Rich Images with occasional dark movies

Very happy with this TV upgrade. I was an early adopter with initial 1080p TV's back when my 40in LCD cost $2000, held out as long as I could, so glad I waited. I watch this TV in a dark room with primarily movies, using both streaming and a 4k player, with a full surround sound system. The full upgrade was expensive, but has revitalized my movie watching in a big way. Upscaling is very good, and streaming has been wonderful (HBO max rocks!). 4K movies thru my sony blu ray player has been a mixed bag of movie nirvana (Apocalypse Now) with some duds as well (Solo). Do your research, OLED suffers a bit more with darkness on some HDR movies. What happens is to maintain the dynamic range, bright parts of a movie can cause heavy dimming of the rest of the image. Well done 4k transfers/movies seem to maintain image balance, whereas others can get really dark. LED TV's tend to be brighter overall, and suffer less dimming due to HDR. However, this Sony OLED, can produce some fantastic black/color contrasts, like flames in the dark and light saber battles that will really blow your mind. Motion control looks natural and easy to control in the menu if you start to get a bit of judder. I was also very pleased to find no soap opera effect on this TV. I was used to playing around with color/brightness/contrast on my old LCD, but on this one I pretty much just set everything to Auto (cinema) and told the TV to adjust brightness based on light level in the room. Other than that, I don't mess with it too much except occasional motion control, default cinema is very good. I suppose you could get more out of this TV by calibrating in the custom settings, but you really need to know what you are doing, there are a lot of settings! I initially thought my 7ft viewing distance for 55in was pretty crazy (coming from a 40in), however I now realize that I could have even gone 65in. My other advice is to consider the sound upgrade in your budget. You may be better served to get a cheaper 65in LED TV with entry level full surround, than to buy the OLED and have a dated audio system (you want atmos, trust me). I thought I could use my old audio system, but ended upgrading all of that as well, and definitely went over budget. However, I am very pleased with my new system now that is all done. I really feel like I am at the movies now, the tech has gotten so good. I wasn't expecting the upgrade to be this good, I am pretty much blow away on a regular basis.

Replace an old Panasonic plasma in my living room. AND OH MY, OLED IS absolutely so much better. The picture on the A8H is so good. The color is vivid. The blacks are great. I do not have the words on just how great the picture is. Also the sound is very good for tv speakers. The build quality is excellent. I have a Samsung Q80T in my basement and OLED absolutely is better than QLED - NOT EVEN CLOSE. Absolutely THE SONY A8H is a great by if your looking at OLED Tv.

Great TV and outstanding color. Much better than my previous set (a 1st gen. LCD from 2010). Easy to set up and navigate through the various settings. Although I'm having trouble with the cable box. I'm not sure if its the box or TV (maybe need to set it up differently). I can eventually get the box to 'turn on'. Purchased new 4k HDMI cables and also have it hooked up to a 4k player and Apple + streaming box. TV does not have the latest HDMI standard (48GB), but that is for gamers and I didn't think I needed it for just watching TV. TV is on high end of pricing.

This is hands down the best tv I have ever owned. The picture is so crisp and clear, I can now see the proper colors on my HGTV shows! The true black of the oled makes a difference in the picture that never realized was a big deal compared to my other TVs. I chose the Sony because of the apps that are compatible (HBO Max) vs the LG. Set up is extremely easy, the only stressful part is not putting too much pressure on the screen itself so you don’t crack it. I would recommend this TV to anyone.

Incredible how dark the blacks get on this television! The contrast is really great too and viewing it from a side angle you dont lose any picture quality! I also purchased the sony wall mount for this that was very easy to install and made it flush with the wall yet you can angle it as well. Sony really is amazing, I have a top of the line digital camera from them too and they are really top quality products.

