Great headphones. Sounds perfect. Only critique would be ear pads make your ears sweat and no hard case to store them.

I had $115.00 in Best Buy rewards --- was worried about them expiring and not getting to use them. I already had 2 pairs of headphones --- one smaller pair of Sony headphones and a large pair of Audio Technica large closed-back style headphones. I was relatively happy with both, but figured I may as well apply the rewards toward an upgrade. I paid $198.40, out the door. Was able to use three rewards certificates at one time, as long as my additional purchase was for more than the savings amount. No problem there! One certificate had expired, but they renewed the expiration date. That was also cool. Anyway, I could not be happier right now. These sound amazing. Next to purchase is a headphone amplifier for listening to music that has levels that are too low. The Neve one I am looking at costs $500.00! You won't find it at Best Buy or Guitar Center, sadly.

I paid $200 for these. Wanted wired headphones so I don’t irradiate my cranium from a Bluetooth product. The treble & bass amplitude on this headphone are too minimal; frequency response is weighted towards mid-range. I have not tried them with a stereo amplifier yet. They are comfortable to wear though. Most High-end headphones are hundreds of dollars more expensive; this is not a bad value overall.

I got these to use while working out on my treadmill. They work fine. My only issue is that I can hear it when the cord rubs on the treadmill handle. I am surprised that this noise is conducted into my ear. I very much like that they are passive so there are no batteries to keep charged or replace.

I noticed immediately the different sounds that normally were obscure were much more clear. I had them combined with dragonfly red. My adapter to use with my smartphone was unreliable, so that will be replaced. I expect that to make this purchase shine again.

Best headphones ever

I’m gonna knock out the bad stuff first. These headphones are not Bluetooth, they are not noise cancelling, the box feels a little cheap and they are not water resistant. Ok, now that that is out of the way I can talk nothing but praise for these amazing headphones.
My first thing I have to say, go out and buy these. These are probably the best sounding headphones I have ever put on my ears. I have used a lot of high end wireless headphones over the years but I always fall back to wired for listening to high quality music. My library consists of a lot of music from HD Tracks and 7Digital so I had a lot of 24 bit audio ranging from 44khz to 192khz used in my testing. My equipment used ranged from my PC which had on board audio (with support for HD 24bit 96khz) and on my phone which has a quad DAC on it.
Unboxing was pretty basic but not bad. The outer packaging looks nice but feels rather cheap and tears apart pretty easily. You then find a nice box inside of the cheap layer that folds open with heavy duty cardboard. The headphones are resting inside on a pillow of cloth and soft materials. You will find a warranty booklet, a carrying case and the cable inside. I first did my testing on my phone since it has support for HD Audio and a quad DAC to power these babies. I loaded it with HD Audio tracks from Kacey Musgraves, Khalid, the Hamilton Soundtrack and Daft Punk to get a decent range of audio. My mind was instantly blown with each sample. I think the biggest improvement from my old set of cans is the ability to easily separate the harmonics. I am used to those types of audio blending together nicely, but these Sony headphones make each part of the track stand out distinctly with no loss of quality allowing them to blend together just like a live performance. I felt most of the audio had a flat feel to it with no portion of the audio feeling overpowered. The bass was loud but clear and a little more punchy than normal but not to the point where it overwhelms, the highs are crisp and stand out distinctly. The mids are extremely clear. I felt no need to mess with the EQ on my device as everything just feels like it sounds like it was originally intended. These headphones made me want to listen to all my favorite albums all over again to see what tiny parts of the audio I have been missing out on over the years. Supposedly they support 3hz to 100khz so your pets might like it since I am pretty sure no human can hear sounds in those ranges.
As for the hardware itself, my first impression was surprise on how light they are. There is a lot of plastic, memory foam and leather all over these but I feel it works pretty well. I am used to high quality headphones trying to integrate lots of metal for a more premium feel and heft, but it is kind of relieving having a high quality pair so light you barely notice them when you wear them. The plastic is obvious, but it does not feel cheap by any means. The foam on the ear cups is stunning. Most of us have felt memory foam before but this is some of the softest memory foam I have ever felt. It is like a soft pillow on your ears. I have been listening to them for about 5 hours today along (I should really take them off) and I feel zero discomfort or overabundance of heat. Though these have no ANC, they block a lot of the outside sound out due to their design.
The design itself is rather pleasing with a lower profile on your head (I can’t stand cans that stuck out and make my head look even bigger than it is). The cord is detachable from the headphones and sticks out of the back of the left side creating a nice streamlined look. If the cord matters to you it fells high quality with a durable rubber coating. There is an inline remote on it with a single button for pausing/skipping and a microphone to take calls on. There is also a cable with a four band connector used for their Walkman lineup, I did not get a chance to test as I do not have one of their newer HD Walkmans.
Again, this is the best set of headphones I have ever heard, it is very hard to find a fault with them if you are in the market for a wired set of high quality headphones

