While expensive, the sound quality is really great. They don't have upward firing speakers but I am not really convinced they make a huge difference.

The Sonos One SL is a nice quality product with a great deal of design consideration. Its a sleek and unobtrusive package, with a nice silicone base for non-slip grip on almost any surface. I chose to place this speaker in the kitchen, as we love to listen to music while cooking and preparing meals. Out of the box, you get the speaker, a power cord and a minimalistic instruction guide. The power cord is molded to match the bottom of the unit, which is another nice attention to detail. Once plugged into the unit, it's not going anywhere and won't be accidentally pulled out either, as it enters the unit at 90 degrees from underneath the speaker. Plug the speaker in, and download the Sonos App. I have another Sonos product, so already had the app installed. Once loaded, go to settings, system, add product. The app walks you through the process of setting up the speaker. When the speaker is ready, you will be asked to 'tune' your speaker. The app provides a video for you to follow and start the tuning. This was new to me, I didn't have to do this with the Sonos Amp that I have with my Sonance speakers. And I'll admit, I failed on the first try! The video shows a young lady waving her cell phone around the room in an up and down motion. I did the same. It must have been somewhat half heartedly, as I was told by the app to retry using a much more 'animated' motion. Long, sweeping up and down motions are required to make the tuning work properly! Not just sweeping your arm up and down in a 2ft range! Lesson learned, second time was a charm. I'm sure the kitchen was a little challenging, with the refrigerator noise in one corner and chatting in the other corner, but as soon as the speaker tune was set up, it sounded good, but really, really bassy, especially at low levels. I was originally going to review the speaker with 4 stars due to the bass, especially at lower volumes. I couldn't see any way to change the EQ instantly in the app and was a little disappointed. However, after asking a friend who has what appears to be about 73 Sonos speakers around his house, and a little research online, I found that if you go to Settings/System/Choose your Speaker and scroll down, there is an EQ option under 'Sound' - there you can adjust the bass and treble to your liking. This really helped the speaker come alive, and not just sound like a wall of bass until it was turned up louder, where the mids and treble take over the bass more. The first song played is my 'goto' when testing new speakers: Disturbed's version of 'The Sound of Silence'. I choose this song because it has a great musical and vocal range, with soft, sweeping vocals accompanied by soothing piano, elevating to strong rock vocals punching through a backdrop of louder, more dramatic music. The Sonos One SL performed flawlessly, punching the bass notes and accentuating the mids and highs. It really fills the room sound, like a warm blanket enveloping you! I can see me adding more of these speakers to my original. Presumably, 'SL' is a designation for 'Sonos Lite' as it doesn't have a microphone for Google or Alexa integration, but it still delivers the same sound qualities of the Sonos One, and the previous Sonos One accessories work with the Sonos One SL. You can also pair Sonos One and Sonos One SL to create a stereo sound field. The Sonos One SL can also be used as home theater surround sound speakers. The SL also introduces Apple Airplay 2 and capacitive touch controls on top. There is a pleasing, single LED on top, a play/pause button and then 4 dots to the left and right of it. Those are your volume up and down touch points, but if you slide from left to right, through the play touch point, you skip to the next track and alternatively from right to left, skip to previous tracks. And being in the kitchen, humidity resistance is a nice feature to have, to be able to use it without concern near a steaming stove. Listening to some classical music while writing this review, the sound is compelling, warm, vibrant and clear, with great definition no matter what volume you have it at. I've really enjoyed using the Sonos One SL so far!

