Customers are saying

Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

Really great sound. I wish it had a tad bit more power but It cranks up pretty good! The Dolby Atmos is amazing and its pretty packed with features. The Chromecast is very nice but its audio only. Why they put Spotify in here is beyond me? You can only use it if you have a paid Spotify account? waste of space if you ask me? But I guess if you pay for Spotify it would be ok. The HDMI switching is way too slow? I mean bad! and there is a lag with the volume? I turn up the volume and can just watch it lag on the tv screen? For sound and features I would give this a 5 star but with the horrible HDMI switching and the volume lag I can barely give it 3 stars

The system is good. I upgraded to this receiver for my Xbox Dolby Atmos system setup and its Bluetooth technology. I really like the Bluetooth feature for my headphones; however, the sound richness is lacking, and the sound volume is kind of low when using the Bluetooth. I think it's for your eardrum protection; I don't know know, I am only speculating. To add, I don't like that when I power on my Bluetooth headphones for other devices, the receiver automatically powers on, even when the Bluetooth is not enabled for listening. I purchased the Sony receiver to replace my 2005 Yamaha receiver. To be honest, my Yamaha receiver is much better but it's old and doesn't have Dolby Atmos and Bluetooth capabilities. This receiver lack the multiple sound setup like the Yahama and it lacked an electrical socket for my subwoofer for automatic power on and off with the system. I will say that this system is good for the price and it is easy to use. However, if I wasn't so cheap I would have purchased another Yahama or at least a Denin at double the price to get the Dolby Atmos and Bluetooth capabilities.

My first A/V receiver and I couldn't be much happier at this point. Ease of use and ease of integration into my smart home have made me very happy with my choice. Everything from setup to suggested speaker placement to excellent sound while enjoying both movies and music. Price and performance so far are excellent.

I have owned this reciever for a month. It has great clean sound. It is paired with polk T50 front and polk center speaker in a 25ft by 30ft room. Currently I am not using surround channels, only the two front channels and the center. The tv, the reciever is attached to is not often used for movies, But I have tried the simulated surround and it is amazingly effective. I don't usually do night club volume music but the power is more than sufficient for watching TV/ movies or enjoying music at good/high volume in the large room it is in. The small quirks I have noticed are that when adjusting the volume of the amp it tries to adjust the volume of the tv also. This was a simple fix by turning off the built in speakers of the tv, but it still shows the volume of the tv being adjusted on the tv screen(this could be an issue specific to the scepter U750cv-u TV). The other issue I have is that the second hdmi output displays a great picture but no sound. The second tv is in the dining room near the room where the main tv is so adjusting the main tv volume up while watching the second television is a temporary fix but I do plan on contacting sony regarding this issue.

So far I’ve been very happy with the receiver. It sounds great in my theater room from a variety of different audio sources. I’m using it with a a surround setup that uses in ceiling speakers for overhead audio. I was hoping to run a Dolby atmos setup with four ceiling speakers but this receiver was designed to run two ceiling speakers. I should have realized this in my reading before purchasing. One other complaint would be it makes a small high pitched humming sound which I believe comes from the display. If I’m on the couch I don’t hear it, but it is noticeable from a few feet away from the receiver. Overall the sound is great and I am expecting this receiver to give me years of great movie audio. For the price it’s a good buy.

Bought this to replace my very old, but still working Sony STR-DE935 receiver. Since I've had such good luck I decided to stick with Sony. Main reason for upgrading was to get the newest Dolby technology. I am very impressed with the sound and the gui is very easy to use. I love the sound field set-up, works great.

Sony str dn1080 is a good budget entry level that beats my other entry to high end receiver like onkyo 696, and onkyo z840 that i both returned, sony is known for speed and wide stage performance, its more clear than onkyo 696 and z840 which is the flagship of onkyo, but this Sony has not much of sound feilds option, if this 1080 has the sound fields like the previous mode 1070, i bet, they will beat all the entry level to some high end level out there in the market, i have the sony dn1070 that has same power but has different sound field that i like better, , even though this 1080 only gives u 100wts x2 channel, it handles my 5.1.2 set very well , with q acoustic 3020i and my micca rb42, i also tried my bose v series and added 2 speakers with this, other receiver couldn’t beat the Sony 1080 and my 1070. In my own liking.