I read reviews on many headphones, these were the best rated in my price range.
Bottom line it comes down to the quality the music that you're listening to.
Still, anything that's been digitally enhanced especially from the 60's and 70s, sounds a lot better then when that music first came out.

These headphones sound and work great. In a world of wireless technology, we sometimes forget how convenient a pair of wired headphones are. If you’re looking for a good pair, these are the way to go. They work great for movies and video games.

It’s not a flat sounding headphone. To my ear it “enhances” the sound a little bit to make it “musical”.
I compared to some relatively high priced headphones ($400-$800) at bestbuy and this is what i liked most.

Sony MDR-1Am2 Headphones.
First impressions. The headphones are very light, I have worn them for 2 hours at a time and did not notice any discomfort. They are closed back, over the ear style. They come with 2 somewhat short cords, about 47” in length. 1 cord is the Sony 4 wire full balanced connector. The other is a phone adapter cord with a mic in-line. The phone cord changes the headphones from full 4 wire balanced input to standard stereo 3 wire with a 4th wire for the mic. Using the 4 wire balanced cord I noticed no difference in sound compared to the 3 wire stereo cord. Possibly an audiophile may be able to distinguish the difference, but my ears are no longer sensitive enough to hear the difference.
The bass response is standard Sony booming bass. Specs say 3 Hz to 100,000 Hz. The bass is boomy and the treble is really over done as well. This is not a bad thing to have. If the bass is boomy you can always adjust it down until it fits your requirements. The same applies to the treble, just adjust it until it suites your listening tastes. The only real draw back came in the mid tones. I found it really easy to adjust the boomy bass and the piercing treble, but the mids seem to fall off completely. By adjusting the mids up just a bit, between 500 HZ and 1000 Hz, I got a perfect sound quality. Only one issue with this, when adjusting the stereo to bring out the best in these headphones, my Polk Audio monitor speakers now sound like crap. So if these headphones are your only listening device you will be able to make the proper adjustments and have beautiful sound. If they are used only on occasion, you will find adjustments need to be made when changing from speakers to headphones. I did notice that at low listening levels no adjustments need to be made. I don’t listen at low levels, 20 years of jet engines have made that impossible.
A note about the cords supplied. One is the Sony 4 wire 5 pole 4.5 mm connector. I’m not sure how many vendors have adopted that design. The other is really meant to be used on a phone, tablet, or maybe a laptop, not a stereo. I built a standard 3 wire to 4 wire adapter to plug them into my stereo. I wanted to purchase one but could only find them for around $100.00. Considering the parts to build the adapter only cost about $10.00 (retail) I couldn’t justify purchasing the adapter. I was also unable to locate a cord from Sony that would do the job. I did find one in the UK but by the time I order it, pay shipping and vat I’m just about back to the $100.00 and I have to wait 3 weeks to get it.
Bottom line. They are comfortable, lay flat, have a carrying case and 2 cords to hook up to different source types. They can be used as a phone headset and they will create some of the best bass and treble I have heard in headphones at this price point. If listening from a phone that has no real amp behind it they will sound great right out of the box.
