The SONOS Soundbase easily is the best sounding product of this type that I have yet heard. Lows are very low and full while the mid-range excels in voice clarity and the highs do ring like a bell. We are using it as a replacement for another high-line similar looking product and are truly impressed as we hear dialog and sound effects to accompany out television that we were unaware were present! Add the music streaming features - no better product available in this configuration!

Though this is an expensive piece it has great sound and is very easy to use. We use it for both watching television and for listening to music. We are able to set it differently for music and TV. The versatility makes this a great addition to our entertainment setup. We also like that we can add more pieces easily once we can afford them.

I am 67 and my hearing has diminished over the past few years. I couldn't understand over half of what was being said on movies. Sonos controller was easy to download and set up. I can now hear every word being said. I added their sub woofer two weeks later and wow, realistic 3.1.

I underestimated how great this sound base it. I almost went with the Bose but I don’t regret getting this one. I like that I can control it with my phone and it was a little confusing at first but if you judge it based on that then you’re wrong. The sound quality is great.

This thing sounds fantastic. You already know that if you've listened to it in the store. It sounds really good loud. I am very happy with the trade off of wireless and sonos features against a traditional 5.1 system. What you might not be able to tell from the store and I probably appreciate most is that I can watch tv or movies at night and get all the dialogue and not be constantly turning the thing down during action scenes. I am in close proximity to bedrooms. Sonos has both a night mode and a dialogue enhancer. Great sounding system day and night. Using this with two play ones and a sub.

The PlayBase is a great product. The sound is incredible! and I never believed the reviews that said that you did not need a Subwoofer. Well, the first time that I heard it, I could not believe it. Unfortunately, I was not aware that my Sharp Aquos TV from 2012 was not managing very well soundbars. I had to return the product (I could have cried), not because of Sonos, but because of the TV.

This thing sounds amazing and was very easy to setup. We put this in our bedroom and put the Sonos Sound Bar in our living room. The Playbase is 5 stars all they way. Even at low volumes the sound quality and detail is amazing. I would recommend this to everyone.

As an owner of Play 5, Play 1 and a Sonos Sound Bar, I had the need for the PlayBase in my master bedroom. All I can say is this bad boy lives up to its brother and sisters reputation. What really came across as unexpected was the base this unit will crank out.

Great sound from this Playbase. The sound easily fills my living room and while the bass is lacking a bit for those who want earth shaking bass, it does a good job and is fine for people who live in condo's or apartments and don't want to upset their neighbors.

I'm going to start my review by saying this: do not buy the Sonos Playbase if you are just looking for a soundbar. There are plenty of less expensive soundbars (with subwoofers) that will produce the same (or better) audio. The purpose of the Playbase is to offer a diminutive speaker, capable of keeping up with $250-$300 soundbars, while expanding your Sonos network. Now that I got that out of the way, I can talk about the Playbase. I use the Playbase as a soundbar replacement, a Sonos speaker, and it's the source of my Boost network. I have Google Wi-Fi and Sonos still (stubbornly) has not added 802.11n or 802.11ac compatibility to their speakers. They're still using 2.4GHz 802.11g Wi-Fi and, unless you have a dual-channel Wi-Fi router, it's going to slow your network down. There are also known issues when trying to connect Sonos speakers directly to mesh Wi-Fi systems like Google Wi-Fi. I wanted to avoid the headaches so I just directly plugged an Ethernet cable from the Playbase to my source Google Wi-Fi broadcaster. The Sonos app recognized the Playbase and updated the firmware. I was up and running within 3 minutes listening to better audio from my TV while surfing through my Google Music collection. The Playbase can accommodate TV's up to 70lbs and my 51" Samsung Plasma is well under that (about 54lbs with the stand). I connected my TV to the Playbase using a digital optical audio cable (that's the only thing that will work). The Playbase does a good job of keeping center audio in the center while having proper stereo separation. It won't really do a good job emulating surround sound but you can feed it 5.1 Dolby Digital audio. Unfortunately, the Playbase only works with Dolby Digital and PCM audio. It won't work with DTS which means that your device (TV, game console, Blu-ray player, etc.) is going to have to transcode DTS content down to stereo PCM for the Playbase. It's also a shame that there isn't an HDMI input with this as my HDTV is older so it can only output stereo PCM audio to the Playbase, it doesn't have Dolby pass-thru. But that's OK as I wasn't buying the Playbase to serve as a surround sound system (it's going to be the only speaker I have hooked up to my TV in the living room). The audio quality is surprisingly great. There is a thumping sub-bass presence that isn't sloppy, the mid-bass is clearly defined and easily heard, and the highs are crisp without being harsh or sibilant. The Playbase can also get loud. I could feel the audio in the walls of my house when turned up to about half-way and I could clearly hear it outside. This easily fills up my living room with rich audio. The performance is on par with the $300 LG soundbar this is replacing and that had a dedicated subwoofer. Now, this isn't going to replace a full-on home theater system but it easily competes with $250-$300 soundbars. As usual, the Sonos app and ecosystem are easy to use and work with tons of music services. I had no issues adding my and my wife's Google Music All Access accounts as well as my Groove account (I am currently going through a trial). Audio starts playing almost instantly and it sounds crisp and clear, definitely better than any Bluetooth speaker. The nice thing is that I can pipe TV audio from the Playbase to other Sonos speakers so that, if I'm in the basement doing laundry (where I have a Play:1 speaker), I can still at least hear the TV. Like I said, the price is a little high but you're getting one of the best sounding Sonos speakers that's also a great soundbar. It's a nice addition to an already established Sonos ecosystem. You're better off getting a standard soundbar and subwoofer if you don't care about having a Sonos speaker but, if you're looking at expanding your Sonos network and don't have a wall-mounted TV, this is definitely a must buy. I recommend the matte black version as it doesn't scratch easily and blends in with your TV and other electronics.

