I've only had them for a few weeks now, but I'm loving them so far! Great quality sound, I really appreciate the sound enhancement features (I can enhance conversations or soften loud noises for nightime TV watching), and it's great (and easy!) to sync music between the Sonos Play:1 in my bedroom and the Playbase in my living room. Not sure if it's worth the large cost -- I guess that'll depend on whether they last me a solid half-decade or more.
One note: it's not obvious in the showroom or on the website, but these are *properly heavy*. I'd previously owned a Vizio soundbase, which was reasonably light, but these weight over 25 lbs! Something to keep in mind when buying them, I guess.

Didn't really know my tv audio sound could be so rich without wires and additional speakers placed in tbe room. Thoroughly impressed with the quality of sound and the ability to play my music wirelessly from all sources. The minute I heard it in Best Buy I was sold. I especially like the low profile replacing my soundbar. Got rid of wires. The versatility of the Sonos products should make anyone wanting a rich quality sound to invest now.

I will start by saying I would 100% recommend this product for anyone who has table space below their television!
Pros:
-Extremely easy setup/installation
-long term support and software updates
-Supports Airplay2 for iOS devices
-Sounds absolutely amazing
Cons:
-Only supports Dolby Digital 5.1 (no DTS for Blu-ray and no higher codecs like DD+, Atmos, etc..)
-Only has optical connection, no HDMI
-Can be argued that the connection tech is not worth the cost of admission
If you are a home theater aficionado, this is not the product for you. If you are like me however, it is close to perfect. I wanted to enhance the sound of my home entertainment with surround sound and a wireless approach that will also allow me to build out an entire home audio system. The ease of everything is worth the trade off in my eyes.
I purchased this as a full 5.1 system and use my AppleTV 4K to convert all codecs to Dolby Digital 5.1, so the lack of other codec support is fine for now.
I think Sonos will eventually roll out pieces for other codecs, like the rumored Dolby Atmos rear surround speakers, so if you buy into this system, it will allow it to grow with you. Any piece you replace can be moved to another room easily!

The PlayBase was pretty easy to set up, the only difficulty I had was with the WiFi connection. For the connection to work, I had to install the Sonos application on my laptop (not just my iPhone) and adjust the firewall settings to allow incoming connections for Sonos. The sound quality from my BluRay player was fantastic whereas my TV sound was only ok - probably a result of the low quality signal from my cable provider. Obviously, the quality of the source signal matters a lot.

I bought this without the subwoofer first to see if the bass would be good enough without spending another $700. It's certainly powerful enough for my needs (not a very large living room), but I may end up buying the subwoofer down the road just because. But looks nice under my TV, produces great sound, and the wireless connectivity with the rest of my house is a thing of beauty.

Easy to setup. Sound quality is good. Has interesting music capabilities. Would like to see better integration between app and phone, such as transferring what is playing from phone to play base.

I had spent weeks researching different sound bars or systems to add to my newly purchased LG 55" OLED. That TV is the best television I have ever owned, but the speakers are meh -- don't get me wrong, the sound was okay, but with the thin OLED TV, the real sound just wasn't there.
We have our TV on a stand inside an entertainment center. Looking at soundbars, it was apparent the height would block the IR sensor of the remote, not to mention block the beauty of the TV itself. In browsing through the local Best Buy store, I saw the Sonos Playbase setup for a demo, and I was blown away by the sound quality. The demo for the Bose playbase was nearby. In the store, the quality sounded the same for both, and both about evenly priced.
I'm not one to jump into a quick buying decision, so I went home and read different reviews on both, watched various YouTube videos, and I finally decided on the Sonos Playbase because of the capability to later add more wireless speakers. This was my first Sonos purchase... ever!
The setup took me 30 minutes to complete. It would have been sooner, but my wife was not home to help lift the TV into the entertainment center with short run cables. The hook-up to the TV is only one cable (the optical cable), and the setup is via the online app (I have an iPhone, so I cannot attest to the Android setup).
The app was easy to setup the playbase to the TV. The OLED TV Remote at first did not work with the playbase because it is not an IR remote. But, a quick Google search later corrected that (thank God for the internet).
Once everything was connected, the sound quality is wonderful. I had thought about purchasing the Sonos Sub-woofer, but I am glad I held off for that (at least for now). The Playbase produces a wonderful deep base and the voices and high-end responses are crystal clear.
So far, I have had it installed 3 days, and I absolutely love it!

The Sonos Playbase is the best. Very easy to set up. Great sound. I love being able to customize the sound using their app. I've paired this with two Play:1 speakers set up as surround sound speakers. With adjustments to enhance the spoken word, we can finally listen to TV without having to turn it up so loud the neighbors can hear it. I also stream Pandora and Amazon Music through the device. Music has never sounded so good. Expensive, but worth the money.

I bought this to replace the sound bar I had mounted on the wall underneath my TV. It was a breeze to set up and get using right away. The sound is fantastic - no need for satellite speakers or sub woofer to get a full rich sound. The Sonos app gives you full control of music throughout your house - if you have other Sonos speakers in other rooms. Connect them all or play music individually. Great app. Great sound system.

