On Tom Wolfe's latest studio effort, "Solerovescent." Wolfe has assembled, IMHO, the perfect rhythm section for this project: Tom Wolfe (guitars), Tim Goodwin (acoustic bass on all tracks that include horn), Chris Kozak (acoustic bass on all guitar trio songs) & Danny Gottlieb (drums on all tracks). On "Solerovescent," Wolfe's composing & playing both reach a new high & there is not one "filler track," which many CDs - even jazz - do contain. Every song takes the listener to a unique emotional place. Plus, the 10 tracks on this CD are in what seems to be the perfect order, mood wise, energy-level wise & even KEY wise. This is a very well-thought-out CD. Fans of all styles of jazz guitar owe it to themselves to own this CD. I cannot recall in recent years owning a collection of songs that stands up this well to repeated listenings. All I will say of my own involvement (trumpet & flugelhorn on 6 of the 10 tracks) was that it was truly MY honor to work with such a wonderful group. I HIGHLY recommend this CD to jazz lovers of all styles.
