This TV works great, but then when it goes to update it will be stuck in an endless update graphic for DAYS. They say it takes an hour but it seems to get stuck in an endless update loop and never progresses. During this time, you obviously can't use the TV which is bad since this is the TV in our main conference room.

Hi naveen, thank you for taking the time to write a review. Based on the specifications of this unit, 3D Glasses are optional accessories for this TV. We place a very high value on feedback from our customers because it allows us to continue to improve. Thanks again and have a wonderful day. Dave

I red mixed reviews about this TV before i purchase, after the purchase and un-boxing the TV then i appreciated myself for the great choice. i checked google cast, screen mirroring, voice search they are working perfect. I had samsung smart TV earlier that used to take little time 3 to 4 minutes to go to smart-hub (the apps) but this Sony TV is just right there right after power on. Its been told that this TV doesn't support Sling but it is supporting perfectly in fact better than my old one. Pros: Android perfect interface great apps, will increase in future I love the remote, little different than other TV remotes Everything just works Rich colors display Excellent contrast Great sound quality Cons: Initial setup time took close to 90 minutes to upgrade the latest version software version released on 08/25 Attaching the stand was little confusing but an intelligently built Touch-pad remote was not from the box we need to purchase separately No 3-D glasses are in the box need to purchase separately, of-course i barely use this functionality

Exchanged, 5 red blinks failure at 1 month old!!!

So my first one of this TV, brand new in factory sealed box, worked for one month then one night when I pressed the power button to watch TV the power light lit up blue for a second then began flashing red (5 flashes over and over) and it wouldn't do anything else. After unplugging the cord from the back of the TV twice made no difference I tried slowly turning it off and back on several times until the power light went back to being blue and the screen finally came on but it was full of tiny random magenta plaid patterns and the TV still didn't work, no sound, no nothing, although the power light was blue again and it did flicker like it knew when I pressed buttons on the remote. Once I got the blue power light and the lit up screen full of plaid I slowly power cycled the TV 2-3 more times and the screen finally started working properly and I could actually watch TV. It stayed working all night and worked again the next day but 2 days later it did the same 5 red flashes thing again. Every other night for a week this kept happening and the input source made no difference, obviously something wrong with that TV. Fortunately BestBuy had extended their returns policy for the holidays so the defective one got returned for a brand new replacement of the same model and I hope this one stays working for more than a month! Performance review: I'm not a fan of "Android" and I don't care about "Smart TV" gimmicks that'll likely be obsolete, incompatible, discontinued within 2-3 years but a 3D 1080p HDTV in this size range for the holiday sale price I paid and the fact that it's not some low end generic off-brand made this TV too tempting to pass up at the time I bought it. I spent time in the store watching it, playing with it, and comparing it to the picture quality of other brands before deciding to actually make this purchase. If it wasn't for the 1 month failure of the first one I'd be totally happy. I also find the menu system cumbersome to navigate as some things are in the Action menu, some are in the Help menu, and some are in the Home menu system, all of which navigate differently and have bits and pieces of the same types of settings in them so you end up having to hunt for similar settings in 3 different places with 3 different layouts. I can learn it but it's annoying that I will need to remember which menu has which settings in it compared to my old top model Samsung DLP 3D HDTV that was simple to navigate and operate compared to Sony. My comments about other negative reviews I read: Overall, the randomly changing brightness issue that some reviewers complained about really is a setting although I can't say which one... I quickly found it very annoying as dark scenes would suddenly go very dark then slightly less dark scenes would go back to normal brightness, sometimes every few seconds as people walked around the scene of a TV show. I basically turned off each automatic setting one by one until it finally stopped doing that and then spent a bit of time manually adjusting all the settings over the next few nights until I was happy with the picture. Not coming with 3D glasses, it says "3D Ready" (a.k.a. glasses not included) and "glasses not included" on the box! Sony sells a version of this same model of TV for a lot more money with 2 pairs of glasses included although BestBuy doesn't seem to stock that version. When it comes to "Active" 3D glasses there is no industry standard and the way they operate keeps evolving so when you buy a different (newer) 3D television chances are that you will need new 3D glasses for it even if they're the same brand. There are Infrared active glasses (the old method), Bluetooth active glasses (the current method), and passive type glasses (don't use batteries) and they're all proprietary to their different brands. This is not new news. It's been this way since 3D HDTV and 3D Blurays first officially launched during the 2010 Christmas season. There are a few exceptions like some Samsung/Mitsubishi Infrared Active glasses being interchangeable but that's not typical. The reviewers who complained about 3D glasses not working, I found a few issues myself and here's what I've learned. They must be the TDG-500A (A="Active", battery powered, not the P="Passive" models) for them to work. (I'm not sure about the TDG-400A version for this TV as I don't have that model of glasses.) PLUS I had turned the TV's Bluetooth setting off when I first got the TV since I don't care about pairing my smart phone to my TV and I didn't have any 3D glasses yet, and although the Bluetooth menu claimed the setting was turned back On when I switched it back and selected ON, the TV wouldn't actually turn the Bluetooth back on. Power cycling the TV after switching Bluetooth back on also made no difference. Eventually with Bluetooth showing as On in its' menu I also played with the "Serial Remote" settings which unexpectedly made the TV reboot itself when I switched that setting and when the TV came back on the 3D glasses sync'd almost immediately and started working. That's just your typical flaky Android BS but at least now I know it actually works and this TV's 3D actually looks pretty darn good. My last 3D TV, an old DLP set., had a beautiful picture and stunning 3D and other than the skinny Sony 3D glasses I'm satisfied with the overall quality of this TV's 3D performance once I got the Bluetooth working again. Had I never touched this TV's default Bluetooth On/Off setting it probably would've been much easier to get the 3D glasses working from the beginning... Having no interest in "Smart" features, a good 3D experience and good picture quality is what I was looking for to replace my old 1080p 3D DLP set (that I loved) and for what I paid I'm annoyed that the first one failed in 1 month but if the replacement one stays working for at least a few years then I'll be satisfied with this Sony. Time will tell...

Decent TV, but there must be better 3D than this

Out of the box it doesn't look terrific, but you can get good image quality out of this with some patient adjustment of the settings. Our TV came with some of those infamous brighter spots whenever the image is very dark, but they're vague enough that they're fairly easy to get ignore. We're using a receiver for audio so I can't comment on the quality of the speakers. If 3D isn't an important aspect to you, this is a good choice. The 3D was such a disappointment, though, that in our case if we'd known about it in advance we would never have bought this...and our bad luck, we didn't get around to buying glasses for it until past the return period. This is a 1080p TV that doesn't display 3D in 1080p. It acknowledges that's the signal it's receiving, but it removes every other line from the image and you're left with an image 540 lines high—the same vertical resolution as an anamorphic DVD, and without the smoothness of upconversion. There's a marked loss of detail, and onscreen text and any strong diagonal line appears very jagged. There is no indication of this anywhere in Sony's own descriptions or promotional material that we found, and we spent hours trying to troubleshoot the problem before finding out it really is the way it's supposed to look. It never would have occurred to me anyone would sell a 3D HDTV that doesn't show 3D in high def, and I'm not happy to have gotten one.
