Superb speaker with smooth sound around our outdoor living space and pool. We needed something to move around the pool instead of blasting outdoor speakers and this works perfectly. Sounds as good as any of my indoor sonos speakers. Highly recommend.

    Portable Speaker for Home

I like the Sonos Move. It’s all got the great sound and features that Sonos is known for, plus a battery that lets you move it around. With Bluetooth built-in you can technically take it anywhere, but for me this is mostly going to live in its base at home, occasionally moving somewhere else when the situation calls for it. The portability is the major thing you should consider when looking at this because I think there are better-sounding smart speakers out there for the money, but with them you are always tethered to where they are plugged in. Setup was very easy. This is my first Sonos speaker and my first experience with the app and I’m really impressed with how it is setup. I was able to get connected to the network, add all my music services, and connect Google Assistant in under 5 minutes. Most of the other speakers in my house are Google Homes or Cast-enabled, so I was anticipating using the Move in a similar way, but the app is also really nice for queuing up and controller music as well. The sound from the Move is great. It’s detailed and a good, but not overwhelming, amount of bass. With the Autotruplay, which uses the microphones to tune the speaker to the environment, it sounds great wherever it is and the effect is noticeable. It had no problem filling my first floor with sound, but as good as the single tweeter and woofer sound I think it would sound even better as a pair in true stereo, though spending another $400 to make that happen is a tall order. The speaker itself is quite stout. The handle in the back works well for picking it up and carrying it short distances, but it’s just not the sort of thing I can imagine toting around outside my house. The Bluetooth sound quality is good, though not as good as it is when it’s connected via WiFi and you lose most of the features in Bluetooth mode. It’s also missing support for the higher quality Bluetooth codecs like aptX HD or LDAC. It feels like it’s most at home… at home; going with you to whatever you’re doing, whether it’s out in the garage, in the backyard, folding clothes in the laundry room, etc. The portability, while you do pay a price for it, does negate the need to have a smart speaker in all the rooms you want because you can just take this one with you. The battery life is quoted at 10 hours - I never had a chance to really run it down because most of the time it ended up back in its base after 20 or 30 minutes of using it somewhere else. Other items: - The WiFi connection is solid and I never had any issues keeping connected to the network, but I was surprised to find out it only has 802.11n, not 802.11ac. It’s not a problem by any means, but it’s a little disconcerting that it’s using last-generation (and soon to be last-last-generation) WiFi. - Chromecasting seems to work well at first, but I found that my phone would lose it’s connection to the Move after a short time. I know Google Assistant and Casting are a recent addition for Sonos, so I’m just chalking that up to a bug that will get fixed at some point later on. The speaker is extremely well built and the buttons all have nice feedback to them (even the capacitive buttons up top) Overall I really do like the Move. I think it’s a great speaker with great features, but for the price you could get 2 Sonos One’s in and do a stereo pair, or you could spend $100 more on a Play:5. That’s not even counting the non-Sonos options. If you get the Move, get it because you want a really great speaker that’s not too hard to move around

First I want to say this is my first venture into a Sonos Product. The next thing I wanna say is I never want to go back to other speaker manufacturers. I hate to say it but Bose is in big trouble this is the kinda quality that others are putting out because this is the first speaker in my entire life that I have seen so many outstanding useful features. And. They. All. Work. Flawlessly. I’ll start with the elegant packaging that Sonos have here as it is ensured that nothing will be broken by the time it gets to you. Everything is snug and packed with pristine that it’s mind-blowing. I normally don’t pay too much attention to the presentation of the device but Sonos gave it a wow factor. What you get in the box is a few documentations here in there to get you started and easy with setup, the Speaker itself with a cloth carrying bag to put it in, and the charging base. Setup here was extremely intuitive, but it just downright work with the Sonos App. There weren’t any headaches or Frustrations with the app. The Sonos App walk-through through the setup process which is quick and easy. Sonos did a great job conveying instructions to the user while letting the app be smooth and useable. There is always an audio chime to let you know your voice or touch has been registered. You would think this would be easy for other manufacturers to follow but they don’t. Design is ultra-modern with touch-sensitive buttons. The speaker looks great in any area of the house. I like the smooth texture matte texture on the device. I love the design element that Sonos made this Move but the downside is if you are looking for a white version for