I've had an A8H for a few weeks now. Genuinely impressed. Calibrate it immediately. These settings worked really well for mine - https://www.avsforum.com/threads/2020-sony-bravia-a8h-oled-owners-thread-no-price-talk.3143518/ The first night, it was super contrasty - to the point of rough to look at. These settings made it very natural-looking. The depth of the images, the color, the excellent motion - all as good as I've ever seen. 4k upconversion seems quite good, too. I'm also pretty impressed with the audio from the screen itself. Some very cool tech happening there. Kinda cool hearing the sound coming directly from the screen rather than from behind or below it. The sound calibration bit is also fun. Smart functions are snappy and reasonably easy to work with, though a second, simpler remote would be nice. Overall, I'm super pleased and we're probably going to add another to the house before long. ONE COMPLAINT - it has a FIXED power cable, not an interchangeable one like my Samsungs have always had. This means you can't swap the cable for a lower profile plug variety and it gave me fits behind my super low profile wall mount. I'm going to install a recessed outlet to get around this, but I wish the power cable was interchangeable.

I've been doing my homework on what TV I should get and this is the one I decided to buy. Awesome picture quality, movies are a treat to watch and videogames also run smoothly on this TV. These ease of maneuvering through the menu and going from Netflix to YouTube is awesome. The only thing is that I would like to see Sony put some backlight on the remote to be able to see in dark rooms.

I do not write many reviews. But I am a Sony fan because how they handle colors. I do own the 65A9G current tv and am able to make direct comparisons. My older Sharp lcd stop working and looked for a 55” second replacement. We for regular broadcasting and the other for 55” sporting events typically. According to the reviews and my eyes conform that the colors seem crisper and slightly more accurate while viewing the same cable or off air sources then the 65”. The connections and software are almost identical to the big brother master series and almost the same features. Watching Netflix in Dolby Vision is amazing. It has HDR 10 for other sources. The speakers are not bad, but have needed to connect them to a sound bar. When Best Buy features them on sale, it is the best TV value for the money over matching LG and Samsung models. However, if your reading this, you already know the Sony models are not the cheapest in class. But in tv’s one gets what they pay for.

This TV does a really good job taking my non-4k cable feed and making it look great on the 4K screen. But where it really shines is with the true 4k content. I watched Godzilla vs. Kong on this, and it looked amazing. All the dark scenes with flashes of explosions show off the infinite contrast of the OLED. Very happy with the purchase. We have a relatively small room, so the 55" is perfectly sized. We also have not felt the need to add a soundbar. The sound, though clearly not the same as one would get form a sound bar or surround system is good enough for us. Having an Android phone sped up set up, though it didn't add all my passwords, so I still had to set up some accounts manually. Still 5 out of 5 for ease of use. One tip...get the "button mapper" app so you can make better use of the color buttons. You can preprogram 3 apps (or functions) per button with short press, long press, and double tap.

I bought this TV as an upgrade from a LG edgelit LED tv. I was expecting to notice some differences between the two but I was not expecting this. This OLED tv from Sony is truly how movies are meant to be watched. Main upgrades: Detail: The UHD makes a massive difference when watching content shot in 4k. Colors: I just watched Disney/pixar's Soul and you would not believe how bright and rich the colors are on this tv compared to a standard LEDLCD tv. Also, the skin tone and hair color representation is highly accurate, which is usually where a lot of LED tvs fail. Contrast: This is really where the OLED shines(pun not intended.) The deep blacks from the lack of a backlight make every part of any scene look so much more realistic and beautiful. Never again will I get distracted by noticing the backlight shine through the dark parts of a scene to try to brighten the tiny candle on the middle of the scene.

My main criteria for the purchase was picture quality as this TV replaces a top rated Samsung plasma that suddenly stopped working. My research led me to to this TV and the flagship Sony A9G. After some deliberation, I decided on the A8H because it was newer, uses the same technology as the A9G, the picture quality is at least as good and it was $400 cheaper. After purchase, I only had to wait a couple of working days for delivery. The delivery guys arrived wearing protective masks, were courteous, placed the TV in my bedroom and took away my old one. TV was easy to manage without help. I love the minimalist style. After owning it for a month, I must say I am impressed. The TV it replaced, a Samsung 51PNF8500 plasma had excellent picture quality and this TV is better. You have to use custom mode to get the best picture quality. In that mode with a couple of tweaks, the picture quality is compares favorably with my professionally calibrated Panasonic plasma and better in a three areas - slightly more detailed, better black level and much brighter. Customers who value excellent picture quality will be happy as I am with this purchase.

