Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed.This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Previous to the A90J TV purchase I have enjoyed the Sony STR-ZA810ES Audio Visual Receiver hooked up to another brand flatscreen. Even though my older TV said it had eARC offering universal remote it was spotty, hit-and-miss. ARC -- signals passed to the components via the HDMI cables was a desired feature. Because I had the Sony AVR it made sense to buy Sony for my TV. It took a learning curve to get the AVR properly linked with the 55 inch A90J. I had no sound from the TV with HDMI when it was playing! I could only get sound with TOSLINK cable. I knew an optical cable connection defeats Dolby audio features. I dusted off an old BluRay DVD and played that and wow, the audio was superb! The disc is true Dolby signal. I learned later that A90J Sony turns off the TOSLINK connection when it senses a Dolby signal and the HDMI works as expected. Even when using a streaming service, such as Netflix, unless you are paying for a premium monthly subscription, you don't have Dolby. The universal remote feature does work and runs the TV sound to switch to Amp/external, switching streaming box back to TV antennae signal. The Sony TV is a SMART in that Google-TV is the OS. My preference is Android-TV and that is only because the latter uses Google Play-Store -- more apps available including foreign-language news apps, games, etc. Besides, my streaming box is the Nvidia Shield and it enhances the picture on the Sony TV a small bit because the streaming box upscales if it can. I'll let the other reviews rave about the picture. I like it too. I like that I bought a Sony appliance that works great with Sony AVR and other brand products.

Compared to the LG CX this tv does a great job handling darker scenes without black crush. A very nice upgrade from the CX. However priced at nearly 3k, is it double as good as the CX that comes in at half the price. No, certainly not. But if you are a film buff and want crisp deep blacks and vivid deep colors in HDR this set is fantastic. TV DOES NOT yet support ALLM OR Vrr. There is some sort of firmware bug with eARC and LPCM 5.1 surround playback. Front audio plays in the rear and vice versa. Can be worked around turning eARC off but on a set this expensive and considered “Master series” this bug should have been worked out before release. Sony support is also very very lackluster. It taken about 9 contact attempts to Sony to even get some attention drawn to the matter. Would have been nice to have dedicated support for the Master Series products.

My wife and I was looking for a new tv since our tv at our apartment was small. Sadly the day of the purchase of my Sony tv my old tv broke down (it was meant to be!). I love the color, sound. The only sad thing I’ll say is I wish I had the 65 inch instead of 55 but I couldn’t say no to such a great deal I had on this one. I recommend this tv if you guys don’t have a good smart tv!

We had to have our 1st service call on it and when they said they couldn’t fix it I almost cried. I didn’t think we would find a replacement as good but when I called the replacement center, they matched this tv to ours and I am certainly NOT disappointed! The picture is better, the sound is much better, almost everything is better except one thing. We can no longer turn our tv on directly with our comcast remote! It turns the tv on but then we have to push the TV button on the Sony remote to get the television to come on. That is an extra step that we should NOT have to take. I don’t know if it is a setting that was not enabled when the Geek Squad set the tv up or if that is the way this tv is but I have not had the time to call in yet to see. We normally do not use the Sony remote in our daily use so that is why it is is an issue. I would rather not have to always have it on top of the table and just use our cable remotes. Hubby has his and I have mine, lol. Besides that, I don’t think you could get a better tv! One negative comment on the design is the feet, they could have designed them better then they are. They look terrible and cheap. We don’t use the tv for gaming, it is just a home tv but it is on most of the day. I really don't think there is a better tv on the market! I wish we had room for the larger 65”!

For your issue, depending on the TV settings, the Home screen will be displayed when the TV is turned on. If you change the following setting, you can change the screen that is displayed when the TV is turned on to the TV broadcast channel or external input such as HDMI that you were watching before turning off the TV.
1. Press the settings (gear) button on the remote control.
2. Select [Power on behavior], and then select [Last input].
The next time the TV is turned on, the TV broadcast channel or external input such as HDMI that you were watching before turning off the TV will be displayed.
