A more straight-ahead release from the group

Josh Homme & Co.'s third album, Songs For The Deaf, consists primarily of an accessible take on the stoner rock that has been Homme & Nick Oliveri's stock in trade for over 10 years up to this point. There is an engaging radio-style presentation to this album that makes it an interesting listen from start to finish. More of the tendencies to take some instrumental and musical left turns take a backseat on this release, but this is good driving music and probably compares well to the band's first s/t release for that reason. The more oddball QOTSA can be found on Rated R, Era Vulgaris, and the most recent release, Like Clockwork. This is definitely an enjoyable effort and definitely cemented Homme's status as one of the pre-eminent creative forces in rock music.

I've listened to this album several times now after buying it and am glad I finally bought it. The hits from this album are likely 5 years or more old by now, but they still get air time on rock stations where I'm at. However, I usually buy CDs with hits on them just to hear the deeper tracks on the album. And this CD definitely delivers with "First it Giveth" and "The Sky is Fallin'." Those are two really catchy tunes. The rest of the album is solid, though perhaps less memorable, but they do end it with a hidden track that is catchy on it's own, "Mosquito."
If you're familiar with the hits "Go with the Flow" and "No one Knows," and enjoyed them, do yourself a favor and checkout the rest of the CD. You'll be glad you did!

QOTSA have a very distinct sound. Their music is very melodic. It reminds of a movie sound track a sort of back ground music. The only song which differs is “No One Knows” which is very up beat. This band is not for everyone it is definitely and acquired taste band.