After a longtime of going back and forth on LED.. QLED and OLED... we settled with the A8H. Picture, Upscaling, Motion is outstanding, very natural colors.. easy on the eyes. The Sony X950h/Led is too bright at night even at min brightness, A8H is perfect, this again is my personal opinion, some like it super bright. Sound is very good with decent bass and Atmos effect drives my dog crazy at higher volumes. Burn-in was my #1 concern, we keep brightness low and watch varied content, only time will tell... Hooking to receiver and cable box took some fine tuning to setup HDMI pass through, all works as expected. The 2 day prime deal was too good to pass. Glad we got this set!

The tutorials on setting it up were very helpful. The screen is sensitive and could be damaged by my usual “bull-in-a-china-shop” approach. Get someone to help you pick it up from the floor! Once unboxed and placed the set up was very straight forward. We use DSL and over the air broadcast and get 188 channels of broadcast TV (we are near the broadcast towers of Mt. Wilson). The provided remote is the fastest and most flexible I have used. The voice recognition button was helpful. The sound coming from the part of the screen near the speaker is wonderful. The picture quality in our room was astounding. It did cost a fair amount of money but the overall quality was worth it. After we bought it the sale price dropped and Best Buy refunded the difference. Very “stand up” company.

This TV rocks! I replaced a 43” cheap TV with this and I couldn’t see myself going back. Also glad I didn’t spring for the 65” as I wouldn’t have been able to fit the box in my car :) Video quality is great and blacks are great as they actually are black and not some shade of dark grey like most non-OLED TVs. Inputs are plentiful and it supports ARC for my devices. Sound bar just works and even my PS4 is controllable via the remote! I mean it is Sony, but it is a nice touch! Movies look so well on it and are a pleasure to enjoy. I’ll admit, the motion of movies seems way off at first, but I did eventually get used to the odd unnatural movement movies seemed to have. There are some forums that point out how to mitigate this but I never really changed anything. It grew on me so I just got used to it. Definitely recommend if your willing to foot the bill. It isn’t cheap, but well worth it from my experience.

So on YouTube I've heard a couple people complain about motion on this TV. Actually I've only heard one person complained about motion That's right Q I'm talking to you. I love this TV I think the color is brilliant I think the motion is superior and it's an OLED. This is my first OLED and I love it I spent quite some time and that's why I'm looking at TVs and comparing stats. this is the one I chose and I am not disappointed by any means I did buy the 5-year warranty because Best buy unlike other places covers burn in. Comparing to a few other sets the input lag isn't as low on paper but I do play competitive call of duty and war zone and my KD ratio is still positive and I'm still winning in war zone so I don't think the input lag is that bad and I don't notice it at all. Great TV and I highly recommend it to anybody looking to upgrade to OLED. And yes the Series X and PS5 look great!

I love this TV. This was my first premium tv purchase and I do not regret it. The colors are amazing. The black color is true black. The image is very smooth because of the x processor. I would recommend this TV for anyone looking to buy a TV that's not in the budget tier. Although it isn't the highest tier of TV, it is still great. The model from Sony that is a tier higher than this one has a better built in tv speaker and is slightly brighter. I have a home theatre, so I didn't need the better built in speakers and my room is always dark so I didn't really need the image to be brighter. The image on this TV is already too bright for me at the highest. If you're looking for a high quality OLED tv and you are not placing it in a very brightly lit sunny room, I would definitely recommend this TV for you.

Got this TV for a great deal with $1k off the price and it was an upgrade from my 7 year old samsung 1080p hdtv. Watching 4k movies and playing my PS5 looks beautiful. Setting up the TV was very user friendly with how package was designed to help you assemble with using the box it came in to put the legs in place. You would still need a 2nd person to hold 1 end of the tv in place to place the other leg in. Assembly time was about 25 mins putting it on my entertainment system and hooked up all cables. Powering on the TV for the 1st time you get presented with visual demo which was actually pretty awesome. Going through the tv set up and update was pretty easy which took about 10 mins. Overall time to get it up and running was a out 35 mins. Sound on the tv is actually not bad and ran with it til i found a 5.1.2 set up. Worth the price and will be enjoying this tv for years.
