This is my first experience with active noise cancelling headphones, and I don’t see how it could be any better. They are very comfortable to wear and can be folded up for storage in the included case. The pairing process was simple, over bluetooth or NFC, and the Sony Headphone app is simple to use. The battery can last 30 hours with all features turned on, and you can get 70 minutes of charge in only 10 minutes. The sound quality is great and the noise cancelling works perfectly. I like that you can use the Sony Headphone app to adjust the sound - using a preset or customizing the output. The ambient sound feature is remarkable - you can use the mic on the headphones to playback outside sounds through the headphones. That was a little strange the first time I used it, but it is nice to not have to take the headphones off to hear around you. You can also use the “Quick Attention” feature by resting your hand on the right ear cup (this reduces the volume of what you are listening to and turns on the ambient sound feature). A really nice feature so that you can hear around you or have a short conversation without needing to pause music and take the headphones off. The tap controls are also easy and intuitive to use. I also like that a long press can activate your phone assistant. That works great and the mic has no problem picking up your voice. I can’t think of one thing that could be improved upon, these are simply incredible headphones.

Being used both Bose QC 35 & WH 1000x headphones, i'd prefer Bose bc Sony were good and everything but the problem i had with Sony are 1. Very comfortable to wear, after 30 mins my ear was painful. 2. It cant connect to the more than 1 device, where as Bose can connect to 2 devices which is very helpful as i use my Macbook & Iphone.(No one tells you this) 3. Sony's are very very heavy, which will be very annoying after having them on for more time. 4. Sony doesnt tell you which devices it is connected to, where as Bose does. 5. Sony come on a bulky side when you have them on you can see the difference.

Wow - I can't say enough about these headphones

I've been following some reviews on these headphones; and am pretty surprised at the universal acclaim. So i was pretty happy to get to try a set. And after trying them, they made me angry! Why? Because they instantly turned my Bose QC35's into an instant relic. While i always recognized Sony as putting out a solid reliable product, they were never the one with the latest or most features per product dollar - they seemed to always choose the conservative route. This headset changes that - it's solid, feature rich, and an excellent dollar value in this market niche. The companion app is my favorite feature - and it's no lightweight. You can adjust EQ's, spacial & surround, has battery life, and Bluetooth codec. And if that isn't enough, it will interface with your phone's accelerometer to decide if you're walking, jogging, running, sitting on a subway, or lounging in your favorite recliner. The touch controls allow swiping or tap to control volume, tracking, or to turn noise cancellation on/off for either a short conversation or to allow ambient sound. The included 3.5 mm cable allows you to connect wired to either insure optimal connection or if battery life is low. Air pressure optimizer? What the heck is that?! Well, it says it knows if you're on a plane and adjusts for it. Haven't been on a plane with them, but i'll be sure to bring these along to try it on my next flight. Unbelievable. The claim on these is for a 30 hour battery life, I ran these about halfway down; plugged them in and was fully charged & ready to go in less than 10 minutes. All this, and I haven't said anything yet about noise cancelling, which is the main reason you'd buy these. Have no fear - (Bose certainly will when their engineers get hold of these). Hands down, the best I've ever heard. This is a totally solid product; and an excellent value for the price. I have no qualms about giving them a full 5 stars.

Sounded great but I got a headache every time I wore them. For those of you who can use comfortably, the noise cancelling is awesome. Had to return them though.

    Excellent Noise Canceling, Lacks Versatility

Pro - Great sound quality - Fantastic noise canceling - Comfortable - Slim profile - Soft shell carrying case - Includes mobile friendly 3.5mm cable Con - Expensive - Bluetooth can't be used while charging - No USB audio - Can't be used as wired headset - Touch controls sometimes wonky - Defaults to noise canceling mode on power on - Doesn't come with charging wart - Companion mobile app not compatible with older phones Overall The TL/DR on the second gen Sony 1000 is this: if you're looking for some of the best noise canceling headphones to use just with your phone, the 1000XM2 fits the bill. However that doesn't tell the whole story. The 1000XM2 has a lot of good things about it. It's a very comfortable design and wearing them for hours is not a problem. And unlike some competitors, they're sleek and understated for a low-key look. Also great is the storage/carrying. It's a firm soft shell that's enough to hold the headphones and some cords while keeping them from getting beat up and scratched in your bag. The headphones also twist and fold, requiring less space to pack them. Included in the box are a 3' micro USB charging cable, 6' 3.5mm cable, and airplane audio adapter. All three can fit in the case with the headset. You don't get a charging adapter, however. This may be a small thing as you likely have others already. Audio quality is good and very clean. Sony packs in high fidelity codecs like apt-X for those phones that support it. However the noise canceling is the standout feature. Last year's 1000s had the best noise canceling I've ever tried, making it impossible to even hear a conversation three feet away. This updated model doesn't seem quite as good as that, but it's still very good. Your mileage will of course vary ( some hairstyles prevent the cups from properly sealing around your ears ). The included mic is also very good for making phone calls. The 1000XM2 keeps the same touch interface from the previous version. Instead of physical buttons, tapping and swiping on the right ear cup controls play/pause, answer/hang up, next/previous track, and volume up/down. It's easy enough to learn and helps maintain the low-key look of the headphones. Placing your entire palm on the ear cup will temporarily disable the noise canceling and amplify ambient sound if you need to quickly talk to someone. However, the volume only changes one notch per swipe. Quickly changing the volume up or down requires you to repeatedly flick the headphones, like scrolling a long document on a touchscreen. The headphones also default to noise canceling active when you first turn them on. Switching it off requires toggling the sound mode three times. Yeah, first world problems, but I'd prefer it to default to off or just have the headphones return to the same mode they were in when last powered off. If you have a recent model iOS or Android device, you can download a companion app that gives you extra options like changing the equalizer. However it doesn't work with older models ( works on my wife's iPhone 6, but not her older backup iPhone 4 ). You can still pair the headphones with any Bluetooth phone, you just don't get the extra controls. The downside is that the 1000XM2 doesn't have a lot of features outside Bluetooth audio. The included 3.5mm cable is tapered so you can still plug it to your phone through a protective case, which is nice. However it's only a stereo 3-pole cable, not a 4-pole headset connector. In fact, the headphones don't support a 4-pole connector at all. This seems like a big omission since you can't use it as a wired headset for your phone, computer, or gaming console ( why would Sony not want this used with their PlayStation? ). It also doesn't support audio over USB so you can't use it plugged into your computer or PS4. Plugging in the USB also disables Bluetooth so you can't listen wirelessly while charging. The 3.5mm stereo port is still available while charging, but that's it. If you want some great headphones for wirelessly listening to music off your phone, nothing else, and you're willing to pay top dollar, the 1000XM2 is a great headset. However if you want a headset to pull double duty and to be used with your phone, computer, and gaming console, you may be disappointed. The problem is there are other, cheaper options that do have those extended features, they just don't have the sound quality the Sony set has.
