I liked this movie. I like the characterization of Han Solo. The story of how Han gained the Falcon needed to be told, and addressed a continuity problem in a "A New Hope" where a distance unit was used to express a transit time. I did find the scene that tried to top the asteroid field scene from "The Empire Strikes Back" a bit over the top, and thus the one star ding. This is a solid entry in the Star Wars saga, in my opinion.

People hated on this movie but I thoroughly enjoyed it! I thought it fit in very well with the Star Wars universe. How could you not enjoy the origin story of how Han Solo met Chewbacca?! And how he also acquired the Millenium Falcon!? The actors they put in for this movie did an amazing job at telling the story they were trying to convey. If you were on the fence about watching this, JUST DO IT!!!

I really wanted to like this latest installment in the Star Wars universe, but it just wasn't up to the same level as the other recent films. The characters were all two-dimensional and a lot of acting talent was squandered on phoned in performances. While it was still entertaining and it was far better than episodes I, II and III, this film still left me feeling disappointed with the missed opportunities to energize fans.

This movie got lots of hate, but its mostly unfounded. Let's be real, filling Harrison Ford's shoes is tough. so this movie started off at a disadvantage. Add to that the directors quitting half-way through shooting? All that said, it came out great. Acting is on point, story is pretty good, action is good. It was a story that didn't need to be told, but it was fun to see it anyway.

Great prequel. I have to admit the first viewing I had to get past the young Charlie Sheen voice and looking for Ron Howard’s brother and hints of his prior directions. So after about 10 views I lived it especially on closed caption where you catch the real spelling of Keri with a Q!! And other important dialog. Like other SW I want details and next hints. Like why is Crimson Dawn a Sith?

I didn't go see this in the theater because a lot of critics didn't like it. They were wrong! This is a solid Star Wars universe story worthy of the name. It has a good narrative, good action sequences, and introduces a number of characters prominent in the Star Wars franchise and helps fill in the backstory on many of the Star Wars relationships depicted in the rest of the films..

Solo got a bad rap. This was a very enjoyable movie based in the Star Wars universe but not heavy on the Force. This is more of a heist/caper story with questions of who is loyal to who/what. Yes, it's not Harrison Ford playing Han, but Alden Ehrenreich does a decent job. I am a huge Star Wars fan and even though this is not my favorite, it was still fun!

Although it doesn’t have the originality of the first Star Wars it has a charm and storytelling style that works as a prelude to the original. After a rough beginning it becomes a quite entertaining ride. The video is a bit flat not making the usually over-the-top HDR choices in favor of a more natural looking style. Very good resolution and detail with an excellent Dolby Atmos soundtrack.

This is a review of the steelbook art only. I'll make this short and sweet: this is a beautiful steelbook. If you collect steelbooks and enjoyed Solo, do yourself a favor and keep an eye out for this steelbook. It may not be available anymore at Best Buy, but if you can find it elsewhere it's a must-have for any Star Wars fan's steelbook collection.

Of the four Star Wars films that have been released under Disney’s stewardship, the two spin offs have been much stronger than the main saga entries. This was confirmed for me when I took in Ron Howard’s SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY last night. Though not without flaws, the tale of young Han Solo and how he met Chewbacca and Lando Calrissian offers up some entertaining performances, great sci fi visuals, and thrilling action sequences. While lead Alden Ehrenreich’s turn as the iconic Solo will never eclipse character originator Harrison Ford’s, he doesn’t do a bad job. Furthermore, the rest of the cast is strong enough to carry the film and give you less time to be jarred by the role change. Woody Harrelson is typically magnetic as Han’s roguish mentor, Tobias Beckett. Meeting in the midst of a battle involving the Empire, Beckett immediately demonstrates his cleverness. Emilia Clarke, of GAME OF THRONES fame, plays Han’s fellow Corellian and love interest, Qi’ra. She’s Han’s rock but when they meet again after a forced separation, she harbors secrets the naïve Solo discounts. Possibly the most memorable performance is Donald Glover’s inspired Lando Calrissian. Charismatic, duplicitous, and handsome, Calrissian is a great foil to Han’s rough around the edges approach. Glover was a great pick to inhabit Billy Dee Williams’ caped gambler. We also get Paul Bettany playing against type as a scarred and sinister crime boss, Thandie Newton as Beckett’s gruff and suspicious partner, and Jon Favreau as a friendly and energetic four armed alien pilot. Perhaps my favorite performance, though, is Phoebe Waller-Bridge as Lando’s droid companion, L3-37. She steals scenes with her passion for robotic liberation politics and delivering withering retorts. Featuring top-notch special effects and stellar production design, the film mostly looks good. As with any Star Wars film, the costumes and character designs are magnificent. CGI beasts and ‘bots are integrated flawlessly into the visuals, though the practical effects are what give the film its lived-in and relatively naturalistic quality. My one beef with how the film looks is that the presentation is a bit on the darker side. Now that’s appropriate for a film dealing with a bunch of outlaws, but it makes the viewing a little too murky. Besides that small complaint, the rest of the technical aspects are strong. Action sequences and compositions are well done and engaging. The script by legendary saga scribe Lawrence Kasdan and son Jonathan Kasdan provides just a little too much fan service but otherwise gives a pleasing structure to this origin story while still laying the groundwork for future adventures or spinoffs. In that way, it reminds me of how Marvel does its cinematic universe building with Easter eggs and hints about the rich galactic tapestry these characters reside within. Although it didn’t exactly set the box office on fire, perhaps because of the troubled production where director Ron Howard was brought on after original directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller were fired, or because people were skeptical about the mostly unknown Ehrenreich taking on such an iconic role, I nevertheless hope we see more of young Han’s (mis)adventures. SOLO: A STAR WARS STORY is entertaining, despite a few minor quibbles, and features some intriguing plot points that are begging for follow up. Trouble behind the scenes gave the public the impression that the final product might not be good but I’m happy to report that it’s better than its reputation suggests. Along with its sister spinoff, ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY, it proves that Disney is capable of producing a solid Star Wars story. I’m actually looking forward to future spinoffs more than the saga capping Episode IX. If you love Star Wars and are open to a different take on Han Solo, I highly recommend you give this a shot.

