I did a lot of research and trial and error when I was looking for a new TV. I wanted a TV with solid and snappy smart features (no cable) that was going to be reliable and be as minimally annoying as possible. Primary concerns for me with looking at buying a mid-range TV included items such as fast smart features and backlight clouding/flash-lighting. I didn't want to spend hundreds of dollars on a TV and then every time I watch a movie be seeing an annoying clouding that I can't take my eyes off of. Similarly, I didn't want to have a TV that would aggravate me every time I tried to use smart features because of slow speeds.
Backlight clouding is present, although it is only visible in a very dark room during dark scenes. I had exchanged this TV for a new one because of an unrelated issue, and both sets had essentially identical clouding (Some clouding roughly all over the screen with 2 distinct smudges in the bottom third of the screen in the center). Hard to ask for much better with an edge-lit type LED TV, especially one that is as thin as this! The clouding can be seen but it is not overly bright or annoying during normal viewing.
The smart features such as casting and other apps seem to function very well and are pleasant to use. Very rarely will I find myself waiting for an app to load for more than a few seconds. The first TV I had exchanged was very buggy and would randomly restart and certain apps like Crackle and YouTube would crash or not work at all, causing the entire TV to restart when I tried to use them. I am not sure why this was happening but I had tried everything to resolve it including contacting customer support to no resolution. The new set has had none of the same issues and has worked essentially flawlessly since day one (been using for almost 6 months now).
My primary use for this TV is movies including 3D, and the picture quality is very good. Bluray movies are crystal clear and there seems to be no noticeable anomalies during normal viewing (aside from backlight clouding as mentioned). I have only used a few 3D TVs personally, but I don't have anything negative to say about this feature. Pairing glasses is very simple and basically instantaneous. The picture is extremely clear and based on the movie, provides great 3D effects. Even if you don't use the 3D capability often or ever, this TV should still be one to consider because it has a better panel that will offer a very clear picture during standard viewing. The blacks are very deep and using the manual color setting you can adjust the colors to suit your liking, although there are several preset options. Regardless, you will see great contrast and coloring.
This TV has a very strong balance between smart features, picture quality, and overall user experience. Given the issues common in LED TVs today that are inherent due to the design, this TV seems to minimize the more annoying ones and make for an overall solid mid-range TV. If you are looking for a moderately priced TV for movies and smart features that actually work, I would highly recommended this TV.

If you like Sony products, you won’t be disappointed. I have always bought Sony TVs because I like their picture quality. If you put any other TV with the same characteristics next to this TV, you will see that it has a superior picture quality. I only wish the remote control was better. Sometimes the remote control does not respond and you need to wait about 30 seconds for it to start functioning. Also, it is very difficult to use it in the browser. I had to change some picture settings to my personal liking and the picture quality is amazing. The sound quality is good. I would definitely recommend this TV.

This is a nice tv generally speaking, the picture is great and the sound is what you'd expect from such a thin display so definitely get a soundboard or something. The unit is a bit glitchy sometimes but that could be because it's a 2015 and still needs a couple more updates to stabilize performance. The 3d is not a 2d-3d up convert, it must receive a 3d signal to display proper 3d so be warned, but it does produce a nice 3d picture so far I've only demoed a couple ps3 games and they look pretty nice.

Ive always been a fan of Sony televisions, so I purchased this over the higher recommended Samsung/Vizio options out there. The picture is beautiful, it may however be a little dark for some in a bright room, as the tv is limited to how bright it can get, especially when comparing side by side next to the Vizio M series in store. The biggest issue I had was the remote control infrared sensor. Sony has placed this at the bottom center of the tv, and when using the stand, it sits 1.5 inches off whatever your tv is sitting on. If you put anything taller than this in front of the tv, i.e.. a sound bar, you will block the remote sensor. I found this out the hard way with my existing sony sound bar, and was forced to mount the tv to the wall. This was frustrating, having to purchase a mount, only to raise the tv an extra 2 inches, but necessary as no one makes a sound bar small enough to fit under the ir sensor. The internal speakers are not good sounding, but this is to be expected with such a thin tv.
Overall, I am happy with my purchase, this is hands down the best looking tv in its class, with an amazing picture, just a few issues to work around if you don't plan on mounting it.

If you're looking for a good or possibly even great 1080p TV this one fits the bill. Picture quality is great, Sports, Movies, Gaming or even regular TV also good. Great refresh rate 120 hertz. I just got a taste of 4k and had to upgrade and at 100 dollars more well worth it. But back to this TV. Its a great TV and well worth the money, but if you want better go with the 4k model.

This is an absolutely phenomenal television. The picture is absolutely gorgeous. The 3D looks great and you can use any RF active glasses with the TV (I have the xpand ones from best buy). My only complaint is the sound. The TV is so thin, that the sound is super underwhelming. I bought the $400 LG soundbar and sub combo which is just as perfect as the TV. If you have another $200, maybe go with the 4K version, but this one is a great purchase as well.

