This was a very indulgent purchase. After all, how many times do you really need a keyboard on a remote? That said, searching is now a real pleasure and I take advantage of the keyboard more often than I thought I would. The automatic lights are also a very nice feature since I always watch TV in the dark. If you use your Tivo as much as I do, just buy it. You won't regret it.

My Roamio came with the newer remote but this one blows it away based on the following: 1. RF remote If you've never used an RF remote and only used line-of-sight IR remotes, you'll quickly realize what you've been missing. Although I thought it would be natural to still point the remote at the Tivo box.. its not. When you're not forced to do it, you will learn how much easier it is. Just trust me on that. 2. Illuminated keys When I watch TV at night, I often have the lights off. I used to hold the non-illuminated remote up, tilted towards the TV, hoping the light from the TV would help me see the keys. What makes the illumination feature even better is that it only lights up when the ambient light is low enough to need it. 3. Keyboard If you use the YouTube or the search feature on any of the apps, you'll appreciate the keyboard. Like I said.. once you have it, you'll quickly realize what you've been missing. Its well worth the price.

RF remote works well without needing line of sight. Keyboard is nice, too.

I purchased this to use with my older RF dongle. It didn't work, but TiVo sent a new dongle for free. Love the RF - the remote works great even without direct line-of-site.

This remote is teachable for your equipment using other remotes. Great solution for our sound bar that wouldn't program to the basis TiVo remote

The slide is a must have for those that are use to having backlit buttons.