    ## Setup If you’ve used the Sonos app to setup other Sonos speakers, you’ll find the process to be very familiar. First, place the speaker where you want it in your home and connect the power. Open the app, go to Settings and select System > Add Product. The app will then scan for new speakers and walk you through the setup process. At the end, the Sonos app will also install the latest updates to the speaker, so there is a bit of wait until you can hear the sound from the new speaker. ## Sound Quality If you already have a Sonos One or Play:1 speaker, you’ll find the sound quality on the Sonos One SL is exactly the same. The only difference is the lack of microphones on the SL. As is typical with Sonos speakers, the sound quality is superb with great bass. Highs, mids and lows all come through clearly and make for a very enjoyable listening experience. One speaker can fill a medium-sized room easily and likely even a large room. The Sonos One SL can be paired with another Sonos One (but NOT a Sonos Play:1) for stereo sound or grouped with other Sonos speakers around your home for simultaneous play. ## Features No voice assistant: The main reason for buying this particular speaker is likely the omission of a voice assistant. This isn’t just for privacy-minded folks: if you already have an Echo device in the room you plan to use a Sonos speaker, you can save some money and forgo having a second voice assistant in the same room. Or, perhaps you just want a second speaker to create a stereo pair with another Sonos One speaker that already has Alexa. AirPlay 2: Although this speaker has no virtual assistant, it still has some of the benefits of the Sonos One, one of which is AirPlay 2. This allows you to easily stream music from your iPhone, iPad, or Mac to the speaker without going through a Bluetooth pairing process. While playing music, simply tap the AirPlay icon on your iPhone and select the speaker. Humidity resistance: You can’t go splashing water on this speaker, but if you plan on placing this in the bathroom, the extra humidity from the shower will not be a problem. ## Summary The main difference between the Sonos One and One SL is that the latter lacks microphones and the voice assistant. The Sonos One SL still has the great sound quality your expect from Sonos, as well as AirPlay 2 functionality.

This is an excellent speaker which can be used together with other Sonos items or by itself. I already have a few Sonos speakers and wanted to get another for my bedroom. The beauty of this is that through your phone, you can connect all the Sonos Speakers and have them play your music all throughout the house. The sound is so rich and powerful that one speaker is enough to fill an entire room with the sound. I highly recommend this speaker. PROS: Sound Quality Aesthetic Easy Connectivity to other Sonos speakers Easy Setup Humidity Proof (can be used in bathroom) CONS: Price (not cheap, but very affordable) Does not have built-in Microphone

As a music lover and owner of a small business, I've always been on the lookout for a sound system that could deliver the rich, immersive audio experience my customers deserved. After countless trials and errors, I finally stumbled upon the Sonos One SL, and let me tell you, it was game-changer. From the moment I set up these sleek, compact speakers, I was blown away by their crystal-clear sound. Every note, every beat, every nuance of my favorite songs came to life in a way I had never heard before. The richness of the bass, the crispness of the treble, the sheer expansiveness of the soundstage – it was like listening to my music for the very first time. But the Sonos One SL's brilliance extends far beyond its sonic prowess. Setting up these speakers was a breeze, thanks to the intuitive Sonos app. Within minutes, I had my entire business filled with seamless, room-filling sound. And once they were up and running, I could control them with the touch of a button or the simple sound of my voice. The versatility of the Sonos One SL is another aspect that I adore. With support for a vast array of music streaming services, including Apple Music, Spotify, and Pandora, my customers and I have access to an endless library of music at our fingertips. And the ability to control the speakers with Amazon Alexa or Google Assistant makes it even easier to find the perfect tunes for any mood or occasion. But what truly sets the Sonos One SL apart is its ability to transform any space into a haven of sonic bliss. With Trueplay technology, I can fine-tune the sound of each speaker to perfectly match the acoustics of my rooms, ensuring that every corner of my business is bathed in rich, immersive audio. In short, the Sonos One SL has been a revelation for me and my business. It's a speaker system that not only delivers exceptional sound quality but also seamlessly integrates into my everyday life. The seamless integration with my existing home theater system, courtesy of the intuitive Sonos app, made the entire process a breeze. The Sonos One SL delivers an audio experience that is simply out of this world. The speaker's Trueplay tuning technology enhances this by optimizing the sound to the unique acoustics of the room. It's like having a personal sound engineer at your disposal. The Sonos One SL is also humidity resistant, which means you can enjoy your favorite tunes in your bathroom or even outdoors during a BBQ party, without worrying about damaging the speaker. Moreover, the ability to pair two Sonos One SL speakers for stereo sound is an absolute game-changer. It brings a depth and immersiveness to the audio that genuinely mimics a cinematic experience. In summary, the Sonos One SL has taken my home theater setup to another level. It combines elegant design, effortless setup, and an unparalleled audio experience to deliver a product that truly stands out in the market. I have been in the market great quality speakers. I have done my research and decided to go ahead and purchase a set of these One SL Sonos speakers and I was not disappointed. The set up is super easy (involves downloading the Sonos app) and connecting to your WiFi. I’ve tried these out in three different capacities: 1) one speaker by itself 2) stereo pair 3) part of surround sound with other one SL and beam (no sub). Speaker by itself is pretty good. Bass and treble levels, and some eq settings made some of the music sound great both in a kitchen and living room set. I live in a house so it may be loud if you’re in an apartment. Listened to different types of music with different base levels and I was impressed. Better than my JBL and Amazon echo speakers I already had. When I paired it with another One SL, that’s when I really noticed the difference. It sounded amazing and I was incredibly impressed. You really do need two speakers to get the most out this product, which I understand can be pricey, but it’s worth it. I ran the same tests I did with just the single speaker and it just blew my other Bluetooth speakers out of the water. Running the true play test is a must to get the sound just right and you’ll need to run it each time if you change room locations. I even took this set outdoors to my deck and it still sounded amazing! Finally, I set up these two with the Sonos Beam I had and it really amplified the beam. My system includes a Samsung 4K OLEAD tv, Sony 4K player, and the beam connected via HDMI ARC. It was great watching John Wick 2 as you could hear everything from bullets zipping by to the glass shattering. I also watched dialogue heavy shows through streaming such as Ozark and it sounded great. I realized I need to eventually add the sub to get a superior surround sound effect but even without it I’ve been impressed. All in all, I think I’m keeping these as part of my surround sound system. I think if you’re in the market for getting your first set of speakers you can stream to and you want high quality, these are it. I love my Echo and do like Alexa and Bluetooth capabilities, but I’m looking for quality sound and you can beat the Sonos brand for the size of speaker. If you’re looking for the smart features you can get the Ones and it will include that but since I already have echos and dots in my household, I didn’t need to get them. You won’t be disappointed and I have officially converted to the Sonos ecosystem.

