An unfair reputation
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I cannot argue that this is the weakest of the new Disney-produced Star Wars films. But let’s blame Phil Lord and Chris Miller for failing to produce what they were asked in a timely manner and give Ron Howard credit for picking up the pieces as well as he did.

A solid Star Wars movie that deserved more praise
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For some reason, this movie was not as well received as was expected. I am not sure why. Not quite as good as Rogue One, but still a fun movie. Ron Howard directed, and Lawrence Kasdan co-wrote the script (he wrote Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, the latter of which is my favorite Star Wars movie behind New Hope). Neither disappoints. Also, I thought Alden Ehrenreich was very good. He had the almost-impossible task of recreating Han Solo, and he pulled it off. Of course, you wonder what it would be like to see a young Harrison Ford in the role, but that can't happen. The whole family enjoyed this one, and it's worth having in our movie library.

The Worst Start Wars, but still good
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not my favorite of the Star Wars-related series. But, that doesn't mean it isn't enjoyable. Cinematography was beautiful, and there are a lot of great moments, but I was definitely feeling the behind the scenes drama of the director swapping while watching.

Pretty cool movie, and it's Star Wars
||Posted . Owned for 11 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pretty cool movie, and it's Star Wars. As far as Star Wars goes, this film did it's best. We could argue back and forth about the sequels, but we are talking about Solo. This film did what it could to re-introduce the famous Han Solo and Chewbacca. I think they did a great job with the material they had. In addition, the CGI and action was superb. This film in my opinion, is much more entertaining and had better writing overall then the most recent Star Wars sequel films. Would recommend to anybody looking for an out of this world experience in their home cinema.

Better than The Last Jedi (By Far)
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a Star Wars fan for 35 years, The Last Jedi crushed my spirit. It pandered to modern day ideologies in a way that lacked any nuance or creativity, and ignored the most important aspects of a Star Wars story: the characters and the connection those characters have with the fans. Solo didn't fall into these traps. The acting is on point, the setting feels more like Star Wars, and for the most part, these felt like the Solo/Lando/etc. of old. There were a few surprises that I greatly appreciated, and I'm happy this film was made. It's just a pity that it suffered for TLJ's mistakes. As for the Blu-ray: great features, great transfer, great sound, and a great experience (as expected). No complaints there.

A Real Fun Ride
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It took a few minutes to get interesting, but once it took off, it really took off. I enjoyed the story, the characters, and the plot twists. I enjoyed how the references to the original trilogy were done, as a sort of fan service without feeling like the writers were recycling material or plot ideas. I was surprised more than once throughout this film, and each time it was a pleasant one. Even when I was expecting a twist, the ones we got were almost never the ones I expected. I'm not afraid to say it. I've liked these Star Wars spinoffs, both Rogue One and Solo, quite a bit better than the latest few Episodes of the actual series itself (Ep. VII, VIII).

A well done back story
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The movie opens with action and grabs you right away. The storyline of how Han Solo and Chewbacca meet is funny and endearing to anyone who has been in a relationship. They sometimes start out rocky. Solo fits in with the other Star Wars movies and is one of my new favorites. Now that I have watched it several times, I like to look in the background and see what Ron Howard put in the scene. I watched it twice in the theaters and once since it came out, and I have enjoyed it more each time I saw it. And if you are not a Star Wars fan I think you can also enjoy this movie, as my wife found it quite enjoyable and she doesn't really have any strong feelings towards Star Wars one way or the other.

a fun entertaining star wars movie
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.this movie has a good story, fun circumstances for the characters and very good overall within the star wars universe...it didnt deserve all this blind angry negativity that most gave especially since those internet critics also didnt actually see the movie or from the purist whos at this point just complain because they want to complain. the movie tells a story of a young Solo and a personal adventure he went through and it left me wanting more and hope that there is a sequel because it was that much fun and i recommend it. its not the greatest star wars movie ever made but it is a very good story in the star wars universe that is worth watching

Ignore the box office numbers
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.A worthy entry into the early Star Wars universe. Had this been released as an end of year film, the box office numbers would not have suffered from Star Wars overload, with this following only 5 months after The Last Jedi. The weaving of what we already know about Han Solo and Chewbacca with this early days story is very well done, meaning inside references and chuckles throughout. Alden Ehrenreich carries off the Solo irreverence, wit, and attitude flawlessly and Ron Howard's direction suits the series incredibly well. It's a don't miss for Star Wars fans and a reason for younger fans who do not know the original Star Wars movie to get on it!

Always been a huge Star Wars fan...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I am a huge Star Wars nut, have been for 40 years. This was good - but not the best (Episode V, still the best). I highly recommend it to anyone that is a fan of the series, but Disney - hasn't really shown us anything new - I want more. I want some dark side exploration, not always the rebellion. I would love a movie where it's focus was the empire, dark side, sith, bounty hunters, just something, something other than more of the same side of the story. This movie - is great, I am only wishing Disney would choose to support fans of both sides dark and light. Let's get some darkness out of the Star Wars universe - as that is more than half the story anyway - how about some focus.

Not so much for a young Hans Solo.
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you are a Star Wars geek, then it’s a must to keep your collection going. I just didn’t like the young Hans Solo. He tried very hard, but was miscast. He just took me out of the movie. Never engaged me. Rogue One was much better.

Most of the film dark
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought to check out the brilliance of the new Blu-ray player. Did not see any “daylight” until the end. It was hard to understand the dialogue also. Turn on close captioning. It was a film problem, because I’m not deaf.

A better film than reviews give it credit for...
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Solo: A Star Wars Story is a must-see for fans of the original trilogy. It's fun to see it cover so many bits from Han Solo's past, from what Corellia looks like to the actual Kessel run. But if you're reading this you probably have already seen it and want to know if Best Buy's 4K version is worth it, and the answer is yes. Even if you only have a regular HD setup now, if you are thinking about upgrading to 4K, and eventually you probably will, this is the version to get. It also comes with a code for the digital version. So digital code, blu ray, 4k blu ray, and extras disc are what you get, and the film looks gorgeous.

So many questions!
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Well, it answers some of those questions and leaves so many more unanswered. However, it's a good way to open several cans of worms (a.k.a. sequels) for a beloved character that we always wanted to know more about. It's fun!

Han Solo is Great
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. It has that Star Wars feel to it that we all know and love and it tells part of the backstory to a character who is known in every household across the US. It mixes a little bit of humor in with a whole lot of action and will keep you enticed throughout the whole thing. A gorgeous movie that delivered on some key nostalgia with Han and Chewie’s burgeoning friendship, the Millennium Falcon and young Lando Calrissian. It was a fun ride with a nice twist at the end that rewarded fans of the prequel trilogy and Clone Wars animated series.

This movie deserves your purchase
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.SOLO did so poorly at the box that it caused lucasfilm to reevaluate their release structure and to be fair this was too soon after last jedi. The fan backlash from last jedi caused a lot of people to miss this film and thats a shame because these anthology films have almost been more fun than the chapter installments. Check this one out! You wont regret it.

What a great ride!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This movie gets better everytime I watch! Seen it 3 times now and love it more and more. Feels like the originals as a feel good action adventure. Alden plays Han to a tee! I can picture him growing into Harrison's Han. Also the rest of trio of Han, Chewie, and of course the Falcon completes this origin story. My original take was that I felt the story was different than I had in my head for 40 years but now it feels like the canon is should be. Love having the physical media with the digital option too. Only wish they still included the DVD to play in my legacy DVD players still. Here's hoping for a #Solo2!
