Customers often highlight the excellent sound quality, ease of use, and Dolby Atmos capabilities of the 1155W 7.2-Ch. A/V Home Theater Receiver. Many also appreciate the receiver's power and straightforward setup process. While some users noted the unit can get warm during operation and that the menu system could be improved, the positive feedback on sound and ease of use outweighs these concerns for most buyers. The price point is also frequently cited as a positive aspect.

Great AV Receiver

I bought this receiver to replace a Pioneer Elite receiver I purchased in 2006. It was a superb receiver, but it lacked enough HDMI ports to support my new system components. I looked at various receivers in-store and online and the Sony had everything I was looking for -- sufficient HDMI ports, 4K up-convert, HDR capability, and power to shake the house if needed. I am using this with a 5.1 system of Klipsch speakers and the sound is superb. I like the remote and the on-screen interface, too. I haven't seen anything better for the price and would buy it again.

The Onkyo that I just purchased is a really versatile receiver and has the 2 zone capability that integrated with both my old and new speakers.

I would give this 5 stars but for 3 hrs I had to figure out how to get the system to stop going to the home screen but providing a blank screen. Finally, I figured it out by pressing a ton of buttons, lol. Once it was on the screen the controls were easy & I was able to setup everything which was very easy. The amount of watts you get per channel kills my previous pioneer system I had only total 550 watts. I got this on sale for $399 the very next day it went back to $599. Couldn't be happier with my purchase. Dolby Atmos sound incredible & I'm only running 5.1 right now.

Very easy to set up. The only complaint is that the ports and remote are tied to specific things like DVD, Game and TV. I know what I plugged in but if my mother comes over it won’t make sense to her. Would rather just have numbers assigned.

It’s the best receiver for the money right now. It is perfect for a medium budget system. It has several HDMI ports, supports Dolby Atmos, is pretty user friendly, has EARC and is a 7.1 system (which is generally the right size for a man cave). That said, it does not support HDMI 2.1. Given the issues with HDMI 2.1, I opted for this receiver and will get a 2.1 receiver whenever 2.1 is figured out....likely around Black Friday 2021.

I replaced my 5 year old Yamaha receiver (nothing wrong with it) with the Sony 4K Ultra HD home theater receiver hoping to improve picture quality and sound quality. I found both were improved and couldn't be more happy with the results.

It seems that for many years Sony was trading on its name while delivering pathetic low-end audio and home theatre products. I am relieved to say this 7.2 receiver is a great piece of mid-priced audio engineering.
The receiver is packed with features. My requirements were straightforward: HDMI output for two TVs with ARC support for one, multiple HDMI inputs, and two speaker zones. I attached four speakers from my existing home theatre set up but replaced the sub-woofer and the center speaker with Sony Core speakers. So far everything has worked flawlessly.
I tried to install this myself but ultimately I had to get an installation rescue. It wasn't because the technology is overly complicated or the manual poorly written. It was because I am a senior citizen with arthritic hands and the receiver's back panel is jam-packed. Trying to thread speaker wires into the connectors in a cramped space with poor lighting turned the air blue with cuss words. Geek Squad to the rescue.
A great feature is that you have control over each speaker's volume level. I live in a condo so this feature is important if you want to remain on good terms with your neighbors. Good job, Sony!

It's been awhile since I purchased unit, think I caught it on sale at the time. Haven't had any issues with it and it gets used about 16-20 hours a day. It's used in conjunction with a Sony X900F 65" TV and Sony DVD player. Get's plenty loud, has lots of inputs. Have Polk Lsi speakers hooked up to it and it has no problems driving them. One of the best bang for your buck receivers out there, but there is probably a newer version of this by now.

Sounds good. the .2 for the subs is confusing in set up because it doesn't really treat them as stereo or anything. I'm still using both so they work great for now. If you use the Atmos, its a 5.1.2 set up, really. 5 Mains, .1 sub (i'm using 2 still and works fine) and .2 for ceiling speakers just over the seating area. Sounds amazing when content uses it. Great value for what it is. Not cheap but not the greatest either.

Purchased on a whim. My Onkyo TX-NR757 took a dump one night after accepting it's demise I sought a replacement immediately. Coming from a selection of Paradigm, Oppo and Klipsch gear I was second guessing a 'SONY' purchase. I needed something with power with all of todays requirements to rock the house visually and harmonically. Cost was a driver in this selection as Christmas was a day away, I wasn't prepared to spend $1000 for a spontaneous replacement. Sony - 1155W caught my eye as I delved deep into the reviews. I was sold in 10 minutes of reading and I made the purchase. I could not be any happier with my purchase. The video is better than I expected and the sound gave me goose bumps as it rocked my 5.2.2 home theater system. Bass sounded crisp and hard and highs were clear as a live concert.
The simple remote doesn't matter since I have a Harmony universal remote set up which I highly recommend for anyone with a multi system setup. Like another reviewer, I do not go to the movies, I have the whole experience at my house. Sorry I second guessed Sony. Best purchase 2019!!

I recently purchased the Sony receiver for use in my basement. All I can say is that that sound is amazing. I have had several Onkyo receivers in the past and this Sony receiver sounds better, was much easier to set up, and has a much better user interface than the Onkyo's that I have had. I am completely impressed with this receiver and would recommend it to anyone that is looking for amazing sound quality, ease of use, and intuitive setup.

If you need a clear sounding receiver that will handle SACD, DTS, DVD-Audio, and have enough inputs for a streaming device like Apple TV, video games, a turntable, etc., you can’t go wrong with this for the money. It’s even Atmos compatible so you can expand to accommodate that if needed. I couldn’t be more happy with this receiver.

Outstanding sound and features! I’m still trying to figure out whether the Dolby Atmos makes a significant difference, but I feel like I do hear and benefit from the upward-firing sound when watching movies. My Sony is paired is with Pioneer Atmos tower-topping speakers (topping my matching Pioneer towers). I recommend giving this receiver and speaker set up a try if you haven’t experienced Atmos.

If you're looking to upgrade your old receiver you can't go wrong with the Sony STRDN1080. After having used an old AIWA receiver with a built-in tape deck and CD player for the past 10 years, I decided it was time for an upgrade. This receiver has all of the new options that will make your life easier, streaming from your computer and mobile phone, seven different audio channels(and a subwoofer), and a also a connection for an extra set of speakers you may have in a different room(zone 2). One important thing to note is that you can only have seven channels active at the same time, so if you are listening to music in zone 2, then you can't enjoy seven channel surround in the main room. Another important thing to note is that the bass response is lacking on this receiver. You can play around in the options and turn up the bass, but it's not as responsive as I would like. I wish I could do it with a touch of a button like many old receivers had years back. No bass boost button here. Overall, I'm satisfied and would recommend this receiver to anyone looking to upgrade from an older model. The final, and one of the most important things I'd like to say, is be sure to buy a small fan because this receiver runs hot. A small computer fan placed on the top left side of the receiver will keep the STRDN1080 cool and will increase its lifespan for years to come.

You will be hard pressed to find a receiver under $3000 that out performs this Sony. it is a cinch to set-up and the remote and interface are refreshingly simple and the sound is nothing short of amazing for the price. This reviewer also owns a Marantz 7012 and id say that i prefer this Sony even though its a quarter of the price ! A no brainer for any home theater
