Lots of good options for setting up system. Takes awhile to learn how to use every option. Reading the manual is a must.

    Sony AV Receiver STR-DH770

This receiver has it's plus and minus' from my older STR-DG910. This newer model has no AM Radio and the FM connector is a flimsy wire that has to be strung horizontally somewhere behind the receiver and with that you get poor FM reception. I connected my FM roof antenna to it and now it works. The older 910 had 3 HDMI inputs whereas the 770 has four, but there is only one Optical audio input and one audio coaxial input, whereas the 910 had 3 and 2 respectively. The problem with the 910 was it heated up to the point that the HDMI output cuts out, which is not fun when you are trying to watch a Bluray or DVD through it for the surround sound. I haven't had the 770 long enough to experience the same problem yet. I installed 2 small fans behind the cabinet that holds the receivers to give it more ventilation, so we will see what happens. Both receivers have up to 7.2 surround sound, which when calibrated correctly with the right speakers is good. The 910 has 4 Woofer outputs, while the 770 only has two. I should have researched a little longer and bought the STR-DN860 instead for a few dollars more, but Best Buy doesn't have it.

For a low-cost receiver, this does everything I need and more. Great sound for my TV and movies on my 5.1 surround system.

Bought this to combine several devices connecting to my 4k set and its doing a fine job. Using the device with a 4k tivo box, DVD player, and a roku box. The picture quality is clear and surround sound via the speakers is great. Using the box in a 5.1 channel setup but may add additional speakers later. Great Buy!

Bought this receiver as an upgrade from my Onkyo receiver that didn't support 4K. This was my second choice versus the newer Onkyo receiver due to the number of inputs. I give this a 4 star bc it was easy to set-up sounds good but doesn't deliver the sound I thought it would and only has 4 HDMI inputs. This receiver does pass 4k resolution and for now does what I need it to do. I'm sure I'll be upgrading to another receiver again but it was in sale so you get what you pay for.

Works well - do not get a sound bar

Got this for my parents home - it beats a sound bar with any pair of speakers. Not enough budget - get a good center channel instead speakers and you will be miles ahead and ready for to get stereo your imaging and sound quality will be much better. Also this would actually negotiate and switch all your HDMI devices much better. We tried all sound bars at 500 level and only the $800 one I got my sister for her wedding was worth it's salt - good ones are at $1000. So start with separates.

First Surround Sound System but Very Pleased

This is my first time dabbling in home theater sound but Sony made the setup extremely easy. I paired this system with my Samsung 65" curved 4K TV and the combo has really impressed me. I choose to go with this product because of the 4K HD pass-through capabilities and it has worked seamlessly. You are able to plug all of your HD equipment directly into the audio receiver and then using only one cable connect the receiver to your TV. It makes things really easy as far as wire management is concerned. Setting up your speaker balance is easy with the included microphone you just place the microphone where you intend to sit and hit the Auto-Calibrate button and it levels your speakers for you. I modified these setting a little bit to get more sound from my center channel and sub but everything else was leveled perfectly. The only complaint I have is compatibility for the Playstation 4, while you are able to use the game slot to plug the PS4 directly into the receiver the surround sound options don't work with this setup. After a little googling, it was an easy fix by hooking the PS4 directly to the TV and then the receiver still picks up the audio from the TV.

Sound is incredible. Set up is super easy. Had it up and running in 20 minutes. Choosing different sound modes is a snap. Haven't used second room set up yet, but seems simple enough. Got it for $400, was on sale 2 days later. Best Buy and staff were super awesome to give me credit, made purchase even better. A++

Decent receiver, seems to have no big issues. NO wireless or wired network built in, I don't understand why this is not standard, just for firmware updates if nothing else. At least have a NIC on it. Had I known this before I bought it I would have bought a different brand, my fault. Does not remember the last settings used, so always defaults to Direct. I have found no setting to tell it to use the last settings like my old Sony receiver. Seems odd that this is not standard on all receivers. Why would anyone not want to use the last sound settings and have to manually switch it back every time they turn it on? Fewer inputs then my previous Sony receiver, not a big deal, but it was nice to have the extra expansion options. Menus seem rather basic. Overall a great receiver if you can get it on sale for under $200 or less. I doubt I will purchase another Sony receiver, seems like it gets cheaper and "less for more" every year. I have used Sony products almost my entire life. I will be looking much closer at other brands next time around.

I previously ordered a different brand home theater receiver. It did not play in all my speakers. It was not compatible with my universal remote. I ordered the Sony. It installed easily, played perfectly with my home theater speakers, and was quickly added to my universal remote. This is an excellent appliance for the money.

Manual is incomplete doesn't describe the process of setting up and using this Unit. I'm not an expert but I have never had a problem setting up a Stereo until I bought this one. I have had many Sony Products in the past - They missed the boat on this one...!!
