I bought this receiver at the same time I bought my new 4K Sony tv. The two devices interoperate quite well. The receiver was easy to setup, and has lots of hdmi inputs. The sound is excellent and provides a movie theatre experience when viewing a 4K source. Does exactly what I wanted and expected it to do. I have 7 speakers and a sub. My xbox one x works great through this receiver.

The power and configuration options are intuitive and it has plenty of expansion for 7 or so HDMI inputs. It also supports one optical interface and the sound with my 12yr old speakers is still incredible!

Very good and convincing surround, good power, could be better. Have hard to drive speakers hooked up and usually am pushing over 50%, but it sounds not strained at all. Easy setup and super intuitive hook ups and communications with other devices and WiFi and Bluetooth.

Great sound production, great design and lots of options that couldn’t beat.

This Sony STR-DN1080 is really a powerhouse of a receiver! I have tested all the 4k inputs and outputs, and they all work flawlessly. This receiver really has everything you could want without spending $1000 or more. The features are amazing for the price. The sound quality, even with reasonably priced speakers, is outstanding! Thanks Sony, keep up the great work!

My Sony STR-DN840 finally failed after many years. The STR-DN1080 was an easy swap that provided the same features plus 4K and improved sound and video support. Setup was easy especially since the inputs were similar to my older Sony receiver. The auto sound calibration worked very well--the sound from my 5.1 speakers was noticeably better after the 1080 auto calibration than it had been previously with the older 840 model. New features like Bluetooth support for my phone are a plus as well. Overall, made it seem like I'd just upgraded all my home theater equipment. This is a very solid performer for the price.

I bought this open box. But I've had no issues with it. It plays 4k60 HDR no issues. Just make sure you set your device on enhanced mode in the settings. I would also make sure you pick up the proper hdmi cables with enough bandwidth to send that type of data. The menu and setup is super easy to use. The box itself looks like any other average receiver so I can't speak much on that. But the sound has been great with my klipsch reference series speakers. Dolby atmos setup is recommended for the best experience. To be a reciever that is a few years old, it definitely has all the bells and whistles for the price.

GREAT brain for your home theater...I am getting very tired of companies though like Sony dropping suggested Ohms ratings to 6 just to inflate the power (RMS). My major issue is there are NO tech support from sony which actually respond accordingly. Just a weak forum which has weak answers from lost clowns. I wanted to see if Bose would work for atmos height speakers, possibly the stereo everywhere would work well for height coverage...or it could create a comb filtery mess. I still dont know so Im just going to try it. Staff totally inept at store. Great options, easy setup BUT i DO miss the features in similar Yamaha receivers...Le Sigh...But GREAT product all around. Support makes it less than 5 star. PS: I paired this with Polk Monitor 70 series II for fronts, Monitor 40s for rear, Polk CS10 for center, and a BIC F12 for sub. VERY pleased with tone so far. Just a little punchy.

I gave this four stars because of the price. That and it did away with some quick buttons on the remote. Buttons that I could easily switch from Game/Blu ray/SAT(Cable) to my built PC (Video). It does not have a quick button for Video which my PC is hooked up to. Could easily connect it to another HDMI slot, but choose not to as a personal preference. Small price to pay for a great Dolby Atmos receiver and replacement for an older Sony receiver that had 4K passthrough but also 7.2. Setup was definitely easier than the older system, with a more visual presentation for a room with speakers. The receiver will configure your setup for Height/ceiling speakers and other changes such as speaker orientation (5.1, 7.1 or whatever).

Purchased to control two zones in a new vacation house. Easy set up if you use on screen menu system. Auto calibration worked well. Bonus for me was the 4k UHD support for our OLED system. Streaming Spotify to the deck as Zone B while driving 5.1 audio for the tv in the family room as Zone A works like a charm. Very happy with purchase. No regrets!

This has been a great unit for my home theatre running my Klipsch speakers. Can crank it up and shake the house and feel like there is still more there.

The unit was easy to setup. I have an older Harmony One remote control and this unit doesn't work as well with it because it wants to switch to TV instead of SAT where I have my box connected. Not necessarily an issue with the receiver but something to make others aware of. Sound quality is good and video quality is good.

After lots of research, and being familiar with Sony receivers in the past, I finally landed on the Sony STRDN-1080. So far I am very impressed with it. Setup and calibration was quick and easy, and it runs my 5.2.2 home theater flawlessly. Dolby Vision and Atmos together look and sound incredible, as the receiver passes through, and outputs both formats with no problem from an Apple TV 4K. From watching movies and listening to music, to playing games on PlayStation 5, regardless of the source everything this AVR outputs sounds epic. Highly recommend this one.

I previously had the 1070 model and loved it so much I decided to get the next version and I was not disappointed. Going through the Atmos speaker calibration give me ideas on not just how I should setup my speakers but how many speakers I should use for the area. It sounds amazing and has the right amount of ports and options. The OS is still the same as the previous version and not the greatest interface but it works. Its overwhelming when searching for a new receiver, its nice to know a trusted brand is still making great products.

Perfect for people who want to get into home theater. I haven't had any problems with the Sony str-dn1080. I would recommend to buy a usb fan to keep the system cool as it tends to get pretty hot due to the amount of power this thing holds. The sound quality is clear and it can hit you. You can tell where the sound is coming from. Unfortunately the bass for the regular channels seem to not move my speakers woofers very much (I have a set of Klipsch speakers) but it still has a pretty good punch. Definitely recommend 2 subs for this reciever.

I was originally looking at receivers that cost at least double the price of this Sony receiver; however, each time I performed side by side comparisons, this receiver had all the functionality of those much more expensive receivers. Since I have a Sony TV and Sony 4k bluray, I figured I'd give this receiver a shot at the championship belt. It was a knock out! Very easy to set up, great documentation, outstanding sound. I'm using the this receiver in a 7.1 setup and I am very impressed/satisfied with the sound reproduction. If you're in the market for a receiver, I would strongly recommend adding this receiver to your side by side comparisons.

My old receiver had been on its last legs for quite a while and I finally decided to replace it. So far, this unit has produced fantastic sound quality. Setup is quite simple, almost automated. One issue we've encountered is repeatedly receiving HDCP errors on my Roku, especially after changing settings on the receiver. I've never encountered this before. While it's a bit of a pain, a quick restart of the Roku usually fixes it. I'm hoping that once I have all my levels set to my liking, I won't run into this anymore (as I won't have to tweak as much). If anyone has insight into what's causing this, I'd love to hear about a permanent fix.