your all-white Sonos setup there is none just yet. Play/Pause, VOL Up/Down and a "Mute Mic" for the voice assistants are all located at the top of the device. while on the back is Bluetooth, Wifi, and Power buttons are on the back. USB-C port for charging is also there and can be useful when you are not around the charging base. This comes with something called auto “Trueplay” which the Move comes with six microphones on the top of the device to Automatically fine-tune the sound to your rooms preference when on Wifi. The speaker then auto set the EQ giving you rich sound no matter where you are and they work! It’s subtle but the adjustments are there. I heard before on other Sonos speakers that true play forces you to use your phone to fine-tune the speaker to the environment. Well here everything is automatic and you don’t have to go waving your phone around the room all day looking like a madman. Sound quality is a game-changer as this one speaker can out preform and even outdo my own over a grand surround system. I have never witness sound so good, so perfect, so clear in all my days of owning speakers. I honestly didn’t know what I was expecting from a speaker at this price but I was floored with how the Bass can really move everything on its own. Everything from a pin drop to full layered Orchestra piece tracks. The drives Drivers and acoustics play well with each other delivering the sound you will be happy with. One mid-woofer integrated into the speaker; mid-range vocal with super deep bass. You can feel and hear it all coming from the Sonos move. Airplay 2 worked just perfectly with iOS 13 and played with the rest of my home setup. Not only does this one speaker fills up an entire living room but can fill up my whole downstairs with sound. I have no doubt this will be perfect for parties or barbecues at your home...because not only you can move the speaker around the house but you can also take the Move to wherever you want with the added Bluetooth inside the speaker. That’s right you can finally move your Sonos speaker outside the home and off of Wifi. I will be real and say the implementation of Bluetooth is pretty basic here but at least it’s here! Now you can have that same Sonos sound inside your home to the beach, skatepark, work, party, friend's house or just anywhere. I have moved the speaker several times around the house and haven’t had any issues with weight. It is quite heavier than any speaker of this size that I own but I don’t mind the weight of the device. It gives you a feeling of “huff” to the device as you move it around, even if you happen to drop this thing it does withstand drops and falls. I would give Sonos five stars on durability alone if I could. The speaker is weatherproof but the charging base is not so I wouldn't leave it on a patio table at all times. You can pair two Moves on WiFi for stereo sound if you have them so that's nice and No, the Move doesn't pair with Sonos Sub because this is designed to be moved around. The battery is great for Sonos' first attempt to get into the portable sound field. I found that battery was the weakest part of this product but it held enough stamina to get me through the day. All features turned on got me around 9.5 hours at full charge with Wifi and about 30 minutes less with Bluetooth on the go. Just when you really getting into the speaker the battery dies, this is the only area I can see them improving on but the Charging Base charges up the speakers fast to get you out of the door. Again to the Speaker has a USB-C charging on the back so the base isn't required for charge. Trust me you gonna need this if you plan on partying with this speaker all night somewhere. Also maybe this is me asking for too much but if a device is this feature-rich at this size I mean why not just put a Qi/Wireless charging inside the top of the device and/or NFC for easier pairing for Android users? no matter what you get here is amazingly done from Sonos. Voice Assistance pushes this device over the edge with its features and voice commands Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant are here on this Sonos Move making life much easier. Yes, Voice assistance here is useful. I was able to change songs on my Apple music Playlist with my voice without using another iOS device since the speaker was on Airplay. Doing dishes, gardening, or crafts with my hands being so busy I was able to do it all by voice with Alexa. Alexa allow me to do all kinds of useful things from turning on the Xbox, Guard dogging my house, tell me flights, and I was quite impressed with the Sonos implementation of her. Google Assistant I don't use but I suspect that it's just as good on this speaker. I love the one-touch button on the speaker to turn on or off Alexa/Google when needed on the fly. As you can tell I love this Sonos Move, it's one of the best speakers I've ever used. In fact, I also used it on Apple TV as a way to have a home theatre experience and it kept up with my own expensive soundbar/woofer! This is not only feature-rich but it just works while being elegant and modern. With the added fact that everything is intuitive without a steep learning curve. Let us not forget they fair well in updating their software so you will always be up to date. All my time of reviewing products this is not easy for companies to do. Sonos have me as a new customer and if they keep up the hard work many more will come.

