I prefer buying the membership card so I don't have to put my credit card information on the PlayStation and my child can continue to enjoy all the perks of online playing.

Yes $50 is pretty steap but you get to play online with friends and get free games every month. It's pretty much on par with Xbox live and that's a good thing!