The Sonos One SL is a great little speaker that can really beef up the sound of your Sonos Arc soundbar. It's easy to set up and use, and it sounds amazing. The soundstage is wide and immersive, and the bass is deep and powerful. If you're looking for a way to take your home theater experience to the next level, the Sonos One SL is a great option. It's easy to set up and use. It looks great. Overall, I'm really happy with the Sonos One SL. It's a great speaker that's perfect for adding some extra oomph to your Sonos Arc soundbar.

I have been a big believer in home theaters and the bigger the speakers, the better. I wanted whole home sound without the hassle of wiring and blasting everything from my living room. This system does it for me. I have multiple speakers throughout the house on different floors and the sound is very rich and crisp. These speakers take up little space but come with big sound. The app is very easy to use and being able to control each speaker while in the group is helpful as well. I do have a few gripes though that knock this down to a 4 star rating. While using services like Spotify and SiriusXM, there is no control on the lock screen of the phone. You will need to dive into the app to control songs, etc. which isnt a big deal but opening the phone each time does get a little frustrating. Linking these services were very easy though and there is very little lag when getting them going. One of the great features of this is being able to take a phone call while the system is on without loss of connectivity. Great for parties when you are going to let people in. One of the down sides is the connectivity to an amazon or google device. You can opt to pay a little more for the smart assistant speakers but I was hoping the integration would work well here. Sadly it doesn't but that may be something on Amazon's side. I would highly recommend buying these speakers though and look forward to adding to the system in the future.

Already had the Sonos environment set up, so adding this to the owners bath was intuitive and quick with the app. Outstanding performance for just one speaker. Relative to its size, it does a great job with the low end. If find Sonos products are very good but a much better return on investment if you can wait for them to go on sale.

This speaker has been great for our living room. We use it everyday and enjoy it’s great audio quality, high top volume, cross platform compatibility (we’re a mixed iOS/Android household), and great features. It’s AirPlay support is particularly great which makes playing audio on it easy with Siri. We are considering getting another for stereo pairing and maybe even eventually getting a full surround sound system (this speaker can be part of a four piece set). Also, the fact that this speaker has no microphone is a big plus in terms of privacy.
