Taking wired headphones to another level.

Most headphones and earbuds I have reviewed are either Bluetooth w/ EQ adjustments or favor a range of frequencies over the whole sound experience. While these appear to be just another pair of wired headphones with no frills, you would be right, until you dig into the details and specifications of the Sony 1AM2. Then you try them on, queue up your favorite music and have your jaw drop at the clarity of the sound these put out. I'm not an audiophile, don't have an external DAC to connect these to, or have an audio test bench to analyze these with. Sony has done an incredible job of producing an affordable, astonishing clean, and for the most part a neutral sound that is typically sought out at much higher price ranges, including Sony's much higher end studio headphones. I have primarily tested these on my Galaxy S8, have turned off any and all EQ and sound enhancements to ensure that my phone was outputting pure, unadulturated sound. My expectations were uneven performance across frequency ranges, muddied sound with songs that hit across the lows, mids and highs and a generally flat tone. Don't confuse neutral with flat, neutral sound is all about the engineering and design that goes into a pair of headphones that strive for it. The 1AM2s are as close as you can get to neutral without dropping $1000s more into additional equipment. If you want to experience "how it sounds as it was recorded", these do a very good job of it. I have run a couple of rudimentary youtube headphone tests, that push the extremes of upper and lower frequencies and everything in between, channel separation, and quite a few others. Can these headphones hit 100hz without distortion, yes they can, can these hit 20Khz as well, absolutely. I tend to favor movie soundtracks to dig into the details of what I expect to hear and what I end up hearing. There are definitely a number of noteworthy John WIlliams compositions that I typically will reference when I do my own tests. Jurassic Park, End Credits for The Last Jedi, and quite a few other albums that I use. I have tested these across many genres, and have yet to find fault with leaving the EQ off on my phone. Absolutely the most pleasant listening experience I have had to date. You can't go wrong with the Sony 1AM2, it's the right price and delivers an audiophile experience that is difficult to match without going hundreds or thousands higher in cost.

These headphones, for me, were a good fit and had a good quality sound. I tested on a notebook/tablet and on a mobile phone and on both devices the sound was appropriate volume and sounded probably more clear than some other headphones i have used. I like that the headphone cable is removable/replaceable, for me, the cable is usually the first part to break. It came with two headphone adapter size cables, a "standard" plug and a "mini" plug, though for the devices i tested, the mini plug seemed to be the correct size.

These are great headphones for people working in a studio. They offer premium and high quality sound. The only downside to the headphones is that they seem to be light and made out of plastic. It makes them feel less premium. They also are wired and do not have any wireless capability. All of this being said for any kind of music or video editing they offer very premium sound.

At first I was not sure about the price of these, but after listening to them. you have to pay for quality...and Sony does it right. If your phone has a high powered DAC, you will love these even more. Try them out plugged in, and be amazed at the sound quality you get. OMG...you are gonna just have to buy them and try them...

The box they come is super nice and presented nicely. I love the material of cords use. They're not noise cancelling but are otherwise nice. Comfortable for plane rides.

Cord too short and difficult to replace

A pretty good headset from the little I've been able to use it so far. If a ~4 foot cord isn't long enough for you it's a PAIN to find a longer one that fits because of how the 3.5mm housing is on the headset itself which is why I'm putting it at 3 stars. I've had it about a week but can't use them because of the cord length and can't use any other 3.5's I already have which is a huge design flaw. What's the point of a replaceable cable that only the factory one fits? Can't recommend unless this is exactly what you need out of the box.

    Best headphones I've used

Great sounds headphones. The bass was a bit much on my galaxy s6. The s6 probable has a hidden eq causing that. Using it direct into my macbook still sounds amazing. Nice pouch and cables. Putting on these headphones are always the best sensation you get when it comes to entry pairs.

These didn't do it for me. Sounded clean and refined which others might like but didn't have that magic I was looking for.

I would not give a 1 star had there been an option for "0 stars". Not a reliable brand at all. I had a different model of Sony headphones , and it broke by the hinge. Reached out to both US and Japan headquarters about the issue. Received a reply email stating that the Sony engineers agree that there is a defect with the product, but they cannot exchange it because it was out of warranty. If a product has a defect, and company admits it, then why does not matter what the purchase date it. Anyway I highly recommend to stay away from sony headphones in general.

Don't appear to be "noise cancelling" as per...

Best Buy offers these as "noise cancelling" headphones when I selected the filters, yet they use no batteries nor do they have a power switch. After they arrived, I tried to use customer service "Chat" with Best Buy to clarify the confusion. The customer service rep could not understand my comments written in simple English. I gave up. Oddly, these seem to have gone up in price 50 bucks since I bought them two weeks ago. Will just keep them and not buy from Best Buy anymore due to the apparent misdirection they have given me.