Note: This review will be focused primarily on Wi-Fi mode and using Airplay 2. Bluetooth functions the same as a normal Bluetooth speaker would I work from home. So, I move around the house a lot and I've accumulated quite the number of Bluetooth speakers over the years. Among all of these, the Logitech Ultimate Ears series have always been my favorite and regardless, I'll always have a soft spot for them. Then, I seen Sonos was coming out with their own version of a portable speaker. Not only was it portable, but rugged and designed for the indoor/outdoor and elements. Never having owned the Sonos brand before, but hearing great things about it, I thought I would give it a try. I'm so glad I did - it was worth the investment and now ranks as my favorite portable speaker! As soon as I got it in the mail, I was in shock at how big the retail packaging was. This speaker was much bigger than I had anticipated. Opening the box itself felt like a moment to indulge. I has so much quality and inside, the speaker itself with inside a micro-fiber type bag with draw-strings. I immediately knew that this was going to be a high quality device, given what I knew about the Sonos name. Taking it out of the box, I noticed while it seemed huge, it's not TOO big, as to be awkward and was a bit smaller than I expected after seeing the size of the box. It has some heft to it, which makes it feel super high quality, but not over-burdening. I also want to mention the charger. It's an oval-shaped ring with a very generous cord length to the wall plug. Wherever you sit the charger, it will take up some space, but is very low-profile. I put it on charge and out-of-the-box, it was nearly topped off. It only needed about 15-20 minutes to get to full battery level. While it was charging, I downloaded the Sonos Controller app to my iPhone 11 Pro Max and iPad Pro 12.9" (3rd gen) - all running iOS 13.1.2. I turned on the speaker and set it up via the app on my phone first. Everything went great, got it set up on my Wi-Fi and the firmware auto-updated itself, which was nice to see. After this, I went to set the Sonos app up on my iPad and it would not, for the life of me, find the speaker. I tried putting it in "join" mode via the bottom button on the back and still could not locate it. After several hours of this, I rebooted my router. After my network came back up, I went back into the app on my iPad and it went in immediately, no fuss. Now, since this is my first real Wi-Fi speaker, I've had to get used to a few differences over my normal Bluetooth ones. There are two modes, which are select-able via a button on the back. Wi-Fi or Bluetooth. Basically, when at home, you want it in Wi-Fi mode to take advantage of the full set of features. If you venture out, then you can put it in Bluetooth mode and pair it to your device and it will act as a normal Bluetooth speaker and connect automatically when the speaker is turned on and in Bluetooth mode. At home and on Wi-Fi, I simply power up the speaker via the power button on the back and it connects automatically. It's still taking me a bit to get used to the power button being on the back. I'm used to this being on the front or top of the device. However, it is big enough and is the top button, so it's easy to find by blindly feeling around and after a while, you will develop the muscle memory to go straight to it and not accidentally hit the other buttons. I fired up the speaker with my phone, turned on the Airplay connection to the Sonos Move via my iOS Control Center. It connects perfectly and takes just a few seconds. I use Spotify, so I played my music from the actual app. I did register my Spotify account with the Sonos app, but it feels more of a bare-bones, less featured offering than just using the native iOS app itself. In listening to a variety of songs and genres, from "Thunder" by Imagine Dragons to groups like Infected Mushroom, Rammstein, Professor Elemental, Daft Punk, Kraftwerk, AC/DC and tool, while mixing up some loud, faster sounds with slow ones. I can say that this speaker handled everything well. Even at half volume, it gets loud, which made me happy! The bass is spot on, as were the lows, mids and highs that I checked for. Even at near-max volume, I didn't detect any form of distortion or other anomalies. Overall, I'm VERY satisfied with how well this speaker performs, not only with music, but Podcasts and even my Twitch streams that I listen to! I also do want to add that this speaker has Trueplay tuning build into it. This is really neat because, any time you move or relocate the speaker while it is powered on and sit it down in the new location, for a few minutes after, it will automatically tune the speaker to the environment it is in, so it can accommodate the sound to loud or quite rooms. However, the speaker does have to be powered on during the move in order for it to do this - otherwise, it has no way of know it was relocated. It also has a set of mics up top, along with an indicator so that you know if it is in use or not. I love that you can tap the mic indicator to turn it off for privacy. There are also touch buttons up top as well that controls the volume, track selection, play/pause and again, the microphone on/off status. During my 3 day use of this speaker, I am seriously impressed. It's what I expected, coming from the Sonos brand and even more. The sound is full, rich and room filling. The design is elegant and you wouldn't even know it was a "rugged" speaker without being told. I also love the handle that is build into the back and have never once feared dropping it while migrating. My only real complaint with this speaker is that I've had an issue where, when I've had it on charge and powered off, it turns itself back on randomly. It'll be off and on the charge base, then when I go into the room the next day, it'll be on and I have no idea for how long it was on for. I'll turn it off and a few hours later, it'll be on again. I would also like to have seen a plug or port cover for the USB-C charging port in the back, for when you are out and about and do not have the charging stand to place it on. This would even have further increased the ruggedness, as there would be no worry of water or other particles getting into the port. Overall, this is getting 5 stars, all the way around. I am absolutely in love with this speaker and I can't wait to return to working back at home here in another month or so, so I can begin using and enjoying this speaker on a daily basis.

