Through it you can control up to 32 speakers wirelessly. I experienced an issue where my unit went belly up in the first 60 days of common use. Sonos support handled the issue professionally and timely and had me return the unit for a new one. However as this is the main point of connection for the system to work, while it was being replaced I was limited to wired use which was only possible because I had the Play5.

Connects to every music source and does it without fail. Sound is great indoors and out. Quality build. Only downside is the price but you certainly get your money's worth.