I tried the playbase over the beam because our room is a bit large and I also wanted to see I could skirt the need for the sub.
By itself the playbase is decent. You will hear things you hadnt heard before in the background. You will hear dialog no problem (and that is even without the dialog mode on).
Paired with some Sonos Ones takes this to a whole new level. TV sound becomes much richer, and music is just incredible. I may get the sub at some point, but I certainly don't need it at all.
The SONOS factor
Set up.
Super easy. For instance, to pair our tv remote we followed the app instructions to hit the volume up button. Hit the button - done, paired. No punching in codes or looking up your tv model, etc etc.
Ecosystem
We can push tv sound to the kitchen and bathroom sonos speakers. Need a snack, have to go to the bathroom? No problem you'll hear what's going on.
Use
Switching back and forth from tv to music is so simple. Play some music, then go turn on the tv and hit the tv remote's volume button and magically sonos just switches right over to tv mode for you.
Why Not 5 stars?
The only reason I have given it 4 stars instead of 5 is the lack of the HDMI interface that the beam has. For this much money I want the latest tech. That said, if you want to start building out a wireless surround sound system in a large room the playbase is a great place to start.

I was looking for a better way to listen to my 55" flat panel TV other than the built-in speakers or the 5.1 surround sound system I installed 5 years ago. I wanted to lose the wires for the surround speakers and get clearer dialog from the TV/center channel. The Sonos Playbase did not disappoint! The unit was so simple to set up and add to my existing wi-fi network. We have a small room for the TV and Playbase, but using the Sonos TruePlay tool, easily and quickly adjusted the Playbase for great sound. I've already added two Play 1 speakers for rear surround and will be adding the Sonos sub very soon. Very pleased with the system!

Amazing depth and clarity for a soundbar so small. Its very sleek and unobtrusive yet the sound quality is excellent. It has a good amount of bass for its size but you may want to consider pairing it with the subwoofer. It can also be paired with the other Sonos speakers as well to make a 5.0 or 5.1 setup.

Love this Playbase it has really great sound. Going to add a few play 3’s to make it true surround sound. I Highly recommend it has a nice built in base so not as much a need for other base. True Tone helps the audio configure to your room. Really easy to use and setup. Couldn’t be happier

Sonos has done it again! The Playbase sits innocently underneath just about any TV and provides wide-ranging sound that fills the room no matter where you're sitting. Works great alone but is really superb when matched up with a Sonos sub and some surrounds.

In my opinion Sonos is the best sound system on the market. Being wireless and able to expand the system easily and effortlessly is one of the greatest assets. The sound it delivers as with the rest of their products is awesome. I replaced my Bose system and was leary at first it now I don't regret it at all. It is so worth the price. I just got a speaker one with Alexa as a gift and tied into the rest of my system a absolutely wonderful. My entire house is almost completely set up with Sonos. Last purchase will be the bridge to start playing my old vinyls...can't wait...

We love it. Pretty easy to install. Sonos app is easy to use. It solved all the probelms we had with a Sony HT-NT5 sound bar. The Sonos Playbase is faser to start up, the sound quality is better, takes up a lot less space, responds to remote more quickly, and allows signal to return to tv after playing a DVD/BluRay. And in our case it allows the tv to sit farther forward in the cabinet. And it’s easier to dust around the tv/ components. Can’t remember the guy who sold us this Sonos Playbase, but he was very helpful. Will have to thank him in person.

The playable has a surprisingly rich sound for it's size. I'm told it has more low end than the Sonos Playbar but I've not heard them side by side. Still, if you're looking for "earthquake" or "jet engine" style lows from your movies, you'll probably want to add a SUB. Another interesting feature I learned from Sonos is that if you can hardwire your Playbase into your wifi router (Ethernet connection) it actually works just as well or maybe better than the Sonos Boost to create a network for all your Sonos products.

We replaced a Bose 5.1 surround sound system (the tiny single cubes plus subwoofer) with the PLAYBASE. What a difference! The Bose setup was too bass-heavy even with the sub turned down to the minimum setting, but most music just seemed boomy on it, and when watching TV or movies, we constantly had to adjust the volume to hear the dialog. Not so with the PLAYBASE. TV and movies have had great sound with clear dialog, and we no longer have to keep adjusting the volume while watching something.
For music listening, we did very little listening on the Bose cube system due to the bass-heavy nature of the sound. Since getting the PLAYBASE, we listen to music on it every evening, and really enjoy the sound quality. The mid-range seems more filled in than with the Bose system we previously used, and the bass output has been more than sufficient for us so far, and that is without adding a subwoofer.
AirPlay works great with it from our iPhones or iPad, but seems to cut out periodically when trying to use it as an AirPlay destination from iTunes for Windows. When we want to stream music to it from the Windows PC, we end up using AirPlay to stream to the AppleTV (3rd Gen) and then use the sound through the HDMI output to the TV. AirPlay does not cut out that way. We have not tried playing music using the Sonos app. Would a Mac have the same issue where AirPlay cuts out periodically? (I ask this because our iPhones and iPad have never cut out, unlike iTunes on the Windows PC.)
Would great stereo speakers be better for music listening? Possibly, if you're sitting in the sweet spot. Otherwise, if you are listening while doing other stuff, you wouldn't really be getting the precise stereo imaging anyway, so the PLAYBASE has greatly improved our daily listening experience by providing room-filling, rich sound.

Full disclosure, I am not an audiophile, nor do I traditionally spend this much on audio equipment (especially a sound bar). What I can tell you about the Sonos Playbase, from my experience, is that it delivers crisp, impressive sound quality with no discernible vibrations/cabinet noise at varying volume levels. The connectivity is seamless and it integrates effortlessly into my existing setup.
The reason I gave it four stars is because it is expensive, and if you want the full experience then you will need to pick up the subwoofer and play one speakers for surround, which are not cheap either.