I decided to purchase this unit to update my previous Sony and wow I am blown away. I like the on-screen menu and sound field options. The set-up was really easy, but there are still a few features that I need to learn more about. Just a heads-up, if you want your gaming to sound really REALLY good...use the SA-CD/CD HDMI input and make sure to go into the assignment menu and make it both audio and video. The game input that is recommended SUCKS lol and I sat up all night trying to figure it out...but in the manual in very small print it says that two of the HDMI inputs have enhanced audio...and wow at the sound that comes out. Everything works well with this unit and I love the app that can be downloaded. I can adjust speaker levels from my phone while using the receiver and change the sound fields. It's just a neat app. I'd definitely recommend this Amp. Also Dolby Atmos sounds amazing and the DTS:X....so yeah. Im happy.

I had debated for some time between this receiver and the Denon 940. I actually went to the store to buy the Denon, but for whatever reason, bought this one. I even debated on returning this and buying the Denon. Starting out, once hooked to my Altec Lansing 508A towers, this receiver sounded pretty flat out of the box. I read one reviewer stating the bass would wash out when songs had really picked up musically, and I agreed with that initially. Then, after playing around with some settings and the EQ (which is extremely basic), it now sounds really, really good - great clarity. Bass has some punch now, however, that being said, I think it's time to buy a subwoofer. ;-) As for movies, this receiver was great right out of the box. Additionally, the man that helped me make the decision was very professional and knowledgable.

I had the Str dn1040 and I upgraded to the 1080 and it sounds even better. I also had a chance to hear the str dh590 and compare the two. The dh590 will not disappoint, it is a powerful receiver with superb sound quality, but the 1080 is more powerful as the specs suggest. It is louder and creates a bigger sound stage with ease and the details have more clarity. This thing sounds incredible for the money. I do suggest running the auto calibration a few times and playing distance settings to your speakers as your equipment and speakers break in. It seems to adapt very well to send a good bass signal to the subwoofer that will make it sound rich. It sounded weak the first time I did the calibration but was much better on the 3rd or 4th run.

I really just got this cause the features were awesome for the price. It really is easy to set up and get going. Easy set up is the basic option for a beginner like me. Of course there are more options to choose from. So I chose them. I have a basic 3.1 setup. The wattage claims may be misconstrued a bit. If you hook up 6 or 8 ohm speakers that max out at 200 you're fine. If you have speakers that max out at 500 or 600 watts you may never max them out. That being said, know you're listening space, the furniture, the carpet or lack there of, distance from the speakers to you and from the speakers themselves. I factored all that into my decision. So yes I am happy with my purchase. Would have been 5 stars if the bluetooth was more efficient to run rear surround. I'd recommend this to a friend.

Recently upgraded to this amplifier after my previous Sony amplifier gave out after many years of reliable use. The remote and physical interface of the amplifier is much simpler and streamlined as compared to my previous amplifier. The on screen display is more refined and user friend. Set up is simple, especially with the provided microphone which enables auto set-up of the surround sound speakers. The 7.2 surround sound is rich and full. Has a generous number of HDMI inputs (six) and it switches automatically when it senses that one of the devices is turned on. Also interfaces well with our Vizio TV and the amplifier will automatically turn on and off with the TV.

Replaced a Sony 1050 to get HDR and atmos. Pretty much the same great sound quality. CEC works well with an LG OLED TV. This model does drop the component inputs that previous models like the 1050 had, and there's no analog-digital converter anymore so old game systems or other devices that use composite inputs won't display if your TV is attached via HDMI cable. but I guess they had to drop something to add atmos and phantom rear surrounds.

Have had this receiver for almost one month, so haven't been able to test all the bells and whistles. This is my 3rd Sony receiver with surround sound in the past 20 years, so I've been around the block a few times. Overall: Using it in a 5.1 speaker system, but looking to add the two height speakers to make it 7.1. Seems to play audio fields pretty life-like. However, when using the auto-calibrate, the speaker distances were quite different from real-life, and the back channels, at times, seem to be a bit too loud. I might have to recalibrate manually. Downside: Right now, the only things keeping me from giving it 5 stars are that the menus are STILL a bit clunky (but better than previous units), and the manual E.Q. only allows for bass and treble adjustment (come on, it's not 1975!). Summary: Seems to be a solid receiver for the price-point ($399).
