Great Lense

I'm a long time photographer, and have always wanted to own a good telephoto lense. After much reviewing and saving I was able to get this 200-600mm zoom lense. After a little time with it, here are some of my pros and cons:
Pros:
Works with my mirrorless Sony camera with no need for adapters.
Amazing zoom quality.
Solid internal zoom, so no need to account for more lense casing.
Rotatable tripod mount. (Allows for rotating between portraite and landscape photos without relying on flimsy tripod tilt mounts)
Quiet auto focus, and so the animals aren't scared.
Cons:
Weight (5lbs starts to hurt the shoulders and arms after a long session of photos)
Slightly steep learning curve, I feel as though due to the lense size itself, it can receive a larger amount of light and so you need to be sure on your cameras settings.
Focal distance. (8ft minimal focus distance is quite a ways off if you are looking to get some floral shots)
Overall, I really do love this lense. If you are an amateur, professional or just an enthusiast in general, you won't regret this beauty.

This Sony 200-600mm is my first longer lens purchase. I researched several lenses and decided on this Sony product.
Technical and user reviews guided me to the Sony. And, the price was within my budget.
I am a nature photography enthusiast and certainly not a professional, but this lens meets my needs and then some.
As with any new lens, there's a learning curve - but, for me, that's part of the enjoyment.
This lens is heavier than any other you may use. It's possible to shoot free-hand, but after a relatively short time, your arms will fatigue and, for close-up shots, holding the camera/lens still enough can be a real challenge. I use a monopod for stability which works great and is much more portable than a tripod.
Check the specifications for the lens and your camera (info available on Sony's website), but my understanding is this lens is compatible with Sony alpha series cameras: I currently use it with a Sony a6000 (I don't use a teleconverter).
I really like this lens and look forward to capturing some great images.

Definitely worth the price! This lens has amazing autofocus and is tack sharp even for getting shots of birds in flight! Definitely big, and heavy and doesn’t fit in my large camera bag, but it’s a must have lens for nature/wildlife photographers!

Excellent
This zoom has been a bug in my pocket for some time, and I finally bit and got this fantastic lens.
I love zooms, so versatile.
What's the first thing people do with a zoom of this caliber? Take a moon shot, of course. I also took photos of various objects, including birds just to be sure this is a sharp lens and it is.
One big reason for this lens is that it has internal zoom. I don't like those heavy zoom lens that grow in length when zoom. All that wear and tear of those moving parts moving a tube with heavy glass in it. This guy skips all that. Zoom is quite and very smooth.
This lens is heavy, as one would expect. Considering what it does it is very acceptable.
It has a lot of features I need to look into further. What I do like is that big ring on the lens is the zooming ring. It is in an excellent place, right where you would hold the lens when shooting. The smaller ring is for manual focusing.
Now, is it sharp? Yes, very sharp. The pictures I took of detailed objects show extremely good sharpness for a zoom lens. I took photos ranging from the moon, birds eating my persimmons, tree trunk and leaves. All very good and even handheld, the lens performed greatly. The images stabilization built in the lens did a great job when handhold camera and lens when shooting.
While this lens is a 200-600mm lens for a full frame Sony camera, it becomes a 300-900mm lens when hooked up to a Sony a6000 series of crop sensor cameras. That can come in handy for those needing to reach way out there for a photo.
I am exceedingly happy with this lens. It fits in nicely with my 70-200 f4.0 and 18-105 f4.0 zoom lens. All with internal zooming.
I would say the price may be high for some, but it is worth it as it works perfectly with Sony cameras. Zooming is fantastic and focusing is fast and spot on.

Great lens for soccer, and other outdoor sports!

I bought these lens because I needed great pictures with good reach and sharp autofocus. These needs were particularly important for a game like soccer because of how big a soccer field is, with 22 players running all over the field and the need to freeze the action especially with the ball and players moving so fast.
I used the lens with a Sony A9 and the overall experience was really good. The lens has a 200mm - 600mm range, which provided a lot of versatility for me on the sidelines. The autofocus response was fantastic when combined with the Sony A9's focusing capabilities.
My carried the lens throughout the shoot, and since it was a total of 2 hours at a stretch, my arms got tired at some point because the lens are a bit heavy. However, i've since purchased a mono-pod stick and can't wait to start shooting games again post-COVID, as i believe this should address the weight problem.
Overall, i'm very pleased with the purchase and i'm glad i bought it.

Phenomenal lens. A total step up and game changer in my wildlife photography, would recommend to anyone looking for a great lens especially for birding. Zooming in on my subject while keeping quality of image is great, now I don't need to crop in nearly as much if it all.

Very crisp pictures once I figured out how to use the manual focus for nesting birds with branches in front of them. Beautiful colors.
The lens is very heavy. I have not used a tripod yet but will
be. The focus capture for a clear picture is rather slow using the auto feature but once it focuses it does an amazing job. I also like that it goes down to 200 mm for pics that aren't so far away.

This is a lens if you don't want to need 1,4x or 2x converters that will take one or two stops of light away from other shorter lenses. great for wild life, compressed landscapes. Not a lens for a beginner. It takes some skill to use. its heavy but if you are OK with that it can be great.

This review is purely my opinion only. Overall pretty good lens. Considering the price not a great value and that it is not made in Japan, hence minus one star. Should Sigma release a DG DN version it will no doubt it will cost about half the Sony G lens and match the G lens performance. Until then, the Sony G lens will have to suffice. While it does surpass the Sigma 150-600 C lens, with a MC-11 adapter, in nearly all regards expect price, I suspect the untrained eye will not be able to tell the final images apart. To match my shooting style, I mated a NISI Ti UV filter and installed a Wimberley foot. Hand holding is not a problem as the lens optical stabilization and Sony (7iii) camera IBIS work fine together. Be aware the lens is longer compared to the Sigma lens and may require you to purchase a larger capacity photo bag or backpack like that made by ThinkTank which could set you back a couple of hundred. I tossed in some snapshots just for fun.

Amazing lens. Definitely a keeper. Pros: Sharp, great zoom range, G-lens quality. Cons: HEAVY and bulky. Given the zoom range of 600mm, no surprises on its weight.
I took a picture of the moon. The lens was mounted to an a7RIVA.

Upgraded from the Sigma 150-600, and wow what a difference! Focusing is absolutely lightning fast and accurate. The only difficulty is with small birds that are more than 50 feet away, but you can easily overcome that with single-point autofocus. Anything bigger than a dollar is a piece of cake to track and get tack sharp photos of. I will recommend this to anyone shooting wildlife with a Full Frame Sony camera!

Just love this lens. I shouldn't have waited so long to purchase. Some limitations in low light situations but modern noise cancelling/reduction in software almost makes it a non factor. I don't think I'll ever need the 600 F4. I own several Sony lenses and had been using the respectable Sigma 100-400 but this has been on my camera 95% of the time since purchase...

I've had 'Big Bertha' for about 6 months now, and she never disappoints. The shots come out clean and clear. I do need to find a better tri/monopod that can support her weight and a new backpack as well so she can stay in with her other lens siblings and not sleeping outside lol. I don't regret the money I spent on her one but! The moon photo i attached was from our last supermoon. I messed with the ISO settings to get it really black around it.

This lens is absolutely fantastic! We have taken it on several trips and have captured some truly amazing images of animals that were at a relatively far distance.
The size is okay for hiking with, just recommend a backpack or shoulder strap, as the lens is fairly heavy, but its very easy to use especially if you're already used to using Sony Lenses.
