an alert as soon as someone rings the doorbell (or if you you motion detection on, youll be notified before anyone even rings the bell!)
You can hear who is at the door and click and hold a button to speak to them. For someone with young kids this is a great innovation. I no longer have to run to the door when the bell rings (most of the time it's just a delivery). If the neighborhood kids come calling for their friends I can simply buzz them that the kids will be right out (or now's not a good time, etc).
I cant stress enough how easy the installation was or how well the app works.
You can also access the camera at any time so if I know someone is coming to pick me up I can turn on the camera and watch the driveway from my phone instead of waiting by the door/window.
I can also turn on motion detection if Im waiting for a package but the driver doesnt ring the bell.
I keep thinking of more and more uses for it.
Highly recommended for both ease of installation and functionality.

Pros: Camera angle was fine. Camera clarity was passable. Nigh time view was better than expected.
Cons: I should have listened to the reviews. Skybell is not ready for prime time, don’t buy it. I followed the instructions and it loaded fine. I received a notification on my Android phone when I pressed the button however, the motion detection didn’t work. After about a day the doorbell lost the WiFi connection. The light went through all the light cycles including the green. I tried several times to sync the unit with my network but the green light lasted a few seconds then lost the connection again. I unloaded the application and reloaded it to see if that helped but it didn’t. Then I deleted the device from the app and I could never add back in. I searched the internet for some guidance and found out if I held the button down for 45 seconds it would reboot the camera but that didn’t work either so I turned off the power by switching off a breaker, an option if the reboot didn’t work. It seemed to help, however, as I mentioned before, the app never allowed me to add the device. I’m returning the unit for a full refund and the primary reason is the company made it very difficult to find their contact information. Links to “Contact Us” resulted in a 404 Error message. Searching further I finally found a location where I could send an email to the company but I that time I had already decided to return the unit. I refuse to pay for an undeveloped product sold by companies just to fund further research and development of their product.

Sky bell 2.0 Review
Avoid this product unless you want an expensive $200 door chime
I bought this back in August of this year. At first it was working ok, then it went downhill after about 1.5 months. I didn’t change anything.
1. The time it takes to answer the alert on the phone until I can actually see the video ranges from 5 sec to 15 seconds. Most of the time if I can even see the video, its of the people walking away (at lease 6 feet from the camera)
2. If the video works (which is right now 20% of the time), the video is not constant and freezes. I can turn the video on from my phone and then walk outside and it doesn’t even update. I checked all the wireless settings. 2.4GHz, 20MHz, Ookla shows my speed at 50 Mbps constant connection. I can FaceTime with family just fine without interruptions. Even in the recorded video, it freezes and its streaky.
3. I went through Skybell support and checked EVERYTHING wth them. I even showed them my speed test screen shots and shared all the router settings. They didn’t know what to do and blamed it on my spotty connection. It’s only spotty on the Skybell. For all my other devices it works fine. I asked to be able to return it for a refund and they said to take it back to the place where I bought it. Best Buy only has a 14 day return policy.
Conclusion: I’m left with a $200 door bell chime, not a video doorbell.
STAY AWAY FROM SKYBELL!!!!!

Installation and setup were simple enough, but the performance was a disappointment. The only way I could get the motion detector to work was to wave my hand around a foot or two in front of the device. It never detected me as I approached the door, nor as I stood in front of the door moving around. The video quality was also unsatisfactory. I don't know if it is due to the VGA resolution or a lighting issue, but even in the middle of the day the image on my phone was so dark that I couldn't recognize myself. I returned the product. Maybe the SkyBell HD is better, but since it doesn't work with Android yet, I won't be trying it.

Everything went really well with the skybell and we love it. The camera quality is really good. The app is easy to use and you only need to use it when they press the doorbell. The installation took about 20 minutes and was easy since we have a wood wall. Motion sensor works great and even my wife likes having this on our door. She doesn't like techy stuff. I got this as a gift and will likely get it as a gift for someone else.

We bought this over the "Ring" doorbell mainly because of the "Do Not Disturb" feature, the on-demand viewing, and the faster video load times. The install process was horrible. As others have stated, there is nowhere to put the wires in/behind the mount, so I had to have my wife pushing it into place while I sat there with a pudger stick pushing wires into whatever gaps I could find. Once we finally got it installed, we had to go through the setup process 4 times before it finally connected correctly. Once we did that, we noticed it only had 1-2 bars on the WiFi signal, despite my phone having full wifi signal from even further out. So I went and bought an extender to make sure that it would always have the maximum signal. It now constantly has 3 bars and the connection is great, but that was another $50 I had to spend. Although I like the quick, on-demand video, the quality is miserable. I understand that this is to aid in compression for viewing over cellular data, but I have security cameras on the house at 720p that stream with only a 1-2 second delay. There is no reason for this poor video quality. The sound quality is excellent. In fact, the built in speaker works a little too well. My neighbors have told me that they can hear me speaking to anyone at the front door. The biggest disappointment by far is that the "Do Not Disturb" feature does NOT work as advertised. It is supposed to turn off the chime in my house, but it only turns off the chime/pop-ups on my phone. This was a huge selling point for us because we just had a baby and don't want the UPS or FedEx drivers waking up our kids when they ring the doorbell. At this point I am considering wiring a power supply through the wall and removing the doorbell chime from the system so that it just sends the alerts to my phone. I'm giving this 2 stars instead of 1 because the basic functions do work.