I really enjoyed my time watching this movie. While thinking about it more deeply left me feeling like it could have been so much more and more unique, I am glad that this movie is here to introduce some cool new characters, show the kessel run, see Chewbacca have an expanded role and spend more time with Lando. Lots of fun, but would only say very good instead of great.

As a Star Wars fan for 35 years this movie was just ok!!! I think the kids liked it more then I, but it was hard not seeing Harrison Ford and the actor here could not make me like him. It was nice to see Storm Troopers and all, but something was lacking. Disney does not have the same magic that Lucasfilms had. I do hope they can learn to do better. The best part was when the annoying droid dies, we all laughed so hard and was happy that the droid was gone. The train thing was so awesome, lots of action and a new kind of trooper, give me more of that. The story also did not fit with the other Star Wars movies for example they brought back someone evil that was dead at the end and this places the movie off its time line if he is still alive, I know he was alive in the cartoon, but it needs more explanation as people not familiar are like WHAT?? Plus there were other questions that make one go ... What??? Anyway, enjoyable movie. more as a rental no way I can watch this several times a year the way we do with the original Star Wars movies.

Part of me thought that this might finally be the Star Wars movie that I didn't bother to put in my collection. A little underwhelmed when I saw it in the theater, though there were several very enjoyable sections. Took the leap anyway while it was on sale. On second and third viewing, no regrets. It's still a fun watch. The kids are definitely fans.

Solo received a lot of bad reviews, but for me it is a bit of an underrated film. Besides the small political views that are pushed I can get over that and a pretty good movie. The end of the movie really saves itself for me, without the last act it would just be an average film.

Just kidding. Since Disney has acquired the title of Star Wars, I've been as skeptical as the next diehard fan. While this film is nowhere near perfect, I found it very entertaining. I loved the character reveal (no spoilers), I loved Dryden Vos's office of Easter eggs, I loved some of the new (to screen) species. I liked it a good deal. Love the Lucasfilm story group.

This film didn't do great in theatres, but it really was an enjoyable experience. The cast did well and the plot moves along at a decent pace. It may have answered a few questions nobody asked, but I think it was weighed down more by the previous Last Jedi film, which proved fairly controversial. In my opinion, this was a superior film and deserved a better turnout.

This is in my top 3 star wars films, hands down. It has the magic, story, characters, and feel of the original films. If it weren't for the poor reviews of last jedi, this would have done so much better, and it really bums me out. This movie is fantastic!! Quit being wrapped up in the "star wars is horrible now" phase and watch this.

The Han story i didnt know we needed. Actors were great and fit their parts. Story was decent even if it was corny at times. Twists were a plus and made the movie much more interesting. The comedic factor of some of the characters was amazing. Spoiler: loved how they tied it in with Maul at the end. Hope they can somehow keep that going.

Purchased this movie since I didn’t see it in theatres. Really bought it to test out my new SONY BRAVIA 900/65, SONY UBP-X700 player, and SONY HST5000 sound system. Man, it rocked! Great movie, and with my setup, great theatrical sound. Enjoyed the movie immensely, and the bonus of pausing to go to the restroom, or make popcorn!!!

Let's face it, if not for Star Wars Ep VIII - The Feminists Strike Back, this movie would have killed it at the box office. Fun back story, some really great nuggets for the original fans of the original movies. It's not perfect, but it's a solid B+. And that one moment near the end, during the Kessel Run...classic. I laughed out loud.