The sound base is very well designed. I really like its detail in black or white. It’s rounded instead of square. It’s also a little smaller than some sound bases. It has huge sound though. I think it has a great balance of lows mids and highs. Very natural sounding. It fills our living room with great sound from music or tv and movies. You can sit your tv on top, or it’s short enough to go under a tv with side legs instead of center stand or base. It’s another great product from sonos. I have quite a few different ones and I’m adding as we go.

A non technical person and I was able to set up in minutes. Did not buy the subwoofer as our living room is fairly small. Playbase and two S1 are fine. Good sound. Does not distort as volume increases. No issues at all. Main use is music and TV volume.

I was on the fence between this and the Bose sound bar. I decided to go with Sonos after too many long evenings at the BB store testing out the system and reading all of the reviews online. I have not looked back since. The sound is flawless and I love the Night Sound feature so when I'm watching movies at night I'm not disturbing my neighbors. I was thinking of purchasing the subwoofer at a later point, but for the space that I am in this is absolutely perfect. The bass is more than enough and I have not gone over 50% in volume. You will not be disappointed!

Since my tv is not wall mounted, this is a more appropriate piece instead of the Playbar. Sounds fantastic, but primarily went with the Sonos system because of the music streaming capability.

I have been a sonos user for years and didn't hesitate to give the play base a try. My Samsung TV speakers were starting to rattle after several years and was time for an upgrade. The TV sits right on top of the Playbase. The hookup was seamless. Basically turn it on and it walks you through in a couple of minutes. The sound is amazing. Although pretty pricey, very nice product.

It is pricey, but for me I got it for it's convenience. Easy to set-up via a mobile device connected to the internet using their app. You can connect most music services to their app. Sounds great. Connects to your tv through an optical cable. Only issue is the remote set-up. I use a directtv remote which is programmed to my Samsung tv for sound. You have to use the external audio setting on the TV or you will get sound from both the tv and playbase (not good). When you set-up the sound for the playbase, it also uses the programed sound you have on the remote. This caused the TV to display a warning that the external sound each time you adjust the volume. You either live with the warning that goes away after a few sec (Samsung has no way to turn that off) or reprogram the remote which can be a pain on directtv.

I did a lot f research before purchasing the Sonos PLAYBASE, my orignal intent was to get a new home theater system but I was tired of the cables. I came across this amazing speaker, the sound is incredibly clear and with just this unit a lone produces a nice bass. My favorite part, if I want more bass or more audio I can purchase the bass or speakers from Sonos whenever I want to expand the system to get a true surround sound.

Have been searching for a soundbar for a while. Was have issues finding a sounder that would work without blocking the IR Remote of my TV. My Sony sits really low. Started reading about Sonos and really liked the idea of setting up my whole house for sound wirelessly. Yes Sonos products are pricey, very pricey. But they sound great and are easy to setup. I wish I had not waited so long to but this soundbase. Makes a huge difference when watching movies, dialogue is clear. No more turning the volume up and down. Base is good, not great. The Sonos app is excellent, I can stream my whoie music library, Pandora or ant local radio station. The problem is now I want to add the Sub, some rears and get speakers for my other rooms. Good thing is I can add components as I can afford them.