Overall, a great value at a good price especially if 3D picture quality is important. I purchased this Sony TV to replace a Vizio 50" 3D set that went kaput less than 2 yrs in service. The 'smart' TV features, built in Apps and 2D picture quality on the Sony Bravia are certainly worth the price of admission. But 3D is what makes this such a nice deal. 3D movies and games look outstanding. There's a catch though. The Sony doesn't come with 3D glasses. Not even 1 passive pair. (The Vizio came with 8)
And determining which type will work isn't too easy. The docs with the TV give you no clues. You have to go online. You'll find it lists multiple pairs you can use... From Sony of course. Includes their passive type for 10$ that Best Buy had... Didn't work with my set. The bottom line is, I had to purchase an active pair. They work great once you sync them up. However I didn't go with Sony's for 50$... Found an active pair that Samsung makes, Best Buy carries for 20$. Work great with my set.

Great TV, superb picture! Love the narrow picture frame around picture. Seems larger than actual size! Only nit is there is no RCA audio output connection, I didn't notice that when I read the specs, my bad, BUT Best Buy should bring that up to the customer, not everybody upgrades surround sound systems to keep up with latest connection technology. Yes I have an older Bose LifeStyle 5.

Good TV. No need to worry about the quality of the picture when we buy Sony. Perfect as always.
3D intensity is good.
Pros:
1. Picture quality
2. Android TV
3. Sound quality
4. Android apps can be easily installed through play store.
Cons:
1. No 3D glasses included. Bought from eBay 4 glasses for 80$.
2. No 2D to 3D conversion.

Considered a 4K TV purchase, but glad I bought this one. Perfect picture for a great price. I am a very loyal Sony customer, and this TV did not disappoint. Ultra thin design of the TV is an additional bonus. If you are looking for a high quality 50in TV, look no further.

I really like this TV. Picture is great sound is good set is handsome. Smart features are very nice. Early on I had some issues with the picture dimming during Netflix but that hasn't happened for a couple of months. Also once in a while (not often) there is a cracking noise when I change channels. Don't know what that is about but others have reported it as well. All else is is terrific. Glad I made this purchase.

Looking for a new HD TV when our old Samsung 55 power supply gave out (common problem on older Samsung flat screens). Looked at all the 55 in available, and settled on this 50 in. Why?
Excellent color, clarity, no edge bleed, don't need 4K-not enough content, number of HDMI ports and audio out, and finally price.
Seems everyone is after 55 and above and the screen real estate given the viewing room isn't worth the extra dollars for us. It's an Android "smart" TV; have had to do updates and all have gone without a hitch. We're unplugged from cable-500 channels and nothing on!, so we rely on the unit and a Roku. Has been perfect.
Sony's a name I trust and had several in the past. For "insurance" we purchased a Geek Squad warranty very inexpensively (deal going on), so we're "insured." Installed personally. Easy, peasy. Best price performance ratio for a top brand. You won't go wrong.

Nice picture quality but not good 3D T.V

I like the picture quality, it is very crisp. I am more or less fine with the T.V but not terribly happy for the following reasons,
1) I bought it because it was advertised as 3D, the recommended active 3D glasses model TDGBT500A was which is very hard to find it was out of stock almost everywhere. I finally got those but I was very disappointed with the 3D quality. The crosstalk is so much that it is impossible to watch 3D content. If I close one eye the 3D looks good but with both eyes open it is not watchable. I also tried samsung glasses which were much cheaper and easily available but exactly same result. I did change picture settings here and there but no luck, I am really disappointed by the 3d part of this T.V
2) The Netflix app is so shaky, if I turn of T.V with the App open and then turn on while the T.V tries to connect to wifi the Netflix app doesn't like it and most of the time goes to a state where you have to either restart the T.V or force stop the Netflix app, which is very annoying. Sometimes when you browse through the movies etc., it just freezes on one movie and you have to restart the T.V., I have all the softwares up to-date so not that I am missing some updates.
3) The price dropped by $100 within a month and bestbuy refused to price match or offer anything because I was not elite member.
Other than that the picture quality is very nice but I trusted Sony for 3D and it disappointed me, may be I should have gone with a cheaper brand.

My new Sony 3d television is great. The picture looks really great. I do wish it came with the 3d glasses, tv50w800c is tdg-bt500a(active) but besides that I love my new tv. As for the 3d glasses, the sales associate was really helpful and said that getting the active 3d glasses is better that getting the passive 3d glasses.

A few things first
1. This is in the family room and needed to have a sleek design first
2. I use my AV receiver and speakers for audio
3. I dip ont nor am I likely to ever use the 3D features
4. I generally use Apple TV for streaming
Looks great and has a very good picture. Good depth of color and - when set to live football mode - is good for sports.

I got the TV as AndroidTV was built in. I was disappointed that not all apps can be loaded, but now that HULU has been added I have the big three (Netflix, Amazon and Hulu).
The picture is good, though speakers are a little weak (as are almost all TVs) Has plenty of connections as needed.

Sometimes I try to change inputs to another HDMI port and I get a blank screen, it never changes. I have to shut the TV down completely to fix whatever is causing it. But, other than that, it's a very nice TV, has 3D, has a great picture, low latency so it's excellent for gamers.

This was our Christmas present to ourselves......this is our 3rd Sony TV.....no complaints! Last year we were gifted with a Sony Surround Sound System, and it synced nicely to the new tv! I shopped around for price, and Best Buy had the best price around! Love my 50 inch!