    Great Portable Speaker

About Sonos Move Sonos Move is the first portable speaker in the Sonos line-up. It’s suitable for indoor and outdoor use, and even claims that it’s drop resistant (though I’m not willing to test this feature since I like the speaker so much). It’s feature-rich and high quality, and exactly what Sonos needed to add to its series of products. What It Comes With Sonos Move is pretty simple. Most everything is housed within the speaker casing. In addition to the speaker it comes with a charging base and a bag to tote the speaker in. The charging base is a ring that the speaker sets on. The base, cord, and charging plug are all one proprietary connected piece. The casing even has a handle built into the back side for you to carry the speaker. Set Up For me, the set up was really easy. I already had the Sonos app installed on my phone. It was up and running in just a few minutes. For those that don’t have the app already installed, you’ll need to download and set up the app, get connected to the WiFi, and connect any services (like Spotify or Pandora, etc). You’ll also want to update the speaker software when you set up. That takes a few minutes to accomplish typically. Other than the app I just set the base down, plugged it in, and set the speaker on the charging base. Not much to it. Features This portable speaker is feature-rich. It works on both WiFi and Bluetooth, so you can really use this about anywhere. It’s as easy as pushing the button on the back to switch between WiFi and Bluetooth. It also has a microphone with Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa built-in. There’s an option to turn the microphone off for those don’t want to use this or just want their privacy. There are also touch sensitive buttons on the speaker to control play and volume. This speaker can be used both indoors and outdoors. I think that this may be perfect for a bathroom since it’s designed to be weatherproof. Also, with any Sonos product, don’t forget about the grouping feature that the Sonos app has. If you have another Sonos product you can group the multiple products together and stream your audio to the group. I tried this with a Play:5 in the Kitchen, and it worked well. Then, I tried this with my Sonos/Sonance Patio system, and it was awesome. I could move this speaker to exactly where I wanted a little more sound. It was a great addition to the existing set of speakers. As for battery life, I used the speaker for about 20 minutes outdoors, and it used around 5% of the battery life. Battery life shows up in the Sonos app so you can see where you stand as you play. Sound Quality I tested the speaker both indoors and outdoors, and I used a variety of music to see if it catered to one type more than another. I have to say that this speaker was really well balanced (especially for a portable). In my opinion, and for those who have listened to Sonos products previously, it sounded better than a Play:1, but not quite as good as a Play:5. Rightfully so considering the price difference with these speakers. The Sonos Move had much better bass than I expected. In fact, it may have had better bass than the larger Sonance speakers installed on my patio. I was pretty impressed. Here is a quick list of Pros and Cons for the Sonos Move. Pros *Everything is in one package *Sound quality is really good – lots of bass and is balanced *Sonos quality (sound and features) *Has Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa *Sonos app connects with several different audio sources *Sonos app allows this speaker to be grouped with others *Indoor and Outdoor use *Has a handle built in to the back of the speaker and a bag to tote it *Battery life of speaker is good Cons (Not Many) *Charging base and cord is a proprietary set up I’m giving the Sonos Move 5 stars. It’s the best portable speaker that I’ve used so far. The sound quality is really good, it has all of the Sonos app functionality, and I can use it almost anywhere. Sonos did a great job with this product.
