Customers are saying

Customers frequently mention the excellent sound quality and comfortable fit of the 1000X Wireless Noise Cancelling Headphones. Positive feedback also highlights the long battery life and user-friendly touch controls. However, some customers find the headphones to be a bit expensive and heavy. A few users also noted that the volume could be higher and the fit may not be ideal for all head shapes.

I had purchased this to use in the car to reduce noise and listen to books on CD as I drove. I found they would not pick up the CD sound as the stereo did not transmit bluetooth but only came out of the speakers. As I could not hear the sound through the headphones they were not of use to me for the purpose I had intended.

    Missing the little things

The noise cancelling is great, it has connected with several phones and computers without problems, the sound quality is good, similar to my Logitech UE 9000 but not as good as my Polk Audio Ultra Focus 8000. But I would like them a little bit more bass heavy. They are a little heavy but not disturbing bad, comfortable to wear, even for a longer time. The features are nice as well as the battery run time. The little stuff cuts down my rating. The travel case is case is nice, solid but too small, the cables need to stay inside an outside pocket and can get lost. There isn't a wall charger included, the size adjustment is too sloppy and moves every time I put them on.You can't use the headphone while charging (like my UE9000). But the biggest mistake is that I can't use the headphones just in noise cancelling mode without playing anything, I have to have the cable plugged or they will turn off after about 5 minutes. The Sony software doesn't connect the headphones with the headphones on my Droid Turbo 2, I have tried several times.

At the original price of $399 1 didn't consider it. At a reduced price of $329, I bought it but returned it as the audio quality and complex controls didn't justify that price either. When it sold on sale at $229, prior to a model update (WH-1000XM2) I repurchased it and I am keeping it.

Bought these in 2017. The sound quality is amazing. My only complaint is the materials used were of unacceptable poor quality. I lightly used these and when i pulled them out the case this year 2020, the sliders by the ear piece were broken. Almost as if they melted off. I'm extremely upset. These are defective and NOT DUE FROM TEAR AND WEAR. Paid a lot for these to have to find replacement parts three years later. Bestbuy or Sony please help me. Found out there were recalls on these, but looks like I'm late.

I’ve tried other noise-cancelling headphones and earbuds, but they pale in comparison to Sony’s new 1000x Over-the-ear Wireless Hi-res Headphones. Built for modern use, they work wirelessly with your Apple or Android phone -- pairing quickly, via Bluetooth with voice prompts. You can use them on a plane with the included cable and airplane adapter plug. The noise cancelling is top notch, but it’s the straight-forward interface that makes these headphones shine. The right ear cup is touch sensitive, much like a trackpad. Slide your finger up or down for volume, back or forward for previous or next song. Tap the center to pause. If you get a phone call, double tap to answer; again to hang up. My favorite feature is the “instant off” noise cancelling. Simply cup your hand over the right ear cup to hear someone talking to you. No need to stop your music or remove the headphones! If you’re waiting for an announcement for a plane or train, you can adjust the ambient sound to “hear” voice, while still listening to music. Charging these headphones is done with a USB cable to the lithium ion battery. A four hour charge lasts for 20 hours of music (with noise cancelling on) — longer with it off. You can get six hours of use from a one hour charge. I was surprised to find you cannot change the battery yourself. I have to wonder about its life and replacement cost. Included with the headphones is a nice carrying case, USB charging cable, plane plug adapter, and gold-plated stereo mini plug.

The first time I turned these headphones on and let some music run through them I was immediately happy. These have hands down the best sound I have heard from a wireless noise canceling over the ear set to date. And I do own the latest wireless headphones from Sony's two leading competitors. Hint: Their names rhyme with Nose and Meats. First, let's talk about the sound quality. While I'm no audiophile, even I can tell that wireless headsets typically don't produce the same quality sound that a wired set would. It's hard to describe sound; but where the competitors sound signatures are either flat or artificially tuned to have a lot of bass the Sony's just sound natural. I really enjoy listening to movie soundtracks on these, I can close my eyes and it sounds like I'm sitting in a concert hall listening to the orchestra. I've mostly been enjoying them through my iPhone or Mac which doesn't have the LDAC support (currently found on most Sony products). I can only imagine how much better they would sound if your source supported high res audio. The noise cancelling is on par or better than the rest of the pack. There is a setting to control the ambient noise level although I admit I haven't had much of a chance to see what the different modes will do. As far as I can tell it seems to turn off the noise canceling and allow some sound through. It has two settings: normal and voice. Personally, I prefer to leave the noise canceling on. Even with no audio playing it will block out almost all the ambient noises including the TV in the other room and my loud keyboard leaving me with just silence. It's worth noting I can not turn off the noise canceling feature on the other headphones I own. (not sure I'd want to but still) One of the coolest features of these cans is the ability to temporarily disable the noise canceling to have a conversation with some random passerby or the flight attendant simply by cupping your palm over the right ear piece. Speaking of the right ear piece, all of your volume, rewind, ff, and play/pause are there as well. There are no discreet buttons, simply swipe up/down for volume, left/right for tracks and tap for play/pause. It's very slick and the only downside I can say about this feature is that sometimes I inadvertently change the volume or track by accidentally touching the right ear cup. The headphones are well made, with premium materials. I have the black version. They also are very comfortable and I can wear them for extended periods of time. Included in the box is a flattened travel case and an audio cable for wired listening, a USB power cord for charging and an airplane headphone adapter (what airline still uses these?). One of the only things I could find wrong with these are that they do have some sound leakage at medium to high volumes. And not really a negative but a wish for the next version is to have the ability to pair with multiple devices. These days I am moving from my laptop, to my phone, tablet, or streaming device and an easier way to stay connected to more than one device would be helpful. There are other headphones on the market that have this feature (which I own) and I find it very helpful.

    Great headphones with unique controls

The most essential thing for headphones to do is produce good sound, and these meet that test easily. The next step is to provide good noise cancelling, which these also do. An added benefit is that the voice they use for status updates ("Bluetooth connected") is very pleasant and soothing. I've used some headphones where those announcements are very jarring. The unique feature of these headphones that sets them apart from others is the touch controls. To raise or lower volume, simply swipe up or down on the outside of the right earpiece. To skip or rewind tracks, swipe forward or back. To play or pause just give a brief tap. The only issue with those controls is that you can inadvertently pause your music when you didn't mean to if your hand happens to bump that earpiece; however, that rarely happens. They also come with a good, sturdy case for traveling. Bluetooth pairing is quick, easy, and reliable.

I am out and about a lot and I also practice at a pool hall frequently. These noise cancellation headset really blocks out the ambient sounds in my surroundings, especially when the juke box is playing loud music. I am pretty amazed on how well these headphone blocks out the surrounding sounds. In addition, there's a special button to setup while you are wearing the headphone to allow it to adjust the noise cancelling feature to better detect how you wear the headset to provide a more accurate detection. The Bluetooth connectivity is flawless and have a much better distance than my other headphones. The long battery really helps when I often forget to charge it, as it has up to 20 hours of playback. If you listen to music frequently at outer surroundings and want a great sound experience, this is a must have.

The audio is excellent for a BT headphone, but over time, the right or left hinge will crack and eventually the earpiece will break off. Do a quick google search and you'll find hundreds of customers with this issue.

The noise canceling works well. When the noise canceling is turned off, it annoyingly amplifies the ambient sound picked up by the microphone to an annoying level. The worst part of it is that I start feeling dizzy after wearing it for 30 minutes.
